    I agree with you...when I bought my mk2 it had no thermostat.when I drive more 140 during summer it was overheating.now I put thermostat I got no problems at all

    Here is were you definitely need a genuine vw part or a very good replacement part. I have seen too many "pirate" parts not opening properly. They dont open big enough and dont stay open long enough and eventually they just dont open.

      Yes true exactly..and it messes around with the balance needed in the cooling system to maintain that constant temperature.It has to open up and close at right times because you also have your thermoswitch on the fan that gets affected , which has to activate the fan at a certain degrees Celsius,I have a genuine thermostat now for a very long time and I'm too scared to replace it because of the very point you made.while mine is working perfectly,I'm not changing it yet.

      @@pjs-golfmk1-diy I replaced mine as part of 150k service but luckily I kept the genuine part. The replacement part did not last and when tested against the original did not open big enough. This part I will only by VW original. We actually have no idea how many times it opens & closes while we driving, every time the engine coolent gets to 85deg it swaps the coolent with the coolent in the radiator and repeats the cycle. (open and close every 85deg celsius) It is basically a coolent exchange happening between the engine and radiator. In cars with Electronic Chokes this is a big problem because the engine never reaches the 85deg for the ECU to switch of the Automatic Choke off so the car becomes very heavy on fuel never reaching operating temp. Only time the thermostat removal might be warranted is being stuck in summer traffic for 2hours a day, but then again the whole system can become over heated if the fan does not kick in on time. That is why I rather pay the extra money and get a genuine VW thermostat there just is no other sensible alternative. Thanks for all your great videos. God bless🙏

      @@philliplabuschagne5508 I fully agree with you ,people don't realise importance of this little part ,and yes there are extreme cases where one has to remove the thermostat in cases of emergency ... thanks for this informative input...

    I will buy it next month when we rebuild the engine, what about the direct connection of the fan, how can i solve it

      You must make it work automatic. Put in proper thermoswitch

    I have a thermostat in, but I suspect it's stuck in the "open" position, my car take long to warm up in the morning, coolant is full and no leaks, G12 in system, but I suppose it's better being stuck open than closed.

      Yes better stuck open than closed....IF Your heater is not blowing very hot ,then that's also a sign thermo could be stuck open

      @@pjs-golfmk1-diy I have a new spec mk1, the flaps to route hot air to demister is not working, it just stopped one day and I don't know what to check, any idea, I have hot air via face and legs setting only.

      @@pjs-golfmk1-diy one day it was working and then it stopped, by that u mean switch over with the knob, I do t know if it's controlled electronic or with vacuum?

    I got that problem in the morning my car takes 10minutes to heat up I had a problem with my fan not going on

      Best to take that thermo out for inspection..maybe not closing when it should

      No not actually..but have a look at my vid on doing a "coolant flush"..,That's where I show how to remove the thermostat..It's quite simple actually..just remove the two 10mm bolts from the housing under the pump.,and you will see the thermostat.
