🤓 Hair Stylist / Salon Owner here- Thank you for this insightful post. I really enjoy your vlogs. The value given to personal services varies widely even within the US. This is true both in pricing & in the perceived worth of these types of services. ("I don't go to the salon often, I'm not that vain." 😆 ) Operational costs (rent, utilities, supplies, products, wages, ) also differ greatly geographically. Consider that it costs me upwards of $20 in products to complete a basic color service in the US. Experience & training are also factors. A US cosmetology program may be completed at a local community college or at a $40K a year institution. (The quality of instruction differs too 😉.) Likewise, post-certification training also varies widely in the US. I assisted a master stylist for 3 years at minimum wage. However, many newly certified stylists go directly to work & hone their skills via trial and error 😳. In general, I agree that gli Italiani do value personal services more than Americans. Ogni italiano vuole fare bella figura! It is a complicated issue with both cultural values & operational costs at play. (For myself -my rates when working in Italy are the same as in the US. )

I really think we pay way too much for haircuts and color here in the USA.
Sometimes I can’t believe how much it can cost!
