Be it metaphorically, literally, historically, biblically, etc.; there are a lot of references to stones of various sizes being a handicap, a trap, a punishment, a marker, a statement, and soforth. Yet the stone itself feels nothing for its use or abuse to the benefit or detriment of others. They just exist.

January 12th, 2021... The end of an era.
In some ways it's almost like losing Tarja all over again. How will they ever move forward without such a great male vocalist? I mean, what drew me to Nightwish in the first place wasn't Tarja, it was the back and forth Tarja & Marco had together. Marco had some incredible songs he carried during the Annette years. Then with Floor, he had someone worthy of Tarja's spot to work with again, and now he's gone.
@@RicoLen1 Sadly, if the last album was anything to view the future of NW by, Marco will hardly be musically and vocally missed. Whether Marco stood back intentionally, or Tuomas has a new Troy to play with (sorry, pun *was* intentional) or what, who knows and it doesn't matter, all things are done. All things pass :(

Speaking of "Northern Kings", have you heard any of their songs? Northern Kings is a group of four great male finnish metal singers(including Marco) that have done metal cover songs of some really famous songs like Brothers In Arms from Dire Straits, Take On Me from A-ha and We Don't Need Another Hero from Bonnie Tyler. They made 1 album about ten years ago, and it's pretty great.
Hietala is a giant music hero.

He had a throat surgery in the nineties which damaged his voice. He sings beautifully now but he was even better back then. Amazing voice, amazing showman.
I would say Marco's singing ability is on par with what Christopher Lee's was.
Christopher Lee actually did a metal album under the name Charlemagne. I would recommend giving it a listen as well

phillippi2 Slight correction: Christopher Lee did TWO albums with Charlemagne. He also did numerous guest spots as a narrator and occasional singer with Rhapsody of Fire, including a posthumous appearance on their newest album.

(Edit:I' m always couple of months to a year behind on new albums) I did all my plant chores (more than 100 plants) daily anf even with corona and earthquakes and volcanos, this song gave me some ground, a stone. Thank you, Marko, for all you've done done for the metal industry, take care and see you when you want to be seen!
When the bassist and backing vocals guy of a worldwide renowned band shows of his skills on leadvocals and guitar. Gird your loins Emppu and Floor! No offense, I love both of them, can't wait for the next Nightwish album. But since Century Child, Marco is the true star in the band for me, and his latest publications support this.
