As a gringo tourist, I have been to Chile, Argentina and Ecuador multiple times. I have motorcycled most of the countries in South America and all of Centro America. I love visiting Chile. It is safe, calm and nice. And prices aren't all that different from less expensive parts of the USA. Argentina gives more for the dollar (on dolar blue). People seem more passionate and welcoming. Wine country is wonderful, and smaller scale than Chile. So you can visit small bodegas a lot easer. I bought land in Argentina, due to the prices. I hope Milei doesn't f it up.

Comparing climate, Santiago is better during the summer than Buenos Aires because is very hot during the day (30ªC+), but is also dry and temperature drops drastically during the night so it´s very pleasant being outdoors. During the winter I would prefer Buenos Aires, moderate cold during the day, just like Santiago, but not the freezing cold by night and dawn as in Santiago.

I have lived in both countries and things have been always changing, and especially now they will be much new developments to see since Milei really wants to take serious efforts in reshaping governance and economics (good bye to "free" services and subsidies)... BUT if these measures should lead to positive transformations, we will still have to wait for the results since the State is now totally broken. In Chile we have a similar issue, since the leftist government has been destroying the economy at a rapid pace, and also tolerating a non-controlled immigration which has brought a formerly unseen criminality... but it is very improbable that this government will be able to survive the next elections and probably a similar development as seen in Argentina will take place. In any case I totally disagree that Argentina (until now) was a better place for doing business, on the contrary, it had one of the highest tax burdens in the world, and one of the closest markets! (this will change now with Milei) At the other end of the spectrum, Chile has had one of the most liberal economic systems for years, with trade agreements with more than 160 nations... Eso es porque para el prestigio de un médico especialista es de gran valor presentarse como jefe de la especialidad X en un hospital público, o ser profesor titular en una universidad pública. Por otro lado por ser Argentina un país que recibió millones de inmigrantes de Europa, Medio Oriente e incluso cientos de miles de chilenos a lo largo de su historia (hoy residen 300.000 chilenos en Argentina pese a nuestros problemas económicos) los argentinos estamos acostumbrados a recibir a gente de todo el mundo y no hacemos diferencia ninguna entre un argentino y un extranjero. Jamás escucharás decir a un argentino, como he visto en videos a chilenos diciéndoles a un venezolano "aquí mandamos nosotros", eso sería impensado para un argentino descendiente de extranjeros. I have spent a lot of time in both countries. The answer to your question seems simple to me… People don’t like Chile because at least since Pinochet died it’s become a socialist hellhole despite the residual beneficial effects Pinochet’s capitalist reforms had on the place for years (aka God bless Henry Kissinger and the University of Chicago). On the other hand, Argentina is just administratively and governmentally effed up. Other than that the people are lovely, the country is lovely and students don’t run around, blowing up Walmart (in Chile called Lider) stores. As a gringo tourist, I have been to Chile, Argentina and Ecuador multiple times. I have motorcycled most of the countries in South America and all of Centro America. I love visiting Chile. It is safe, calm and nice. And prices aren't all that different from less expensive parts of the USA. Argentina gives more for the dollar (on dolar blue). People seem more passionate and welcoming. Wine country is wonderful, and smaller scale than Chile. So you can visit small bodegas a lot easer. I bought land in Argentina, due to the prices. I hope Milei doesn't f it up.

I have many European friends, and many do not know much about Chile, in other countries it sounds more like Argentina. Although Chile is more expensive, it is calmer and much more stable politically and economically.
Argentina DOES have earthquakes, it’s a big country, but just not in Buenos Aires. Quite frequently in the Cuyo area which is Mendoza and San Juan and San Luis provinces, on the west side of the country, in the same line of Santiago, Chile, with Andes mountains separating both earthquakes zones

También está la opción de alquilar directamente al dueño, se hace un contrato legal, pero no interviene la inmobiliaria. No es lo que más abunda, pero se encuentra, sobre todo en el interior. Allí te pedirán sólo el recibo de sueldo o del ingreso que tengas.

In any case I totally disagree that Argentina (until now) was a better place for doing business, on the contrary, it had one of the highest tax burdens in the world, and one of the closest markets! (this will change now with Milei) At the other end of the spectrum, Chile has had one of the most liberal economic systems for years, with trade agreements with more than 160 nations... (this however has deteriorated with the actual leftist government) In any case both countries are very rich and have a very interesting potential, far better than other countries in the region. Ahora que en Argentina tenemos un nuevo gobierno tenemos esperanzas que lo económico comenzará a mejorar, aunque llevará un tiempo, todos estamos haciendo un sacrificio para ello.
En Argentina la educación es no arancelada (gratis) para todos, argentinos o no argentinos, lo mismo sucede con la salud, puedes paga un seguro de salud de los más caros pero esos mismos médicos te atenderán en un Hospital Público sin pagar absolutamente nada, incluso personas que ni siquiera tiene residencia legal en Argentina. Eso es porque para el prestigio de un médico especialista es de gran valor presentarse como jefe de la especialidad X en un hospital público, o ser profesor titular en una universidad pública. Por otro lado por ser Argentina un país que recibió millones de inmigrantes de Europa, Medio Oriente e incluso cientos de miles de chilenos a lo largo de su historia (hoy residen 300.000 chilenos en Argentina pese a nuestros problemas económicos) los argentinos estamos acostumbrados a recibir a gente de todo el mundo y no hacemos diferencia ninguna entre un argentino y un extranjero. Jamás escucharás decir a un argentino, como he visto en videos a chilenos diciéndoles a un venezolano "aquí mandamos nosotros", eso sería impensado para un argentino descendiente de extranjeros. Obvio que Chile está económicamente mejor que Argentina, es innegable, pero nosotros hacemos sentir a los extranjeros como uno de nosotros.

Para la vida no hay diferencia, tendrá el mismo acceso a la educación y a la salud siendo ciudadano que residente. Para emprender, es un momento complicado. En Chile la pobreza se mide con otros parámetros, si usaran los parámetros que se usan en Argentina, la pobreza en Chile sería del 33% según estudios serios. Además Chile es el país más desigual de LATAM y los pobres no tienen movilidad social, naces pobre y morís pobre. Que uds hayan tenido unos años de estabilidad económica, eso no los hace mejores. Me hacen reír cuando por ejemplo hacen comparaciones; dicen cosas como "nuestro metro es mucho más moderno que el de Buenos Aires", pero se olvidan de decir que nosotros disfrutamos del metro desde hace 70 años ANTES de uds, tenés que sumar esa parte para comparar. Se comportan como nuevo rico, pero cuando tienen una catástrofe natural, como terremotos, somos los argentinos los que hacemos colectas para ayudar a la extrema pobreza en Chile que se manifiesta abruptamente y que estaba oculta, mientras en Chile se dedicaban a saquearse las pertenencias entre uds y los ricos miraban para otro lado. I have spent a lot of time in both countries. The answer to your question seems simple to me… People don’t like Chile because at least since Pinochet died it’s become a socialist hellhole despite the residual beneficial effects Pinochet’s capitalist reforms had on the place for years (aka God bless Henry Kissinger and the University of Chicago). On the other hand, Argentina is just administratively and governmentally effed up. Other than that the people are lovely, the country is lovely and students don’t run around, blowing up Walmart (in Chile called Lider) stores. I don’t really care how effed up Argentina is because I have hard currency. And I just avoid all of the stupid manifestations de los pobres y los sindicatos. ¡Viva la libertad carajo!
