My 2 year old Gen 8 still runs super on hard crawling outings. Even the stock steering servo has minimal slop. Just stay on top of hardware torque and re grease the gear sets once a year. Great product from Redcat Racing emerging into our serious/fun hobby at a reasonable price point.
I love the Redcat. My Gen 7 Pro follows my Gladiator almost everywhere, and does better in some cases. Gladiator wins big on most climbs, especially up leaning trees.
All the noise comes from the Mod1 gears. If the pack kit is an older kit it probably still had the belly bump but Redcat does have the upgrade for it and its pretty cheap. It helps to slide better over the rocks. Great build and video. Imagine if you put like $400 to this build of what you would have.
I have a Gen 8- orange Stock except tire foams and a ProModeler servo. It’s a beast. My blue Gen 8- heavy on the mods is a blast to run. Lots of haters out there bashing Redcat. I love them. Great video and comparison - really cool Chevy body!!
Thank you for making this video. I run redcat RC's. They are way more capable than people give them credit. I'm part of a crawler group and my Everest gen7 keeps up with all the largest crawlers. Scx10.3 trx4, axial enduro. Only thing is redcat doesn't have locking diffs or 2 speed trans. But doesn't matter. I make climbs that they can't and vise versa.
Finally someone I’m subbed too puts out a cool video. I’ve got the redcat gen 8 axe edition with a TON of mods so I’m biased in my opinion but all in all I like both platforms and it was a cool video to watch. 👍🏼
Great video! Like your friend, I purchased the Gen 7 for a first truck and also had issues. My next truck was the Gen 8 pack also built on a budget with an RC4WD 45 turn motor, Hobbywing 1080, same steering servo you used and Spectrum STX3 radio w/ receiver. Ironically, I used the Proline 66 Chevy C-10 body too! It was a great setup for someone like me on a budget and I can appreciate your honest review!
The Gen 8 really works best with 550 can size motor Homes hobbies has several 3 and 5 slot motors to choose from for $20-25. I like the 5 slot 12T Crawl Master for excellent low speed control and good torque.
I love my AXE edition. Put metal rims and goods foams and off you go. I added Reefs steel sliders, more brass up front and a little in the rear. Otherwise upgrade as stuff breaks. Brass link mounts and wider brass wheel hexes. Aluminum axle housings front and rear plus an awesome light kit. "Betty" weighs about 10 lbs - but don't let her hear me talk about her weight or how mush I've got into her. She's very capable and out crawls many of my buddies rigs. Might swap out the 540 brushless for the 550 3300kv and put the 540 into a Phoenix build(they can only except up to a 540 can).Until then I'll enjoy my Redcat - Fast - affordable - fun!
Just wanted to say my husband passed away suddenly at our home on Feb. 7th, suddenly. Tomorrow will be a month. I was going through his phone and just wanted to say, he really loved your site. He always talked about you and would have me watch your videos. Chris was 50 years old when he went to heaven and he is a kid at heart especially when it came to his toys. (RC cars) thank you for adding a little happiness to his life and God bless you. 💕💕💕
Great video! I love my Gen8! The only problems I had with it were the receiver and servo which both failed in less than 1 month. RedCat's customer service immediately sent me replacements under warranty and the new parts have been perfect for over 8 months now! As for a body for your Gen8 PACK, I'd love to see you do a sweet rust and weathering job on an old Suburban or a Jeep Grand Wagoneer or even just the Scout II clear body that RedCat sells. Either way, I'm sure whatever you do will be just as awesome as the rest of your builds!
You can program the combo esc receiver with a hobby wing card. It has all the same programs as the 1080 less the servo voltage, it only has the 6v option. But the stock settings aren't the best so you will be happy to get the settings adjusted.
If you grease those portals and the diffs more it will quiet it up a lot! I have the Gen8 RTR and a TRX4 sport I built with a HW1080 and a Holmes crawl master sport 550 and they are very equal in my opinion. I paid $300 for the Redcat and about $450 total to get the TRX4 kit and the electronics ( HobyWing1080, 25 KG servo like yours, the Holmes Hobbies sport motor and a knock off spectrum receiver). I think with the extra $150 you could get aluminum bead locks, better tires and anything beats the foams that came with that RTR (they may be better now, not sure) and some accessories like the light kit.
The mod1 gears are loud, but if you do the steel ones and the aluminum cases it quiets down a lot. My gen 8 is by far my most capable rig, but has the hobbywing fusion 1800 and power hd 25kg servo and a bunch of other stuff done. As an axial fan and owner, my redcat is more durable too! Scx10.3 has clicky sounds that concern me!
The only thing I have broken on my gen 8 is the front portal drive cups, where the axle shafts go in. Redcat sells beefier ones for $25. The same ones on the new gen 8 v2.
I think I'd spend the extra $100 and get the Axial between these 2. Better supported platform. I'd take the sweet custom body though off the Redcat. Looks awesome.
Axiall has a builder's kit to it's just about obsolete but it's around the same price non portal I have the version 1 and the version 2 and they both work more than well enough as far as the scale pickup truck goes they would kill anything on the street
Ok 3 mile gorge trying to find it. We are central oklahoma crawlers. Love to go check out new places. Next month we are havin a get together with the 918 crawlers from tulsa. At chandler park up by them. Where is this 3 mile gorge.
@@RCeveryday Well you had me fixin' to take an hour ride just outside of Fairfax, OK to visit 3 Mile CANYON. LOL I am in 918 and as you probably know, its pretty flat here so when they say "Canyon" that in Okie talk means hilly! I am disabled so for me to find a place that I can trail & crawl is difficult. Now, to build a proper truck we have to figure out how to torch off those shock towers and put a proper bed on. Might have to invent some mini air bags! Thanks for the ride along! The cab looks very cool.
Opened up my eyes to a different way of approaching the hobby. Thanks! More content like this please!

Been enjoying your old stuff here a bit. Keep it Scale on the Trail🏆🎥🤝

My first crawler was a gen 8 I got used and they are a great truck for the money.

Very cool comparison, I am a fan of the gen8 pack especially at the $150 price point. Just right for my budget!
That old Chevy body is perfect! I love the budget look and no bed on that Redcat lol.

I think Redcat is coming out with some good rigs. And the kits are a little more fun in my mind.
Like them both. The old truck 🛻 fits the nosiness well like it. Great job.

I love my Gen8 axe edition. Thing is a tank and can rock crawl all day.
They both did rearly well the red cat look good with that body n it’s good to c some do a proper budget build m8 👍👍
Awesome video and that red cat looked nice with that ol chevy c10 truck body on it.

Love the build. Great video
I thought both did well👍 Maybe for the Redcat Try to do a replica of your full size truck
Awesome video! If you're just getting started you can't beat the price. I say go with the c10 body. That thing is pretty sweet.

I would get the gen8 rtr for 299. Knew someone with it and it did really well. The pack kit sounded very dry

Very nice 👍 they both did really well I must try one of them red cat's in the future

Excellent run man 👍#250 Nice Video my friends 🤜🤛
Great build, and great Video! Thanks for sharing bro.
yea my buddy had a gen 7 and after the forth axle replace we scrapped it.
Gen7 and gen8 are two totally different platforms and cannot be lumped together into the same sentence.
Awsome vid love the old truck ,can’t find a bed , flat bed would look good.
Cool video and rigs!👌😎👍
I think you should just get the bed and finish making it a Chevy, Great video.

Good video good info the truck looks good fir the money

I never thought I'd consider it but I may get a Gen 8 for my daughter. I wish Axial did a divorced trans/transfer.
The esc/Rx thing is actually pretty good for $45 once you program it with a HW program card.
Our gen 8 sounds the same way, eats those brass pinions for lunch.
I think I'd spend the extra $100 and get the Axial between these 2. Better supported platform. I'd take the sweet custom body though off the Redcat. Looks awesome.
19:50 👆👍👍👌
I have the gen8 axe and I love it
I’ve thought about doing some molar thing gen8 pack is so cheap if u got extra stuff, to put in it!!
All your videos are great!!
Subbed!!
🤘
I'd like to see you build an old 1920's C-cab boom wrecker ratrod/hotrod truck. Or else a Willy's Jeep pickup or Wagon.
Great video!!!
My friend, excellent video, my respect from Venezuela.💯💯👍👊👊🤘🤘
Did they discontinue them? I have been looking everywhere for a PACK kit and cant find it :(
Not that I know of, I found this one on amazon. But it is unavailable too now.
Didn't redcat come out with portal axles first?
I think traxxas did it first lol
Is the Gen 8 PACK chassis identical to the chassis in the RTR version, or are there any upgraded parts?
From my understanding it was. But now the rtr gen8 is version 2. The green and purple bodied ones are updated. Unsure what changes they made.
@@RCeveryday Ah, I see. That's good to know about the green and purple ones being the updated ones. Very helpful. Thanks man!
Please build a vintage RC track loader type cat 955, Regards from Sweden
Axiall has a builder's kit to it's just about obsolete but it's around the same price non portal I have the version 1 and the version 2 and they both work more than well enough as far as the scale pickup truck goes they would kill anything on the street
Looks great bud..
At nearly half the price the redcat gen8 is hands down the winner, did everything the scx did sometimes better except for the dig.
No the gladiator won
i wouldnt mind running one

Haha. It’s what I call my scale course. Not a real place unfortunately. I’ve got a few acres north of antlers that I’m slowly making trails on.
@@RCeveryday hahaha right on. Great vid enjoy watchin always

Body slap an old Tonka or something else, keep the reused and budget friendly theme going.
Redcat has come a long way and as far as quality goes redact beats axial imo. Redcat will also run with the best of them.
try the toyota extra cab on it
Go with a proline power wagon body
I like the body that you got just build a flat bed and get some ear plugs. Cheers
Nice
The sound from the Redcat kills it for me I like a quiet drivetrain. Axial for the win in the not annoying department.
Nice video good👍👍😃😃💯💯
