@@annmarieoliverie7526Can Venlafaxine cause insomnia and agitation in Bipolar? I'm using a dose of 150mg and at night I feel very sleep deprived, having to take Trazodone or Zolpidem to get to sleep. I also use Lamotrigine and have never had any problems, but I noticed that since I started using Venlafaxine, I feel more activated and have insomnia at night.

I quit taking venlafaxine 75 mg cold turkey 6 months ago. At one time I had my doctor raise it another 1/2, so I was taking 75 mg and a 37.5 mg. I quit taking it for four months and had to get back on for several years. 6 months ago I quit cold turkey taking that, low dose of hydrochloride, and a low dose of a statin.
Was thinking I’d go back on the Effexor because waking up with anxiety but after reading all this I don’t feel safe! Is there a safer anti anxiety medication you suggest. I’m not certain my GP knows what he’s talking about 😢

I've been on 75mg for nearly a year i think, and it's been effective at chilling me out. If i miss a day however, i feel dizzy and get headaches the following day. One side effect you didn't mention is the vivid dreams, particularly nightmares. I don't fully wake up from them either, it's more like being half asleep and many of the dreams revolve around questioning reality. Sertraline just made me flat and fluoxitine did nothing for me.

First of all I'm 71, work out, walk everywhere, good blood pressure etc. My ENT prescribed Venlafaxine 37.5 mg for my Vestibular Migraine that came out of nowhere. He said take it for 2 weeks. I took one at 10am and by Noon my Vertigo was 80% gone. I thought cool.. 2am the next morning I woke up with a blinding headache, and I don't get headaches. But I did read on Web MD you might want to watch your Blood Pressure if you take this. So I decided to take my Blood pressure. 196/121. Yeah off to the Emergency room I went.
I realize different medications can work differently in different people.. Just a Heads up.

The same think happened to me and I was 40! Always had normal blood pressure until they put me on this drug. It is a double edge sword since it got me better emotionally, but the long term physical side effects were dangerous. I have been on venlafaxine for around 10 years, i am 30 now, i gave up on it for an year or so and then the symptoms came back and had to go back on it.
Also, i have noticed that the difference between prolonged and short absorption, is that the prolonged one gives me sugar cravings meanwhile the short absorption just gives me nausea for few minutes after taking it and that's it.
However. no i am trying for the N time to come off it, even if is small dosage, i still have brain zips and muscular pains.
Last time when i was off it, i had insomnia for 6 months, couldn't sleep more than 2 hours, which made me go back on it soon enough.
Truly i don't know anymore who i am because i seem a different person without Venlafaxine.

@sonamwangmo5012 still didn't manage to cut it off completely.
I'm taking like 1/4 of 37.5. Otherwise, I get dizzy, and it is a weird type of dizziness. Like I'm spinning for a fraction of sec, and then everything is alright. But it happens multiple times if I miss the dose.
The secret is to give yourself, implicitly your brain, time to heal and get used to the new normality.

It might be good to alert people to post ssri/snri sexual dysfunction (PSSD). This condition is not rare and can occur with as little as a few days use of an antidepressant. The symptoms include numb genitals, erectile dysfunction, inability to orgasm and loss of libido. Non-sexual symptoms include loss of ability to feel emotion of any kind - complete numbness. These symptoms continue indefinitely after the medication has been stopped and there is no cure. Patients should have this information to enable them to make an informed decision about whether to take an antidepressant or to opt for non-drug options.

He dropped my 30mg of Cymbalta to zero and said “you’ll be fine mate” and I went into horrific withdrawals. The first 18 months were the worst. Not one of the 14 gp’s I investigated believed me. I knew what had happened to me from research and wanted to see how bad the situation is. I was gob smacked at the reaction from very educated doctors. Crazy how they either don’t know or they are in denial. We are in very dangerous times. I truely believe the most dangerous drug dealers on the planet are GP’s.

I have been on this drug for pretty much 15 years with occasional switches to other antidepressants but I'm back on venlafaxine within 6 mths. The side effects I can put up with as it's better than the alternative. Withdrawals are absolutely horrendous! Which I keep being forced to go through due to my pharmacist forgetting to order or having no stock. So I will have to suddenly stop taking it and then withdrawal until my medication is available, I have waited 8 days before, and then I have to restart taking it again. I wouldn't mind so much if it was nkw and then but this has happened to me repeatedly since last summer and it's affecting not only my mental health but also my physical health.
I just wanted to add that from my own experience I found the side effects were much worse if I took them on an empty stomach. I also stick to set times also otherwise my emotions cycle rapidly (I have MDD, BPD, OCD and GAD to name the front running disorders 😂).

If an anti depressant is working don't stop it before 12 months. It's proven taking it for 12 months instead of a shorter period reduce the risk of getting depression again by a huge factor. Paxil also need to be added to the list for very bad discontinuation syndrome symptoms. Serotonin syndrome usually happens when you take 2 or more anti depression drugs at the same time.

Make sure to check for route causes that may be overlooked. This tends to be the case when people have tried "every" med. Something else is wrong, depression is the symptom not the disease.

Protracted antidepressant withdrawal is deadly I think I have the most severe mental symptoms since I read many people stories. I have extremely severe intrusive racing thoughts. Severe flasback thoughts and images from childhood memories till now. Weird feeling. Hyper sensitive to every thought and sensation. Hyperawarness. Combined with severe depression and derealization and 24/7 hypersalivation with panick and cognitive impairment, brain fog attacks, I feel like I am the strongest person in the planet

Works well, but I have nasty side effect, nausea, on all mg versions until 75 mg, I usually take 75 mg, 160 mg does not provoke nausea but has the side effect of rising a lot my blood pressure, and my behavior tends to be more aggressive, never tried beyond that . I stopped taking fluoxetine to take this one, for at least 6 years now. Tried to leave it for 2 months but the withdrawal was abysmal, was as bad as like I was drowning in sorrow.

Can you please please do a video on taking effexor with ADHD meds. I am taking 50 mg of Vyvanse every morning, with 10 mg of Adderall as a booster in the afternoon and have been put on 75 mg of effexor recently. After reading some of the dangers of this mixture it makes me wonder if my doctor made a wrong choice. Can you please do the video on it.

Alternatively, you can always discuss a cross taper to sertraline.

I met someone who is taking 225 mg of Venlafaxine and also takes the highest Valium and 75 mg Xanax, should I be concerned? I noticed they have major mood swings which is a bit scary. I concerned this person isn't properly taking medication.

I'm taking Venlafaxine for over 10 years now. Will it be difficult to come off after that long time? I tried 2 times already but the withdrawals were so so bad so I always ended up taking it again. You also mentioned it's normally taken for 6months to 1 year. Is it normal that I have been on it for 10 years?

I had to join a Facebook support group because my doctor tried to take me off it too quickly, I had to break open the capsules and weigh them and reduce 10% a month, and the withdrawals were manageable

    My questions
    1. It affects my sleep. What can I do? I take it in the am as it is.
    2. Do people sleep better in immediate release formula?
    3. Does it cause weight gain?
    4. If you get a cold, which cold medicine is safe?
