Hey Mark, best nugget you have ever dropped is that Miller Knot. Best knot ever, have only had one error and that was the line not the knot once changing over to it two years ago.
BIG WORM FISHIN!!! dawg days of summer! What rod, reel, worm, hook, weight. Let’s hear it! Love these vids MDJ!!! Can’t wait to see you smash this year 🫡
Thanks for highlighting this commonly used technique by crappie anglers. Always catching bass while crappie fishing at Berryessa using this technique. #yayarea
7’4 ML FX CUSTOM Rod with Lew’s Hypermag, Cast Fishing Co 3.5” Echo and I made it do what it do this weekend. As an avid crappie fisherman, this technique was made for me.
Great video, thanks! Are you able to make a video or series on map study for the time of season? Why would you pull your boat up to said spot vs something that looks similar on the opposite bank? Eliminating water fast!!
I've been playing around with this on my homes lakes Toledo and Rayburn... It's slowly but surely turning into something I've got a ton of confidence in. Great video as always keepem coming brother!!!
GOOD LUCK THIS YEAR.....I'm going to try this from the back of the boat this year, I've been seeing it alot more and now the chore for me is find out what works for me
Yes the old school technique is defined as righting my friend. I would say this is more tightlining than a Damiki rig which is more of a straight down vertical presentation. I live close to South Holston and Cherokee so know them all well Brother
That is the biggest advantage to FF Sonar. Being able to see how the fush react to your lure and presentation. Something we never had, unless you were jigging, or working your lure directly in the cone of your 2D or Di sonar
I had success this weekend on the freeloader and 1/4 oz ballhead. Do you use a loop knot? I lost a good one when the loop slipped out of the line tie using 10# fluoro.
I love this bait , it's became my fav. I'm stuck on the bank fishing an fish it kind of like a worm with more success . I've tried the other technique not much success but I keep trying !
I started doing this using a Berkley Flatnose minnow, after watching an ott Defoe video from 2 years ago on what he called ‘tightlining’ his description of tightlining was not what everyone else’s was, it was exactly this. Skate the rocks or the bottom, slow steady wind and shimmy the rod tip. It doesn’t get much better than that. I’ve been hammering fish in water down to 32.5 degrees without any sonar with that freeloader and it crushes them on super light jigheads. I’ve learned you can slow down the entire presentation with that freeloader specifically due to its design, by going to a superlight Jighead and man that thing just gets em. I fish it on straight mono too. And I’m more of a big river guy. I find the mono slows the baits action down and makes it less erratic and more subtle and that seems to get more bites so far especially in frigid water. I find I still get the same actions out of the bait, but it’s just subdued by the mono and that’s what they want most times in the cold. Just a thought if you read this.
My favorite baits have always NOT been Yamamoto, but somehow or another I came across a bag of 3" Zakos. Those on an 1/8 oz. head, 8 lb line seems to be the most effective bait for me lately by far (for fish less than 20 feet deep)...and in Yamamoto fashion, you're lucky to get 1 fish per. 😏 The light tip is a MUST!
😂 saw it lol 😂 I was using this technique this morning with the Crush City Mayor fishing from the bank, landed 4, not the size I was looking for but I’ll take it, especially with the temps here in Texas
the key is the FFS: if you see your lure, see the fish and see your lure IN RELATION to the fish, on the sonar, at that point, there are probably a good hundred or so plastics that might entice that fish to bite. We often end up with the ones we are most comfortable with (confidence bait) and if the Freeloader is that one for you , then fine, but as I said, it is all about the FFS.
Got one my top largemouth on a similar rig over the summer little crappie rig fishing for yellow perch ended up being an almost 4lb bass 😂 also it was the most quiet subtle entry right off the bank from the kayak, I can almost hear it now lol
Hey Mark, your from California, remember back in the late 80’s , Don Iovino had a technique called doodle sliding, it was basically the same only with brass and glass and a four inch worm !!! 😎
The one I think that’s gonna blow this is BR head. Basically a glide bait jig head. Drop it strand off the side of the boat and get that side to side glide action or do this
I was very confused with all the talk and names for this technique. I simplified it to and straight tail minnow style bait on a 90 degree jig head. Bottom strolling is heavier weight jigs maintaining bottom contact, mid strolling is middle weighted jig heads focusing on the middle of the water column, and hover strolling is super light weight jig heads or weightless. I don't have FFS but I plan on throwing this in all my spots and still catching them.
I’m pretty dialed in this technique for crappie on my lake. Never heard of anyone doing it for bass…then again I’ve never asked. Also I rarely see anything that I’d say is a bass on the screen when I’m fishing this way for crappie.
Nd I can't wait for them to restrict the amount of touneys FFS is allowed in. And only allow 3 or so events out the year where theyre allowwd to use it. Like how they were allowed to flogg for brownies.
Not the hottest technique just new to the newbies, it's always been hot ever since HOOT GIBSON fished these in the 90's very old school Cody Bird can vouch for learning this from Hoot
The line stands out better using FFS. Anything they can do to make it easier for them video game fisherman. Restrict FFS and get back to real bass fishing
Not sure why this technique so special? people doing this for crappies for decades, all you do is just up the size of the bait for bass fishing that's all to it, why do people act like they just have a "Ureka", i just laugh people calling the hottest newest technique 🤣
It's not new, nor did he claim it was new. He said it's taking the fishing world by storm, as in more people are using it now. The video is meant to teach people getting into fishing, who this technique would infact be new to. Erase this comment and go to bed boomer.

Just love how you try to explain everything in simple terms. Great explanation of this technique!

Excellent info Mark keep doin what you’re doin and good luck this year!
You are so informative. I used it with an under spin and smashed em.
Great video Mark, love your content an have been a Subsriber for 2 years now. Love watching you 4 doing the Pong with the Solo Cup's. ❤
Thanks for the knowledge, any recommendations for a little more affordable rod and reel setup for the average weekend type guys?
Check out the Sick Stik and Balance lineup
great video , I request you do a finesss Jig set up!
I mainly fish Smith Mountain Lake here in SWVA where the Heavy Hitters is next year
would you use a loop knot for more movement with this technique in a different situation or is that unnecessary?
I started doing this using a Berkley Flatnose minnow, after watching an ott Defoe video from 2 years ago on what he called ‘tightlining’ his description of tightlining was not what everyone else’s was, it was exactly this. How do you like your new age cabinets?
Is there a weedless version to fish deep ledges or brushpiles?
My power pro has never let me down . It’s expensive enough don’t need Jdm line it’s all made overseas anyway lol. Much love mark ❤

That and a Slider worm were lights out for me on Camanche back in the day
Seaguar PE x8 grandmax ... available on Amazon right now.
I seem to have missed the unintended pun regarding his favorite spinning rod and reel combo
why the spinning rod and not a BFS style baitcaster ?
It's crazy I was just using fluke with a nlbn jig head and it looks almost the same and I was catching bass on it
Yes sir!
For anyone hunting Smallies - 8lb mono is all you need. You only need the cheap stuff, use your money on other things.
Back in the day it was grubbin'.
The one I think that’s gonna blow this is BR head. Basically a glide bait jig head. Drop it strand off the side of the boat and get that side to side glide action or do this

How about a drop shot set up? Explain leader length choices and bait choices for different scenarios.
Already up on my channel 👍🏾
How do you tie this rig, brother
Loop knot or Miller knot
You rocked it Mark !!!!!!! Just be careful Randy B may start stabbing ya in the back because you referred to FFS !!!!!
Mark did you get a Crush City sponsorship this year?
No sir
Saltwater guys and Japanese been using this for years. Using Sonar is cheating.
I’m pretty dialed in this technique for crappie on my lake. Never heard of anyone doing it for bass…then again I’ve never asked. Also I rarely see anything that I’d say is a bass on the screen when I’m fishing this way for crappie.
Can you do a Tokyo rig episode?
Here after your boy DC winning
Is that a clear braid ?
Multi colored
We need your Ball And Chain set up
His is usually 1/2oz with 15 pound flouro.
It's called "Minnow Doodling" or, as DC would say, MINNER DOODLIN'
MDJ! What crankbait and color would you throw on Cherokee in mid March?
I’m not MDJ but I would say something red because that’s a really good prespawn color and smallies on Cherokee will eat it
@@Mg0936 thanks buddy
Just depends on water clarity but definitely a fan of the 🦞 this time of year
These guys are all just walleye fishing for bass now and they think they reninvented the wheel 😂😂
Use a demilitarized rig as the weight for a drop shot. You have twice the chance to catch a fish. Or a Ned rig.
50% of the time, it works every time.
Damiki rig been out for a min.
💪🏾💪🏾💯
👍
Deep diving jerkbait setup for us up north lol

Nice rig shame professionals need more sonar to pretty much bed fish! Aggravate Catchers is what they have turned it into.
You not with Googan anymore?
Rob who is one of the owners of Googan mentioned in an interview that they’re dropping the pros
No sir
Soon as they dropped Dustin he won the next tourney!
Do you know why academy don’t carry crush city.
No clue
They do!!! Just all the good colors are always gone!
Why are cameras still against the rules?
Thanks Mark!
