As a professional who works with the handicapped.... it would have been very helpful to have in the kitchen some pull down cabinets so someone in a wheel chair could access items in the cupboards to be more independent & functional. Also, a pull out pantry is imperative. Good job on the shower and electric ramp. Twin beds would also be easier to get in/out of bed too.

Matt, Izzy & MJ....thank you for working together to expand the content that Matt can't provide...General dosen't sell Newmar. For those of you complaining, open your eyes. And, don't worry, Matt will return ASAP.

We own 2 handicapped accessible RVs. Saying it is accessible with 2 walking persons is strange. The slides have to be in for someone in a wheelchair to know if they can fit down the aisle. The toilet is at the wrong angle for side to side transfer. A wheelchair is never going to fit back by the bed, which appears elevated nor is one going to fit near the dinette when you remove the chair. Winnebago does build an affordable, accessible RV and has for years. If we were to spend 400K, it would be on a house in another state. A B&D transfer seat would be a real addition on the driver's side. The lift was the thing Newmar got right. Our coaches are a 1992 Warrior 21' with a Winnebago factory Braun lift customized by 5R that my husband uses for dog shows when he goes without me and a 30' Georgetown 300 also customized by 5R. Each disabled person has to have the RV that fits their abilities with the correct lift for their chair. Newmars are wonderful coaches, but geared towards the upper middle class.

Marion I'm glad you commented. Looking at it I thought it would be good for a couple with one wheelchair bound person and one not. I say that because there where many cabinets that could not be reached. The washer and/or dryer was way up high. (should have been a low combo)The kitchen sink should have been open underneath. What I really thought was that this would be great for an aging couple that could ride the lift like an elevator, take advantage of the no-step-in shower and still be able to walk around inside and reach things. What do you think about that?

If I were to design an RV for wheelchairs. I would build the cabin between the wheels on air suspension. Park the RV, the cabin lowers, like those old Citroen DS. A small ramp slides out, wheel in/out no lift.
Place water tanks under bed, batteries in dinette bench. Solar on the roof. No generator. Dinette one side a bench, other side open for the wheelchair. And I would ask a person in a Wheelchair to assist to proof the design. Cabinets and folding doors don't seem to be operate well for a person in a wheelchair.

I Could put my motorcycle inside the RV and save having to pull a trailer, then I could kiss it goodnight before I went to bed.

Here is an idea, It would have been nice to see a person in a wheelchair show it. See it from their perspective. It would show the accessibility much better.

  • @refinedisabilities
    @refinedisabilities 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

You need to film a person in an electric wheelchair getting around in there. There's no turning room in the back. You can't access the bedroom closet at all. You can't line your wheelchair up next to the bed for a transfer. The toilet is low. The shower will get water everywhere. You can't open the refrigerator doors in that hallway with an electric chair there. You can't access the dryer unless your chair elevates.... if it does, loading the dryer might take 30 minutes. We have to have side by side front loading washer and dryers. If you expect the wheelchair user to sit in the passenger seat, where does the wheelchair go? You can't access some of the bottom cabinets/drawers in the kitchen because your wheelchair is in the way. You are assuming the wheelchair user has a partner or full time care giver. Many don't. You have a sticker price of a luxury home for something wheelchair users can barely use. We people with disabilities appreciate the gesture, but it would be nice of you asked us in the R&D process what we need to live.

Thank you all for the review. At first blush all I can say is, if I bought that motorhome I'd park it and make it my permanent residence. It is beautiful. I use a mobility chair 75% of the time. However, several of your recent reviews of Class C rigs have enormous storage spaces at the rear. I call them "mother-in-law" suites. Don't get me wrong, I have loved all my (5) ex mothers in laws. But that storage space in The Class Cs would be ideal for fold up mobility chairs. That is the direction I am heading. Thank you all again for the review .

I like it and it is laid out nice - even without being bound to a chair...tripping hazards are gone which is a plus for mobility issues. Price is steep for a disabled person.

I do not like the plastic door...at all...specially at this price level. Also should have a few options such as soft close drawers. Like dish washer and the obvious ... handicapped accessibility/wide lay out. Love the lighter colors and exterior storage!

Supposedly showing handicap accessibility. But doesn't show the lift in operation. Instead, the video shows a total of 5 steps and he says, "You go in the classic way, up the steps." That gets any disabled person interested in it, right? Wrong.
Edit: Did show half an operation at 4:30.

So! Even though it's not a review by Matt and Andrea, I'm still going to do three likes and dislikes about it! Also Good job to Endless Rving for the video and thank you for letting Matt use it!
    Likes!
    1. The fact it is truly handicap accessible. If I'm not mistaken, Newmar does also make a Canyon Star, gas class A, that is also handicap accessible.
    2. Beautiful interior The overall layout is great for those in a wheel chair or who might need a walker, or just all in all have very limited mobility.
    3. Storage. Lots and lots of it inside and out. Course it is a diesel so that's kinda expected.
    Dislikes!
    1. Rear mounted radiator. Those will never get as good of airflow through them as a side mounted one. Making the engine run hotter and because the fan has to work harder, reducing the fuel mileage a little more too.
    2. Slatted vent covers. Seem a bit plain for 410K msrp.
    3. Can I say that rear radiator again? I reaaaaally dislike it. At that price, side mounted is the only way to go.

Didn’t see a single wheelchair tie down spot. Where is the person in a wheelchair supposed to secure their chair? Dislike the passenger seat with the stairs as entry for able bodied people. For the price you’d think there’d be better partition than plastic flimsy junk. Winnebago definitely makes a way better one at a cheaper price. Winnebago definitely puts more thought into the truly accessible RV. Nice attempt but definitely a fail at being fully accessible.
