That button is called a killswitch, and like Dale mentioned below, it cuts the signal from the guitar. So Bucket head just basically does hammer ons with his left hand and uses the killswitch to make the rhythm. He's also using a 2 octave volume pedal, which is how he's able to get such wild pitch changes. He also has HUGE hands, which is how he can play some of those really crazy arpeggios and tough reaches.
Had no idea he existed. Went to see Primus here in Denver for the Family Values tour. way back in 2001 Made our way to the wall in front of the stage. Primus rolls out on stage, and Claypool introduces their special guest....Buckethead. I was blown away. Wish he still toured. He's one of the few performers I'll still go watch.
Buckethead was my first concert when I was 16. Just a dude on the stage playing the most epic guitar to a backing track of drumming on his mp3 player. So wierd to see one of the best guitarists of all time just solo. With only 20 people in the venue.
Who ever request this song reaction is genius, thanks! BH played with Guns n Roses before. He also collaborate with other band/artist too if not mistaken.
its only the pike serie...then you have all the ather albums...own solo album not named pike...albums with praxis...album with viggo mortensen...album with colma....its a lot of albums.
Its sad how Buckethead is still underground but I know that's where he's most comfortable literally one of the most godlike musicians I've ever watched
Actually he have released over 700 albums, its crazy. I am discovering this wonderful person music since over two years, it never stops to surprise me, he is the best.
Brian Carroll aka Buckethead besides GNR, played with Les Claypool of Primus and his other band, Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains and Praxis. My favorite song by Buckethead is Machete.
Please more buckethead!! Gory head stump is one of my favourites!! Btw buckethead is a solist, he played for guns n roses but quit (they didnt deserve him)
Buckethead was in many bands his first band was called the deli creeps and the most famous one he was in is guns n roses. Buckethead is one of the 2 best guitarists in the world. He plays all across america i think But i dont know for certain cause im not from america
Had a great time taking my then teenage son to see Buckethead at the Lincoln Theater in Raleigh, NC. Believe it or not he wasn't really the weirdest performer on the card that night. That went to the musician who goes by the name "That 1 Guy". A great show and a match made in heaven.
He does small venues all the time. I met ...well I walked next to him and waved at The Majestic near Detroit. He bowed his head all dramatic and comical, like you'd imagine an olde tyme knight. 🤣 I also met his opening act *That 1 Guy" (he's definitely worthy of a reaction!) in the alley. We asked if he needed help, but he didn't.
I remember back in the day discovering this song and artist on Guitar Hero of all places lol I was like who the flippin' biscuits is this guy!? Lol Guy is so ridiculously talented on guitar and is definitely one of the best if not most innovative
I've seen Buckethead several times, a few times solo, but once with a live bassist and Brain on drums. You are most likely to see him perform around San Diego but he does tour the US.
He did play in bands. Even toured with Guns N Roses. He also played with the Primus leader bassist-vocalist. Buckethead collaborated with numerous artists. Usually he is alone on stage, but many times i saw him with a live drummer and sometimes with a bassist. The thing with Buckethead is that he has all types of music stored in his portfolio and he keeps going ) I have about 100 tracks of his in my playlist and one thing I know for sure - there is no possible way to listen to all of his recordings. The guy has an insane amount of records. He tours in USA, so I have no chance to see him live on stage - but if I could - I would. Because that is an inspiration to everyone with creative mind. If you think that there is nothing more you can do and you reached your limit - just listen to Buckethead and you will immediately start creating something new )
And the dude ain't all about face melting shreds, "watching the boats with my dad" is a polar opposite and is so emotional it's one of the few songs that get me all teary. He has so much material out though that it's kind of difficult to find the masterpieces you love, but all worth the search!
Custom killswitch. Same concept like Tom Morello how he “scratches” with sliding the pickup selector back and forth with one at full volume and the other fully off. Here the button does all that extra work at a tap. 👍👍 I was lucky enough to be living in delray beach that summer an was at this show
I would love a reaction of his live performance of Whitewash, the one by Dmac, it has such a surreal atmosphere and the guitar solo there is the best I’ve heard by far.
You’ve just found the worlds best musician. Over 400 albums. Thousands of songs, and they’re all good. Dragon shield, Electric tears, Crime slunk scene, Monsters and robots, Bermuda Triangle, Point Doom. Go to Buckethead Pikes on TH-cam. These are all instrumental albums of his, over 310 of them now. But those aren’t even his main albums and albums he did with other people. Dude is my inspiration. Nobody on his level in the music industry. Doubt me? Just try to listen to all his music before you do, if you even have can
The only bands that I know buckethead was apart of was praxis and GnR for abit after slash left. Other than that he’s collabed abit. One of my favorite things about the guy is half of his collabs were never planned. He’d just randomly go to watch a show have a few drinks back stage and get asked to perform. He’s pretty much the Dave Chappelle of the music world in that sense 😂
He uses a kill-switch on his guitar (that red button) to cut the signal to make that chopping sound, and he uses a pitch-shifter pedal with his leg to bend the sound to different octaves.
Buckethead doesn't like to involve in mainstream media. That is why you can't see him playing for a big festival, that is why he doesn't have any social media accounts also that is a part of reason he doesn't play for guns and roses and ozzy Osbourne.
The red button he is pressing is called a kill switch when pressed it kills the electrical signal from the pickups...like flipping a light switch on and off. Try the song siege engine next thats epic too there is a lot of buckethead albums 320 last time i checked.
Guys, Buckethead plays three-notes-per-string, which speeds the playing up. He doesn't "sweep" he alternative picks. He also does a 4-finger tap.....something no one else has mastered. Look up 3-notes-per-string. He has no fret markers. He's 6'4" tall, 7' with the bucket. His Les Paul is 1 and 1/4 larger to accomodate his size. His finger stretch allows him to reach the strings in an impressive way. He was taught initially, by Paul Gilbert and you can see the 3-note shapes in some of Paul's old 1980's tunes. But he usually doesn't look at the fret-board, and can't see well throught the mask, so he's obviously the G.O.A.T.
Other bands? Class X, Deli Creeps, Praxis, Bootsy Collins, played with Shawn Lane, Guns 'n Roses tour for three years. As you know, Bucket plays every pike differently in each live performance. The lack of this creative license was at the root of his split with GnR and the subsequent Sony recording contract offer. He played a trio briefly with Brain, from GnR, and a bassist I don't recognize. He chooses backing tracks because his creativity and skill are the draw, and the contributions of the rythm section aren't on the marketing radar (nor his fans' radar). No tour dates are scheduled for 2022.....he'll be in the recording studio.
This guy can play ANY genre of music. He can also shred on bass and even banjo. Metal, classical, jazz, bluegrass…he can do it and at a very high level.
I’m some parts he taps with all 8 fingers
He calls that 'Nubbing'. Its the next stage of tapping.
nice to see someone mention bucketheads giant hands and fingers haha
Not to mention his signature big ass guitar made for his giant body and hands
who
It’s pretty amazing how Buckethead flies under the radar. The dude is probably THE best to ever pick up the instrument imo.
@@johntomasik1555 I would give anything to see him live, what a way to be introduced to this legend!
@@johntomasik1555I saw him with Primus as well, shit was mind boggling.
Best ever, living or dead. He's the Buckethead.
He’s coming to NYC on October 27th!! 😆
Already bought my tickets 🔥
Fun fact: This song was written for the release of Guitar Hero 2.
Seen him live 6 times, best guitar show ever. He used to be in many bands, deli creeps and guns n roses ....
missed him touring this year what with all the sh*t going on.
Wow. I would give my first born to see him in England.
He is too good for plsying in gnr or deli creeps
Generation Axe begs to differ lol.
@@bigg7047 I'm with you on that
One of the best and most creative guitarists ever. And most prolific.
When other musicians say, WTF! You know you are one of the elites. 😎
Completely forgot how awesome this song was!
I saw Buckethead live in a very small venue. It was the most amazing live concert I ever saw.
No one mentioned he played with Guns and Roses for almost 4 years after Slash left the band. He was even given his own segment during the concerts.
Fun facts, He wrote this song for guitar hero 2 on the ps2. he has over 400 solo albums, and he was in guns n roses for four years
Buckethead was my first concert when I was 16. Just a dude on the stage playing the most epic guitar to a backing track of drumming on his mp3 player. So wierd to see one of the best guitarists of all time just solo. With only 20 people in the venue.
Rare for such a talent to display no ego, hence the mask.
He went from amazed and having fun, to actively analysing and confusion to sheer befuddlement in all of 2 seconds
BH will do that to you....
Absolute demon of a guitarist
Who ever request this song reaction is genius, thanks! BH played with Guns n Roses before. He also collaborate with other band/artist too if not mistaken.
You are correct!
Lol! Indeed. Happy to see them amazed.
Buckethead and John 5 should do a album together or at least tour together because that would definitely be killer.
Well you know....314 studio albums...he's something! IF YOU ASK ME he's the MOST versitile guitarist alive today!
my english sucks, sorry
its only the pike serie...then you have all the ather albums...own solo album not named pike...albums with praxis...album with viggo mortensen...album with colma....its a lot of albums.
this guy has been inventing new guitar techniques since the 80s, and I guarantee that almost all guitarists after them were inspired by him.
Bucket is THE man!
He uses a kill switch - rapid on/off
He played with Guns and Roses when Slash was out and it was crazy.
He was in Praxis with Bootsy Collins and in Guns N Roses from 2000-2004
Thanks for doing another one of my song's. You guys are killing it.
Yay!!! More Buckethead!!! Another great song which isn't overly long is Sail on Soothsayer.
Yes he has a live band, but samples most of the rhythms and creates most of the backtracks. He has over 300 studio albums. The man is a legend!
Its sad how Buckethead is still underground but I know that's where he's most comfortable literally one of the most godlike musicians I've ever watched
In 2015 BH released more of 50 albums. His discography is endless. Music is his first lenguaje. A wonderful soloist.
Wow
Actually he have released over 700 albums, its crazy. I am discovering this wonderful person music since over two years, it never stops to surprise me, he is the best.
Brian Carroll aka Buckethead besides GNR, played with Les Claypool of Primus and his other band, Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains and Praxis. My favorite song by Buckethead is Machete.
Due for another one. There’s a new 2023 soothsayer live and it’s a amazing
Please more buckethead!! Gory head stump is one of my favourites!!
Btw buckethead is a solist, he played for guns n roses but quit (they didnt deserve him)
Gory head stump is a sick song. Chicken pickin and slappin bootsy Collins style. Also, GNR 100% did not deserve him. He is a god
LOL he looked SOOO BOOOORED playing Slash's solos
Buckethead was in many bands his first band was called the deli creeps and the most famous one he was in is guns n roses. Buckethead is one of the 2 best guitarists in the world. He plays all across america i think But i dont know for certain cause im not from america

Wait until you see him play the bass. I seen him twice before and both times were jaw dropping when seeing him live.
that button is the kill switch it litrally cuts power off the guitar!!hes a master at it!
There is a clip of him with Primus, and it is bad ass!!!!!!!
He played with guns & roses for 4 years. Ozzy asked bucket to join him with the condition he take the mask off! Of course he wouldn’t!
He did play in bands. Even toured with Guns N Roses. He also played with the Primus leader bassist-vocalist. Buckethead collaborated with numerous artists. First time I heard him was on the Last Action Hero soundtrack. But he's played with gnr too while Slash wasn't in the band

THE G.O.A.T!!!!!
Believe that guitar has a longer neck & oversize body, the 2 buttons are kill switches.
He Hops around at one point he was playing with GNR and recorded Chinese Democracy as a session guitarist for Axle Rose.
I would love a reaction of his live performance of Whitewash, the one by Dmac, it has such a surreal atmosphere and the guitar solo there is the best I’ve heard by far.
Took me forever to learn this song.... then I woke up.... bleargh....
He is a god he’s my favorite guitarist

Buckethead don’t drink and he was In Quite a few bands don’t make shit up
This guy designs his own pedals and everything that is why his sounds you can't duplicate
He uses a kill-switch on his guitar (that red button) to cut the signal to make that chopping sound, and he uses a pitch-shifter pedal with his leg to bend the sound to different octaves.
He was in a band called Bucket Head and the Deli Creeps.
I died when he started tapping with all 8 fingers and they started to shook their heads until tapping part ended
Buckethead doesn't like to involve in mainstream media. That is why you can't see him playing for a big festival, that is why he doesn't have any social media accounts also that is a part of reason he doesn't play for guns and roses and ozzy Osbourne.

Why and how did Buckethead come up with this tune? Because he can!
Hey guys Buckethead played for Primus. He is best friends with them
We all need a bucket on our heads
There is know one out there that even comes close to him
He played with gnr a while back. He was the guitarist for that Chinese democdacy album they made.
He played with Brain from Primus a lot before the Guns n Roses gig.
Well I guess you will have to check out more Buckethead. I’m sure you can find something from his about 400 albums. How about Soothsayer next.
Not everybody knows that Buckethead also plays bass guitar at this level. There's a vid out there on YT somewhere. Check it out!
he has a lot of beautiful compositions. you need to check out more from him. If you want to cry, try Doors 2
Johnny Sokko...love Johnny Sokko. BH has been in GNR
He would be a great addition to primus songs.

I'm pretty sure he's 6'6". Dude is a giant

Respect from Brazil
Brasiiiil 🤘🏼
Oh Buckethead. Will you ever stop melting peoples brains?
Buckethead Scraps Live 2 29 96. That is what you want to see. Buckethead destroying in his pajamas
He jams with Les Claypool some . Oh and Serj Tankian I think They recorded a few songs
Have you guys did some *Steve Vai* already? If not I would recommend *For The Love of God* live version
My favorite in Guitar Hero PS 2 😂
He played with GNR and played Slash's solos without looking and very bored.
He was in guns n Roses for a bit after slash got the boot
For you information, paul gilbert that trach bucket head to play like that😁🤘
3:15 Mouths open says it all!
The kill switch cuts power to the pickups when pressed. (It's an arcade button)
yeah buckets insane
Best pinky in the biz.
Other bands? Class X, Deli Creeps, Praxis, Bootsy Collins, played with Shawn Lane, Guns 'n Roses tour for three years. As you know, Bucket plays every pike differently in each live performance. The button cuts the sound to the amp. It gives the guitar that special sound.
I think you just fell down a rabbit hole. A Buckethead rabbit hole.
God made Buckethead on the 6th day, that's why he took the next day off.
The button is a killswitch
This guy can play ANY genre of music. He can also shred on bass and even banjo. Metal, classical, jazz, bluegrass…he can do it and at a very high level.
Has he ever played in a full band?
He was in Guns N Roses before the original members reunited.
Also the bands Praxis, Deli Creeps, and Colonel Claypool’s Bucket Of Bernie Brains
I still think it's Steve Vai. Damn the evidence!
Ozzy wanted him when Zach left but also wanted his bucket off
Kingslayer- Bring me the horizon ft. Baby metal. Mind blowing Song
do more buckethead!
literally any song will due lolll he has more less 400 albums
Once Upon a Distant Plane, please
check out his idle Shawn Lane. you'll never be the same.
His technique is simple for the first part he’s just doing hammer ons and pull offs
Fun fact : buckethead almost never play in more than a 500 seat place
BTW that song was in guitar hero, and its the hardest to play.
When your that good you could wear a flower pot on your head.
You should do a buckethead pike like every week and name it something. Check put my favorite pike65 album or even bucketheadland
