I have ms and have been using a chair for the last 13 years. Now I have decided to convert an old medium duty ambulance and most folks think I’m crazy. I for one do not. At least most days.
Don’t worry what most people think, it’s not important if it’s in your heart and that’s what you want to do. Just because you have MS and you have a wheelchair doesn’t mean you’re bound to it. Go for it and all my best wishes to you
Although most people will be reacting out of love, you will only know once you’ve tried it. My two bob’s worth, go for it. In my experience, and I am old, we regret the things we didn’t do or attempt to do. Good luck with whatever you decide.
I am a new wheelchair user. Seeing what you have done in your van helps me to see what changes I can make to our house to make it more accessible. My husband and I planned to travel when he retired next year but with me being in a wheelchair, we figured that dream was over. This was very encouraging.
Dreams are Never Over unless “You” stop Dreaming & Stop Living- Follow Your Dreams! And Never Give up !! And remember Where there is a WILL there Is ALWAYS a WAY !!
My Dad had polio when he was 18mo old. He lived his whole life in a wheelchair. Every car or van he owned was accessible for him to drive. We went camping a lot. 1st in a tent camper then an accessible trailer and finally an accessible motor home. We saw a lot of the US that way. My Dad concentrated on what he could do, not what he couldn't. One of his favorite things to do was boat fishing on Lake Erie. Great guy...great Dad. I really enjoyed your content. Keep rollin!
i’m a bilateral amputee of my feet and I’ve been watching these videos for the past year never ever have seen anyone with any kind of challenge until today. Thank you from the bottom of my heart thank you and bless you for doing this and showing me it can be done.
BRO....I got out wheelchaired 20 years I have been rolling and traveling (no ocean stuff) but this video blew me away like 10 times. I even have a 2021 med roof awd transit. I just do not think most people can grasp how Elite this woman is.
As a mechanic who worked on wheelchair lifts and platform lift for many years and work with handicap people to assist them in their life I’m very proud of you you’re a brave young girl
I'm sure you're sick of hearing this, but you are truly an inspiration ❤️. I have a spinal cord injury and while I can figure out my mobility challenges, my chronic pain has led me to recently give up on my van life. You are living the life for those of us who can't! Beautiful and clever van build ❤️. You go girl!! 🥰💖🇨🇦. (I think you should give classes on the various adaptive tools you use. I had no idea such things existed!).
No one told my 4 yr old brother he had a sister on the way so when I was born he threatened to kill me. He was kept away from me for the first 6mo of my life. When I was 3 he nearly succeeded in killing me by pushing me while on my trike down a flight of cement stairs. I landed at the bottom on my back w/the trike on top of me and a broken back. My parents did not take me to the hospital and I did not know why my back always hurt terribly while growing up. 7 degenerative discs and spinal stenosis bloomed much later in my life and chronic pain has been my constant unwelcome companion. 3 yrs ago I lost my ability to walk but I refuse to give up and let life stop me from living a fulfilled one. This lady inspires me to do more than I realized I had options to do. I do believe the van life is calling me!
This is very inspiring because I’m going to need a wheelchair to get around because I can’t walk short distances, and I was wondering if it was possible to use a wheelchair with vanlife 😄. Thanks! for the video! The van is beautiful 😍
When you do have to get a wheelchair, be choosy if you can afford to. When I had to use one I was very poor and could only buy the cheapest model which made it somewhat difficult to get around since manual chairs require so much upper body strength. Good luck and God bless you!
Totally possible. I started my vanlife using a wheelchair. But because I am incomplete walking paraplegic and discovered kick scooters, I no longer use a wheelchair. I lived full time on the road in NZ and now in Australia. Good lifestyle.
I love to hear stories such as yours that can show other handicapped persons that a whole different life is out there. I have been using a chair for 50 years now, and have lived the van life since 1978. Keep doing your thing and let no one define the lifestyle you have chosen.
Lisa, you are an incredible woman and this is an incredible build. I love all of the adaptations you have made in your van. So many things I wouldn't have thought of. You are an inspiration to anyone thinking of nomad life. I keep thinking of how you can get your surfboard off your bed. Perhaps if you had a false floor throughout the van (but not the garage) that had a foot of storage underneath it, you would have more room for storage. The storage could be accessible from a number of panels or doors on the floor. You could access a large space where you have the floor extension over the step by the side door. Thank you for the tour. Enjoy!
@J L, she is an inspiration to anyone really! I mean what a lovely person and story. She didn't just give up, in fact she remains more active than many people who have no, otherwise physical challenges. I also love that lift at the sliding door! A friend of mine has the ramp in his van for his disabled son. In his case the ramp is fitting for their configuration but it definitely takes up much more space inside and out. I also like the fact that she said she has to really think about things she's doing and that by necessity she has to do so independently. This was a great video and transformation of the van for someone with physical challenges. I've seen so many different vehicles, campers, even the HUGE and terribly expensive RV's, some of which have a platform that slides out so you can drive your small car onto it and the whole thing slides back under the RV so you literally carry your car with you YET I have not seen a single one from the factory made with a "wheelchair lift" etc. Something you mortgage/sell your house and still take out a loan to purchase and it just has "stairs and a hand rail"... This was a great video and I like how she even had collapsible stool for someone needing a little help getting in/out of her van!
You have really thought of everything, Cuddoo's to you , also your the second female Olympia paraplegic in a van both being females that I have glad I can on to hear your stories I'm a supporter for special Olympic, , I really believe in all of you🙂☺😊🥰
Thank you so much for sharing. I have been a wheelchair user for 30+ years. About 10 years ago My husband and I got al 40 foot class A diesel pusher. I loved it so much, but when it became more work than fun we knew we had to do something else. I did not think a van would be even feasible. Now that I see what you have done I am very inspired.
I'm an 8-year stroke survivor who has a weekend left side. I've been trying to figure out a way where I could potentially get away from the cold Midwest Winters but the RV community has not been very accommodating of those of us with limited mobility. I've never seen the kind of chairlift that is used in this van and I'm very impressed by it. I think that this band is very well designed and very useful. I think her so much for giving us such a great tour of her van and how she is able to live an active and fulfilling life on the road. Thank you so much!
This is great! My son, is in a wheelchair, he has cerebral palsy, and has been in his chair for years; I bet he was excited about all that you've done in your van and it's given me ideas for him too. Thanks for the tour. Your attitude is perfect and I love that you're living life to the fullest. Enjoy your trips and stay safe. (from Sandi)
Many props for doing this. None of us able bodied people have a right to complain, that's for sure. I am a van lifer with heart disease and diabetes, and people think I am crazy. Don't let it stop me from living my life, but anyone doing this lifestyle from a wheelchair has my total respect. Be well.
I have no accessibility issues and your experience has blown away every excuse I’ve used for why I’m not making this happen for myself. Thank you for sharing!
I was supposed to be asleep but I just had to watch this one and I'm so surprised that more people didn't come up this video... It is mind blowing how adaptable you are and how you found a way to really make it work for a lifestyle that you really wanted even though you had barriers trying to stop you. Wow wow wow this is truly inspirational whether the person wants to live in a van or not ♥️💯
One of the best van conversions I've seen, mainly because it's been so thoroughly thought out! What a great job she did with absolutely everything. Very interesting to hear that she used it for a while without cabinets etc to really work out what would suit best. A lesson for everyone! I especially like the double sided cabinet and the lift bench.
I spent 3 years in a wheelchair due to bad hips, and even being a temporary situation, I learned some of your challenges. I have awesome respect for you that have not let you limitations stifle your life. You are an awesome smart, beautiful young lady. Much respect to you!
The mods on this van build to accommodate your mobility needs are absolutely incredible. The wench system for that bike is unbelievably amazing! Well done and safe journeying on all your adventures.
I stumbled across your content researching coach built motor homes. I am absolutely amazed at how you have adapted the van for your own lifestyle. You are a very inspirational person.
I am having a spinal issue and having mobility issues + urinary + bowel problems. But still having heavy dreams of living in a van. Now I am 33. I place myself in a van at least by 35. 😍
I am mesmerized by this awesome rig. Not only is it beautiful, but functional for you. I like all the mobility tools you (i.e. getting in the van, the bed and getting your mountain bike in and out the van. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 A guy who goes by Jeffie Bear is hoping to get back into van life with his current mobility challenge.
Your video of your van, and you are very inspiring. Those who view it should feel that they too can do anything. Wishing you the very best from Washington DC.
Your van is beautiful and the functionality is outstanding. I am 73 years old with no major disabilities and just watching this video adds to my desire to get out on the road and go. Congratulations to you!
What an amazing job she has done. Her mobile house is perfect for her and simple things that made a huge difference in her everyday life. What a great job. Congrats.
UR amazing! I’m a part time wheelchair user and I’m making the transition to a nomadic lifestyle (sort of by choice). I worried about dealing with my WC and service dog. Your story is awesome me and provides with much needed inspiration. You go girl!

This is very inspiring to see that you are getting out and enjoying life. So awesome that you where able to find a way to build a van that fits for your comfort. Your van looks amazing. I was curious how you get the surfboard out of the van? I was wondering how you became paralyzed? I was paralyzed from a neck injury in 2012 but had major neck surgery and wasn't sure if I would walk again, but after the surgery I had to learn to rewalk again. Your story is amazing.
Thank you Lisa! You're a beautiful and blessed young woman; with amazing abilities and a sparkling personality. You are fearless!! :-) With that said, you're home is lovely and practical! I enjoyed listening and watching you. Your parents, family, friends,...all of your "support group" must also be amazing people!! Blessings, be safe, and I hope we see updates from you from time to time❤
This is amazing! I've been trying to find examples of vans/busses with wheelchair accessibility both so I can take a specific friend with me and more recently because I've been needing a wheelchair to get around. I've never heard of that arm lift before! It solves some design issues I was having with a typical wheelchair lift being involved in a van setup. And this woman seems like she has a wonderful spirit! If she had TH-cam, I'd watch her! Thank you for making this video!
This is a beautiful build! It's great that you could figure out everything to work for you! The whole thing wowed me, but especially the lift to the bed!!! Wishing you safe travels and fun adventures!
Oh my god. This video is a game changer for me. I am in a wheelchair, I don’t have the same disability as you Lisa, I have CP. I always thought it was impossible to live in a van as a wheelchair user, especially with a lifted bed, but you just proved me wrong! I have so many question, I’m going to contact you!
KeepInItReal: Watching you during your van tour has giving me hope in just maneuvering around my new tiny apt. You are the 1st wheelchair user I've seen on a van life journey, and I enjoy watching a few of them. I had a massive stroke back in Aug 2013, and after 2.5 years of rehab I was on my own. No aids or nurses to help me. The stroke effected my right side. I can't drive a car, but recently I got doctor approval to use my mobility scooter. So its been a daily struggle for me, and now since my old place decided to raise rents in May & I'm on SSI disability I have limited income now I'm in a tiny apt with about half the space I used to have. Seeing you maneuver with less space then me shows me that I will figure out to get around this new problem. Thank You for that gift of hope & showing us your home.
Thank you for commenting 🙏🏼 I wish you all the best in your tiny home - hopefully with the new scooter you’ll be able to get outside with greater ease! That’s really what helps me in tough times.
Wow!!! You are so amazing! I know that you are inspiring many who live life in a wheelchair that they can still experience anything! Great innovations in your build. Brilliant wench system for the bike! Thanks so much for sharing! (Jane in SC) You inspire me to get up and get active! ❤🙏
What a beautiful person. So inspiring and such a generous spirit. This is the first tiny living video where I've felt really grateful for you sharing your story x
I loved this so much. I’ve been debating getting an RV or some kind of camper van. I wasn’t sure that this lifestyle could be done in a smaller van vs an RV. I use a power chair to get around. I walk as well but it’s very painful and as I get older my mobility will decrease. I’m in my 40’s so I’m definitely not young. But this video gave me so much hope!
Great build . Love the lift, so much smaller and convenient than ramp style. You're not the only one who bumps into or catches on the drawer hardware! I've always preferred hardware that eliminates that problem.😁. Really enjoyed your video. Safe travels 🤗🙋👍
I'm surprised more people don't use recessed cabinet handles. I just know I'd bump into them and hurt myself, because I do so constantly in my tiny apartment kitchen. In the van, there's even less space, so whenever I see people's handles sticking out, it just seems so impractical to me. Recessed handles look like a really wise decision for a small space.
Hello - Thank You for you Inspiration ! I have CP and almost 2 years ago Life has become a challenge for me as I now have a electric wheelchair .. I Love to travel and wanted to do something like this when I am able to get a van .. THANKS a Bunch !!!
I have MS and also use a wheelchair for mobility. I though van life would be a no go/hard for me. This has made me reconsider - thank you for this video tour. Truly inspirational.
Out of all the videos I've watched on van conversions, this was the most enjoyable. I really enjoyed her personality and tenacity as well as her willingness to do the things that will bring her happiness. The conversion is genius and I applause her design skills. I hope she continues to enjoy her life on the road.
Really needed to see this so thank you! I'm waiting on a below knee amputation because of chronic pain. Two things i've really missed have been driving and getting out in the woods. The surgery might help with getting me about and in the woods but i wasn't sure how it would affect using a van. Now i'm itching to crack on
Hope your surgery goes well. Check out another van lifer, Jeffie Bear. His van life is on hold for the moment as he had double amputation above the knee earlier this year. He' s working on figuring out how to get back into a van again. He will in time. He's a great guy. Best of luck.
This was incredible inspiring to me since im strongly considering vanlife and have a body that need some new ideas for it to work. Wonderful van, beautiful human =)
I've had many spine surgeries and the final one this passed April 11,2023. I was told this is all that could be done. I have to prepare for life in a wheelchair. I have lost a lot of hope until I saw this video. I love this whole concept. I am not as athletic as this young lady but I sure can see my independence with a van like this. There is so much I want to see in the U.S. I can see this van being a perfect avenue to achieve my goals. Thank you for sharing this video. This is 💯 helpful. Now to find a reasonable price vehicle to move forward in Baltimore Md. is a horse of another color lol. God bless you young lady and everyone watching this video. Stay safe live happy.😊
I am blown away by your setup! You’ve pretty much thought of everything, but I’m scared to see the price tag. I’ve done lots of tent camping and slept in my car and have dreamed about van life or RV life, but didn’t know how to make it accessible. Now I at least have a starting point. Thank you for sharing this with us!
I’ve started posting videos to my personal TH-cam channel so if you’d like more travel ideas, feel free to check them out and subscribe! All the best!!
Pretty amazing woman! And what she came up with can be useful to so many people, including the growing elderly population. If there is a will there is a way! Bravo!
How Awesome!!! Very inspiring and so thought out!!! Kudos to you for not letting your disability hold you down. So proud of ALL you've accomplished!!! Great job!!!
Smart idea using a winch to move your mountain bike. Love your van. I have mobility issues and am looking for a van now to build out. Thank you so much.
I'm so happy to see an accessible build! 😭🥺 Ever since I got COVID, I've been disabled, and it's been kinda sad since I have been thinking I might not be able to live this lifestyle. I'm so happy there are answers for most of my questions!

UR amazing! I’m a part time wheelchair user and I’m making the transition to a nomadic lifestyle (sort of by choice). I worried about dealing with my WC and service dog. Your story is awesome me and provides with much needed inspiration.
You go girl!
Love to hear that! We hope you go for it! Here is another tour for extra inspiration, th-cam.com/video/SVqVvSrDVvk/w-d-xo.html. :)

With that said, you're home is lovely and practical! I enjoyed listening and watching you. Your parents, family, friends,...all of your "support group" must also be amazing people!! Blessings, be safe, and I hope we see updates from you from time to time❤
Thanks!! If you want to see updates, give my channel a follow. I’ll be doing a video soon if everything I have added since this tour.
She is so kick ass , what a amazing woman
Exactly 💯
Thanks -- this is a truly brilliant accessibility/adaptive thinking story (from a 64-year-old man living w/C-6 SCI since 1976)
The perfect camper van, setup design. Never seen anything like it. Like the pull-down cabinets and stove location.
She is so inspiring ‼️. Determination and perseverance are the key to to life! Thanks for sharing this ♥️♥️
Oh my god. This video is a game changer for me. I am in a wheelchair, I don’t have the same disability as you Lisa, I have CP. I always thought it was impossible to live in a van as a wheelchair user, especially with a lifted bed, but you just proved me wrong! I have so many question, I’m going to contact you!
So amazingly strong woman. Full of positivity. So inspiring. Take care & God bless…
Best van life video I’ve ever seen! Your “can do” spirit is so inspirational, well done!
God be with you stay safe 🙏 . I love that your not letting the fact your in a wheelchair to live your life your way!!
Thank you for showing wheelchair accessible van.
Thank you for commenting 🙏🏼
I wish you all the best in your tiny home - hopefully with the new scooter you’ll be able to get outside with greater ease!

@@jc142 I appreciate it!
She is so incredible and I love her van build
You are inspiring, I must say! I am not in a wheelchair just older and many of your adaptations can be beneficial to me as well! Thank you!
She is amazing! Creative, and Resourceful!
What an amazing woman! Living life your way. Very inspirational.
Hello - Thank You for you Inspiration ! I have CP and almost 2 years ago Life has become a challenge for me as I now have a electric wheelchair .. I Love to travel and wanted to do something like this when I am able to get a van .. THANKS a Bunch !!!
This is SO cool!!! The ingenuity and creativity that went into this van is remarkable.
Aw thank you! I’m pretty proud of the ideas I came
Up with to make it all work.
You are one smart gal. The way your van is set up is tops. And you definitely made the best of your handi cap. Love your channel ❤️
I’ve just started posting more wheelchair content on my personal TH-cam. Heck out yesterday’s video and subscribe 🙏🏼
Such a beautiful van with handy features! Happy and safe travels!
Aw thank you so much for the kind words!
Great ideas for many people of any ability. Love the swing arm lift and immediately went and investigated and also passed on the info. Thank you!
You are an amazing young woman. You should be very proud of yourself.
My brother is paralyzed and and athlete who suffers from a lot of pain. I’m definitely sending him this video ❤️❤️❤️
Really thoughtfully beautifully done bravo!!
UR SUCH AN INSPIRATION! This is amazing! I think ur a go-getter who is living the dream! Many happy travels:)
This was incredible inspiring to me since im strongly considering vanlife and have a body that need some new ideas for it to work. Wonderful van, beautiful human =)
Truly
Wonderful ! God Bless !!!
You and your van are a total inspiration. Well done interior and love the bike. Thank you for showing what can be done.
I am so proud of this young woman! She is not letting anything stop her!
If anyone is thinking of van life, this is the video to watch. What an inspiration!
Stay safe live happy.😊
she's has inspired me a lot, she's one in a million
This is amazing! Love that she found a way to make it work for her active lifestyle and accessibility.
Oh I’m glad it was helpful! Roll on!
I love your bench riser. You give me hope for camping. Things I have not thought of yet.
Aw thanks! I’ve just started my own TH-cam channel so check out my latest videos and subscribe if you’d like to see more!
Vanlife at its core is about accessibility and this is really inspiring for me as I navigate life with my own disabilities :) thanks for sharing!
Wow she is amazing
You're a free spirit with such a beautiful sense of adventure... Thank you for sharing! Rock on.
Smart idea using a winch to move your mountain bike. Love your van. I have mobility issues and am looking for a van now to build out. Thank you so much.
Thank you so very very much for sharing your home, your life and your heart! You are truly an inspiration!
What a beautiful build for a beautiful lady 😍
I'm so happy to see an accessible build! 😭🥺
Ever since I got COVID, I've been disabled, and it's been kinda sad since I have been thinking I might not be able to live this lifestyle. I'm so happy there are answers for most of my questions!
