Toyota says that if your Tacoma is a 4WD you should engage your 4WD system at least once per month, even when the 4WD system isn’t needed. This being said, engage your 4WD into High 4WD on a flat straight road under 60mph for 1-3 miles and then disengage your 4WD system back into 2WD. We usually get snow in November and stays until April, so my 23 TRD Off Road is normally in 4WD during those months. When off roading in the summer I’ll usually go back and forth between 2WD and 4WD depending on the terrain. If I’m waiting for the deep snow to melt in the mountains and I’m running around on lower elevations, once a month I’ll still put my truck into 4WD on the highway, as long as I’m going under 60mph.
From my understanding a little turbo type wine from 529s is totally normal. Gear noise, being grinding, ruff, clunky is Not. I'm about to do my 500 oil change on my 529 and trying to get scheduled for the tune. I went above and beyond break in with 7 ten minute drive and 20 minutes stop. Dropped oil after 2 nd run and excited to see oil condition and get tuned. Thanks for your video and recommendations.
Thx for the update. Glad you’re enjoying your re-gear! I’ve been reading up on it. Seems to be a lot of differing opinions on 5.29 vs 4.88 for a MT Taco. I’m a little apprehensive about how fast I’d be shifting through the lower gears with 5.29’s. Every time I get on a supercharger kick I talk myself out of the idea. Especially with what I imagine a re-gear and tune would do for the truck. I just feel any forced induction will put more wear and tear on the engine. Kinda goes against why I love Toyota in the first place. Never say never tho.. lol. From the little research I have done I feel like I would go with the ProCharger over the Mag. I think the power distribution would fit my needs better. More balanced through the power band from what I’ve read. th-cam.com/video/Cc1FNwuk72w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ynW_Re80OhVsQ0cp
Hey WCT, fellow North County/Vista neighbor. I've been thinking about regearing my taco also. I got the OTT tune a little over a year ago and that made a huge difference. We will be getting a Teardrop trailer soon so I'm thinking we'll need the 5.29's. I looked through your past videos and didn't see where you talked about getting the regear from East Cost Gear supply instead of having it done locally. Would love to hear the reasons why you went that direction. Thanks!
@@michaelgroeger1749 hey Michael, below is a link to the install video where I discuss why I went the route I did. Jason recommended ordering the 3rd members from ECGS which is what I did, and then he did the install in Vista. Hope this helps! We will have to meet up sometime 🤙🏼! Let me know if there are any other questions on this. th-cam.com/video/JZqtXu8KT0w/w-d-xo.htmlsi=oyHlqVWLCUN62sF-
Thank you. I did watch that video but I guess I missed that. I have looked into getting the 5.29’s installed and it was going to run me around the $3500 range. Was your install in that ball park? Would love to meet up and compare builds
my guy, did you share your invoice? the number of gear options from ECGS is killing me lol, I'll probably contact them directly but curious as to what you went with specifically.

I get a whine/hum only when I coast around 60-70mph then disappears as it slows, got 5.29 revolution brand.
What engine rpm are you running at 70mph and what's your tire size?

Yeah pretty close to $3,500.00 after it was all said and done 👍🏼🤙🏼

Hey, after a couple of months, how are you doing with the 5.23 Gear? Did you like it? How is shifting now?
I installed 5.29s and my taco is pretty built. So in the last 2 yrs my u joints have taken a toll.
@@blackinya oh I bet… mine is pretty much stock when it comes to being built.. so I don’t foresee my u-joints taking as much of a beating as quickly.
5.29s on tires that small? I use to have a truck on 40s with 5.13s and that felt like a bit much for highway use but on the trail it felt rite.
@@claytonhanika1992 the tune is what brings in the balance.. without it I think the truck would feel over geared..👍🏼
Yeah a supercharger would be awesome!
I put a m90 on a 3vze it's holding perfect too with some tunning
Man how do you do this I got 4.88s and run 8 psi throught a 3rd gen m90 and I never blew a diff I built the stock ones I did in a bunch
Edit I thought you broke them
I want him to work on my truck how can I contact him ???
