    I would like to see a stock LQ4 junkyard stock and a run n/a and then add boost to it without going to e85 just run it on 91

    • @jmac636
      @jmac636 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      that will put a limit on the amount of boost and timing....E85 is safer and will make more torque/horsepower at the same boost level. Which is the whole point of running E85. Also the fact that everyone always wants more and gasoline and wanting more power can be the death of your rods or ring lands.

    • @lazylizard6532

      @kennethpowers8995 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lazylizard6532 If you don’t have access to E85 there are a few great additives to spice up pump gas these days. Torco race fuel concentrate and “Race Gas” concentrate are two I have personally used with good results. I used Race Gas and pump 93 to keep a 12.5:1 85x89 B20Vtec alive on stock sleeves around 460whp @ 13-14psi, and on my 370 CID/PTE 6870 combo in my Fox I can run the same timing values as my E90 tune while using Pump 93 with Torco concentrate added in and make the same power. Only adjustments I have to make are to fueling. So the additives are an affordable option.

    • @bbdl7042
      @bbdl7042 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kennethpowers8995 yeah guess you don’t daily some of these set up when mixing over priced race gas. I can get 93 but no way in hell am I buying t4 or any 100+ octane to drive to work.

    • @kennethpowers8995
      @kennethpowers8995 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bbdl7042 depends how you are tuning. Most if not all current standalone ECUs have a Flex Fuel feature and with that plus a content sensor if properly setup you’re ok to run anything from 87 to 93 to E85 and any dilution or mix of the above. ECU will alter tune using tank sensor and engine sensors like knock etc for whatever fuel mix it’s got in the tank. This is why I prefer to tune flex fuel vs straight E85 tunes. (Pump E85 is almost never actually 85%; it varies batch to batch and season to season.)

      The LY6 would be better with the S480. The rectangular port heads move a ton of air and will really tax the turbine of a 78/75. You might still run out of turbine on the LQ4 if you run much boost.

    Richard, why did you have a victorR intake on oval port heads? Stock those heads flow 293 at .500, and very little more above that. With that mild camshaft your not going to make much more power. A super Victor might help a bit, in general a bigger camshaft will help more and if you're worried about floating the valves you could always use a set of 1.6 or even 1.5 rockers. Comp has an extreme marine cam with 254 duration and only 575 lift for gen6 engines with 112lsa. That's a really big hydraulic cam.

    I’ve always personally been partial to straight Garrett or PTE units when it comes time to buy a turbo, but these Borg units seem to be very popular and perform quite well. Strange but more than a couple of guys I know that used to run Holsets now run BW turbos. I’m also recently impressed by the China/EBay GT3582R clones- they run very well! We have my brother in law’s budget DSM into the 9’s on one and it’s a $120 turbo haha. Speaking of which, ever plan to dyno test or Big Bang a 4G63? The 93 AWD Talon I threw together with the eBay GT35 for my bro is running the car’s original bone stock 132k mile shortblock, ARP head studs, ported stock head with Kelford cams and gears, JMF intake setup to run an Accufab 75mm TB. This I believe is the current bottleneck of his setup and had I purchased the JMF manifold myself I would have had it configured to run an 80-90mm Q45 style TB but the setup still makes great power. Personal best is 9.63 @ 142 down at Showtime Dragway in Pinellas. Car is factory auto and around 2900lbs so that China turbo is making steam for sure. It’s the GT3582R T3/4 bolt with .70 AR sitting on a Megan “long tube” manifold. It’s only ever been street tuned but as I said traps 142 through an auto at over 3000lb race weight with a driver and E90 in the fuel cell. Would love to see a Big Bang 4G!!

    My son decided he wants to autocross instead of drag race now so all of my WOT turbo stuff is going to kind of laggy I think what’s your thoughts? GenIV 5.3ls 243 heads ls6 intake or truck intake 120# injectors comp-229/236 623/617 114 lsa holder hx55 26cm exhaust housing th400 in a 71 Camaro 12pt cage. Should I buy a smaller cam to get the rpm power range down a bit

    • @timothybayliss6680
      @timothybayliss6680 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That cam is a good size but not crazy for a 5.3l. That turbo is huge. A 26cm housing is big...why does he need to autocross with 1000hp? The 26cm housing is about 1.15 Ar and the turbo is about the same size as the s475. I would look at a smaller exhaust housing, 17cm is available. Autocross with a th400, do you have a full manual valve body? What stall speed?
      The turbo lag will be an issue based on how long it takes to make boost, I think you're having a boost threshold issue. Even if you put a stock or btr truck cam in the engine, it will not appreciably change the boost response. Even the best camshaft for torque will be within 20ft lbs of this one at 4000rpm, you might get a little better off boost response but you might only see this rpm twice in a run. Your son might have to learn to left foot brake to keep the turbo spooled or you can do some antilag in the programming. That turbo is really big for what you're doing.

      @@richardholdener1727 okay and what would you recommend for around 700 with the t56 tremec manual trans ? Upto say 14psi of boost ? I plan to retain a t4 but struck between a s480 and the s475 and whether a 1.25 or 1.10 ar would be better for my application

    Even trying to achieve maximum suckage on a 4.8 you still embarrassed most 350s ever produced.

      What kind of camparison is a long stroke small bore 4.8 with boost to a short stroke larger bore naturally aspirated with 50 year old cylinder head technology? Of course the 4.8 made more power Mr. Obvious.

    Doesn't a tighter LSA move the power up in the RPM range, and a wider LSA increase low-end torque?
