Another great video. Actually, I did like the music and it really accompanied perfectly the nice views and sites. What were the round towers used for in their prime time? Are all areas in shannon river suitable for a swim and Is it worth spending the night at Devinish Island?
Thanks for that Mark 1. The round towers had several uses, they were primarily bell towers to call people to mass, but they were also a status symbol to show the power of the monks at that time. They also were a good secure place to keep valuables, although they didn't out wit the Vikings that well. I suppose if you's sailed all the way from Denmark a round tower isn't going to stop you. You'd just starve the inhabitants out. I think all the islands make a really nice overnight stop. I always check the wind direction and try to chose one that's in the lee.

Certainly is safe, and very peaceful too. The moorings are quite good as well 👍
