Here's what I don't understand about the wigs and lacefronts is why young women are wearing them., When I was young wigs were for older women and young women wore their own hair for the most part
Amazing video. 100% truth! Straight wigs and weaves are an epidemic amongst black women worldwide but when I left the Caribbean to the USA, it shocked me how much that rings true. 9 times out of 10 when I run into a black woman, she is wearing a straight weave with adult hairs glued to her foreheads. Even yesterday I saw 3 black women back to back, with the same exact wig, I couldn't tell them apart. The same wigs, makeup and hair makes black women look like clones. The USA in a major city, the wig apocalypse is on another level. But the advantage of being the few natural hair people in the sea of wigs is unique, I stand out. I don't give straight hair races an ego boost. I feel so pretty,❤ The worst thing about this topic is black women who wear weaves don't want to talk about it, they make excuses that are so contradictory (for example one woman said "it's because of slavery and the standard of beauty so leave black women alone let them wear what they want"...so I should let black women continue to conform to the standard of beauty not meant for them? To even begin this conversation on the grass roots level is almost impossible. Wig wearing black women don't want to hear it. It's almost impossible. The brainwashing is solid.
I'm finally truly embracing my hair as it is. The fact the our hair isn't portrayed as glamourous in media a a huge problem. We have to be the ones to do it. No one will do it for us but us. The anti-blk black people make me sick to my stomach.
i love love love this video and i’m so heartbroken i get made fun of in my own household i’ve been forced to wear relaxers for a good decade i just stopped last year cuz my mom saw the formaldehyde reports but i think my burnt scalp should’ve been a sign she let me wear 3 protective hairstyles to grow it out i still have some left but now i’m on keratin and all i wan is my natural hair but she says it’s unprofessional and it’s ugly 😢
My mom did the same thing. She told me my hair would fall out of if I stopped relaxing it. She even bought me a relaxer after I told her I was going natural. I refused and then she would not let me wear it out I could only wear my hair in braids to hide my hair. Now I’m 17 and I have been wearing my hair out for the past two years
It's not unprofessional & it's not ugly. I'm not black but I love natural black hair & I wish more black women would embrace their natural hair journey.
We have to learn not to love our oppressors so much. It is the people that determine the culture, if we collectively said no to all that there would be change. Say no to wigs, weaves and relaxing.
When my hair is pressed, i get next to no compliments. Which is fine, i do it for me, but when my curls are out and fluffed to the heavens, i get compliments NONSTOP. God knew what he was doing. ❤ Also my husband drools over my curls which is a plus.😊
