Every time bill blows up at his son, he is destroying his relationship with him. I can understand and bet that Zach has gone his whole life saying, “yea it’s my fault, sorry.” He is just mean all the time.
Honestly I find both the crew AND Wild Bill responsible for the mistake. No one noticed the problem or took action if they did, and the captain should've had that added to his checklist to make sure himself, especially if it's a potential safety issue.
Came to say this. Hey Bill, if it is so potentially dangerous, how do you not have a checklist before leaving the dock? You're the captain, Captain. Pretty pathetic blaming the crew. The crew is a bunch of dunderheads. You can tell that just at a glance. You assume they have an attention to detail?
yip, it should have felt obvious just from feeling the boats handling, i suppose thats one of the downfalls of autopilot, still shouldve noticed the boat rolling more than usual.. rip nick, man you were one hell of a great worker and problem solver
I'm a shift supervisor. I have to watch over 27 machines and 10 people who run 3 each on top of the entire floor aswel. If I make sure the operators got all 1104 positions per machine running correctly, that the bottom rail of each machine is aligned, that all the material being fed is clean, etc, by the time I reach machine 27, half the other side of the floor is stopped from other bigger issues. I expect my workers to do their job and take care of their machines, if they don't, they get fired. Same thing here, except not only does the sailor risk getting fired but also dying. With stakes that high, ANYONE would assume a fishermen would do their job correctly, specially when the captain has other things to check aswel.
The captain don’t go down into the crab tanks daily. That’s why he has an engineer on board. Captain sees a problem, crew fixes it. Get ‘em bill.. nick was a real one
Bro I see you always commenting the same type of talk on different videos about how “the captains always right” and “it costs them money” like what do you know William. It’s easy to be the boss from the comfort of your couch .
The Captain isn't responsible for things like checking the tank. I know people are upset with Bill, but this is one of the many reasons the crew are paid so much. Bill is going to where the crab are and focused on weather, tides, and regulations.
Bill its your ship you need to make sure everything is good to go. Any captain would have noticed the pumps were not on cause they would've checked. Thats what makes a good boss/captain
@@Flowbot good for you man! Hope it all works out for you. Still fault lays on the captain. It is his ship his responsibility. He needs to make sure it's 100% before they sail. But its also tv so I'm sure theirs stuff setup for that too
Maybe a baffle down the middle of the tank. Then it would stop the ship from listing so much plus having the baffle down the middle wouldnt effect the crabs to much.
I would love to try and work a crab boat. Admittedly i know nothing about it and wouldnt act as if i knew anything but there are few to no physical task ive been shown and didnt do well once i got into the swing of things. Well, start making some contacts down in Dutch Harbor via Google. Save enough money to get the amount of gear, then book a 1 way Ticket to what ever airport is closest to Dutch Harbor and God's speed to you and boat your on that u will have a successful voyage.
What B/S. For Cryin Out Loud this is 2023. Big Bill ought to rig a simple control panel with a lighted warning system where he is in constant communication with the systematics and the condition of his ship at all times right from his cabin... If nothing else install an automated system.
Everyone here in the comment section is talking about Captain Wild Bill and some sort of checklist. Is it possible the checklist you're referring to is the ice cream and junk food checklist?
The Captain is responsible for the boat but the crew is responsible too. The Captain should have a checklist but depending on the amount of experience each crew member has and years of service on that boat they should also run their own checks too without having to be told. If they did check then why wasn't anything said or done before it was noticed last minute?
It's baffling how these experienced people didn't check these things. No, it's not the captains fault that the crew failed to do the checks they're expected to do.
The engineer should have turned them on and should NOT have made that mistake. Thats dangerous. Wild bill should have noticed as well but what is the boats mechanic playing at
Honestly if it's super important the captain should double check this or remind ppl even tho there to remember but the captain is the final say so that's on that bill dude not his crew
I hear them say several things are the main cause of the boat going down all the time. Slack tanks, ice, pots stacked wrong... so which is it? not everything is the main cause.
Uhhh Well Captain if you wouldn’t have rushed away from town mainly because your crew wanted to watch football, you would have done the proper checks before setting sail.
Shouldn’t the captain know everything that goes on with his boat. The crew not doing something is one thing but this is something the captain should have caught before they even left
Captains fault not double checking and or everyones fault eother way its his and how did you leave and not notice your bow was riding 15 feet higher then normal. You should notice that as captain plain and simple. You couldve saved you a day or two of sailing if you just noticed your bow is rideing high .
In case nobody has realized this, if your still around and fishing, God’s hand is upon you. But, if you have become arrogant, cruel and brow beating, in your ways….you might find he’ll turn his back on you and you won’t be smiling or fishing anymore😐 You’ll be handed over and subjected to the Beast and his ways😞❤️🙏

Captain is responsible for the whole boat. If it's that important it should also be a part of his checklist.
True. That’s why his crew is content to slack off. It’s always someone else’s responsibility and problem
