Incredible music in the 90s
Thanks y’all for the memories 🤘🙏🏻☕️
Concrete Blonde .. Joey still has an aurora to it today . Prince did a song called the Morning Papers that is one my favorite of his . I dug Head Like A Hole NIN .
Great Topic! But how can some of y’all not like “Baby Got Back”? 🤣🤣🤣 Such a classic! I’ll really have to give it some time to cut my favs down to 10, but I definitely know Bell Biv DeVoe’s “Poison” has to be in there somewhere in my Top 10. Same with Notorious B.I.G.’s “Juicy”, “Diamonds And Pearls” by Prince and “Man In The Box” by Alice In Chains. I can play those songs any day of the week no matter what my mood is. ✌️

A couple of non-hair metal tunes I’ve always really liked and still do to this day are, The Way by Fastball and Cumbersome by Seven Mary Three. My guitar instructor back in the early 2000’s had a cover band and in addition to the classic 80’s metal stuff would toss a pop or rock song or two in his set so that’s what got me hooked on these tunes. The Way isn’t from the 90’s but it may as well have been with its pop oriented hook.
Im with Jay on picks of I dont care what people think. Im almost positive these were all 90s. (Seal: Crazy), (Duncan Sheik: Barely Breathing), (DC Talk: Between you and me), (Duran Duran: Come Undone & Ordinary world), (Jennifer Paige: Crush), (Richard Marx: Hazard & The way she loves me), (Sting: Desert Rose, Sting Fields of Gold), (Dream Theatre: Pull me under), (Roxette: Fading like a flower), (Steve Perry: You Better wait), (John Mellencamp: Wild Night), (Gin Blossoms: Found out about you), (Jon Secada: If You Go & Just another day), (Eric Clapton: My fathers eyes), (Brooks and Dunn: Neon Moon), (New Radicals: You get what you give), (The Wallflowers: One Headlight), (Matchbox Twenty: Real World), (Jesus Jones: Right here right now), (Eagle Eye Cherry: Save Tonight), (Third Eye Blind: Semi Charmed life), (Sawyer Brown: Some girls do), (Mariah Carey: Someday & Emotions), (John Anderson: Straight Tequila Night), (Fastball: The Way & Out of my head), (London Beat: Ive been thinkin about you), (Natalie Imbruglia: Torn) tons of good songs in the 90s
Oh ok so what your saying is that you have good taste in music. Nobody likes a show off man 😂. Just kidding. Cheers mate.

@@christopherplasse5101 Third Eye could uncork a pop rock anthem , stick in your head . Never Let You Go is insane catchy and their recent release , Again is another tackle box full of hooks ..
Hey Jealousy, misery, glycerine, the world i know, champagne supernova, the drugs dont work
Little crazy is a great song. I liked most of the songs u guys picked except maybe Baby got back.
Silver Chair! I played that for a good while. I would've mentioned Shotgun Messiah Violent New Breed and Ministry, Just one fix or Thieves.
Love Queen, saw them in 81 and that’s what started me playing!!
01. Queen - Innuendo (This album was a back to form for Queen. 70s Queen - esp. their first 5 albums - is the best in music for me. The song Innuendo has the spirit of these albums)
02. Alice In Chains - Would? (I always liked Grunge in the 90s as I liked (Hair-)Metal in the 80s or Prog-/Classic-Rock from the 70s. Would? is my favorite Grunge-Song)
03. Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence (one of the best pop-songs ever)
04. Megadeth - Holy Wars...The Punishment Due (the Thrash-Metal Opus)
05. Nirvana - Scentless Apprentice (this is a heavy, raw energy Grunge-Song)
Portishead - Wandering Star (I love the vibe of this song)
Björk - All Is Full Of Love (I don’t know why, but I really love the first 4 Björk- albums)
Radiohead - Paranoid Android (the alternative prog-song)
Oasis - Roll With It (Brit-Pop in perfection)
Nine Inch Nails - Mr. Self Destruct (together with the 3rd Shotgun Messiah-Album my gateway to industrial music)
Great show 🤘
couple of additions in no order:
1) misfits - dig up her bones
2) gin blossoms - until i fall away
3) prince - 7
4) the refreshments - mekong
5) nine inch nails - terrible lie
6) pet shop boys - bilingual
7) depeche mode - its no good
8) dishwalla- until i wake up ( a true masterpiece of songwriting)
9) stabbing westward - shame
10) soul asylum - misery
I just listened to that Dishwalla song--outside of their hit, never really listened to them. GREAT song. Damn. I also LOVE The Refreshments and Gin Blossoms. Great stuff, Brother
Queen's "I want it all" is from 1989's The Miracle.
Shit, I fucked that up
Sponge is still touring. I saw them a few years ago at a club. They r awesome!
new pop sunday had some incredible songs on it...1000 times is a gem.
The Flys- Got you where I want you...
When I first saw the title of the episode but hadn’t watched it yet, my mind just went to “not metal”, so I didn’t include Queensryche or Megadeth (favorite back then was “Sweating Bullets”, but new favorite is “Breadline”).
1. Matthew Ryan - “Guilty”
2. Cowboy Mouth - “Jenny Says”
3. The Origin - “Set Sails Free”
4. Candlebox - “Change”
5. Counting Crows - “A Murder of One”
6. Michael McDermott - “The Idler, The Prophet and a Girl Called Rain”
7. Del Amitri - “Be My Downfall”
8. Gin Blossoms - “Hey Jealousy”
9. Pearl Jam - “Black”
10. Sass Jordan - “Make You a Believer”
H.M.:
Matchbox 20 - “Push”
Tori Amos - “Silent All These Years”
Natalie Imbruglia - “Torn”
Midnight Oil - “Forgotten Years”
Mark Curry - “Wanna Run Away”
Dude. I fuckin' LOVE Matthew Ryan. Damn, such an underrated artist. Lot of good stuff here.
@ Wow! So glad to hear you know him, not many do. Enjoyed this discussion as while it was sad to see hair metal drop out of the mainstream, the 90s did bring a lot of variety that you all shared.
@ forgot to mention, knowing how you love to quote your favorite lyrics, the reason “Guilty” is an all-time favorite, not just 90’s, is because of the lyrics:
With a head full of soot, waving black flags
Throwing off the bodies just to cut down on the drag
Take ‘em to the desert or a dried well,
Tell ‘em they’re in Heaven and mutter “welcome to Hell”
I could pick 10 Oasis songs since I'm a huge fan. Love melodic music in general. Marilyn Manson had some great songs in the 90s too. Love that Collective Soul were mentioned. Awesome band. Dream Theater has a lot of great songs/albums in the 90s too. As far as alternative/grunge I love Radiohead, Live's albums "Throwing Copper" and "The Distance to Here", Bush, The Breeders, to name just a few. Pink Floyd's The Division Bell album which I love came out in the 90s too.
I can go all oasis, verve, suede, blur
Walking On The Sun- Smash Mouth
Steal My Sunshine- Len
Zoot Suit Riot- Cherry Poppin Daddies
You And Me And The Bottle Makes 3 Tonight- Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Mr. Vain- Culture Beat
Lick It- 20 Fingers
Bittersweet Symphony- The Verve
California Love- 2Pac
Personal Jesus- Depeche Mode
Deeper And Deeper- Madonna
Not gonna do a list but I did love a lot of pop. Shania Twain, Celine Dion, Brittney Spears, Whitney Houston, Michael Bolton and Gloria Estefan would have multiple songs I'd consider.
Dude... keep it down! You're saying this shit in public! Is someone forcing you to list this awful shit? Fuckin' with ya, Brother!
@@HairMetalGuru419 hahah it is what it is. 90s pop was peak.
Lit originally was a hair metal band of sorts called Razzle
The Verbpipe did that song in Rockstar as well Colorful was awesome
Hey, Sic Vikki in the comments. I was just listening to Kiss Me In French the other day. Good shit.
@ m3 this year man :)
Full devil jacket had some good music they never get mentioned
Soundgarden and Ministry were my 90’s goto bands
Devin Townsend Ocean Machine and all his other projects. Paw Dragline and Death to Traitors had lots of great songs as well.
Love paw. His new band is really good too. Godzillionaire
I Want it All is from The Miracle, not The Game
Yep. I fucked that up
I enjoyed it... and I like a lot of the choices I heard.
But y'all need a southern representative!
No mention at all of great southern artists like Tom Petty, Johnny Cash, Allman Bros., Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic, Cry of Love, and Arc Angels (all putting out some incredible stuff in the 90's).
Only one mention of The Black Crowes??? And Brian chose one of the least impressive Crowes songs (imo). And Guru dissed "Remedy"??? Really? One of my favorites and an all-time fun anthem! I'm crushed. lol
Also, if we're gonna put rap in here... "Jump Around" by House of Pain and "Sabotage" by the Beasties is the best the 90's had to offer (not Vanilla Ice and Sir Mix-a-Lot).
As I said, I like some of it, but most of the grunge and Goo Goo, Foo Foo stuff missed me.
Still a fun watch. Just goes to show how different we all are.
Keep rockin!
Mark T is off the chain
Dying machine is a great album
I have a ton of magazines fully intact & have been unloading piles of my stuff for free. I would love to send it to you sir. I trust that you will do them justice Hair Metal Guru…Do you have a P.O.Box? LET ME KNOW PLEASE SIR
