Nice one. I asked for Tony Knowles a few months ago. He was my favourite player growing up in the 80’s! He was ranked as high as #2 in the 1984/85 season. This is brilliant. You’re getting stories which up to now have probably never been told from snooker’s heyday in the 80’s. The black ball final between Davis & Taylor in 1985 was watched by similar viewing figures that watch World Cup football matches. That’s how big snooker was in the 80’s!
Stephen, you were my idol growing up, I always wanted to say to you, I know things get to you more than you let on. One thing I know that gets to you is your record being beaten, if or when your record gets beaten remember this, no matter how many they get, it will never be as important to me as your record, you and your record were some of the best moments from my growing up and I will never forget. And the living legend from my youth is still around for me to watch!! I thank you for being you. Much love ❤ Stephen Hendry ❤️
I remember when I was about 10 years old, in ‘85 Tony came to play an exhibition at a social club in Wallasey, the 27 Club. It was a brilliant packed night, everyone wanted a photograph with him. I’ve still got my photo with Tony and others, his face was absolutely covered in lipstick all colours. The women in the room after a few drinks mobbed him. He stayed till the early hours and probably spent his fee behind the bar. Always remember him from that night as a cracking fella. Great video as always.
Tony is the classic example of what Steve Davis once said - the only way to get better at snooker, is to play loads of snooker. You can tell if he hasn't played for a while, and by heck, you can tell when he's playing week-in week-out! When he's in his rhythm, he still scores as well as he ever did - and his safety game now is up there with the best. Long may it continue, hope you keep playing in everything Tony and loving this beautiful sport!
This is good. You can tell how much Hendry respects these players from the early 80's, even though he is the best player ever (alongside Mr O'S) makes no difference. Tony Knowles great player and character, enjoy these stories, the players today are better yes, but they know they have a lot to to thank for the old school , great stuff 👍
Another fantastic interview from Stephen Hendry, considering how disliked by many he was because of his 90s dominance you can see his natural persona shine through. Would love to see Terry Griffiths on the show
Love how he stops talking as you take your shot.. exactly how it should be. 👌🏼 Ask Tony if he remembers Stockport Masters Club and Paul Medati.. and say Geoff Sleight says hello 😁 ... oh and Giant Haystacks' son Jim Lewis! 😁
My father told me Tony Knowles and Shakin Stevens were the same person. I used to think the guy that sang Merry Christmas Everyone was a snooker player for a few years when I was a kid.
I love some of the detailed observations that only a good snooker player would really spot - like the length of Knowles' follow-through. It's just not something I've ever been aware of or thought about before - it's probably all I'll notice now. 😂
Dave Martin was a blast from the past. I played him once and beat him when I was 16 in Newcastle. It was only one frame and I got a start but not that much. I think he was from nearby Durham or Darlington. Next time I saw him was in the Mercantile Credit Classic when he beat Jimmy White. I wasn't a bad player back then but I had no bottle. I made a century at 13 but nerves took over and it went downhill from the age of 16. The old Lager didn't help matters either.
Sir Stephen, is a great host, interviewer, lovely man, who would be a great friend, to many, greatest snooker player of all time, with Ronnie, the sport misses him terribly.
Tony was a pal of mine in the 90s, the Churchill bar in Bo Ness windermere was or still is his pub, me and my mate done the doors a few times, tony was a good guy but could be a bit temperamental , another pal of ours was the Bar manager for a while, good to see him looking well
It be great to see hendry go an do a club league an see how he gets on. Make a nice little side series to these. Play a doubles league with break from life would be good to see aswell
1983 second round World championship Tony beat 2nd favourite Ray Reardon 13-12 in one of the greatest matches I have seen to this day. Reardon was about 7 years past his best but it was still a fair upset. Ray should have won really but was unlucky with an in off.
I remember the match. Knowles in the build up talked about how he was going to bury "the prince of darkness". Reardon had back to back tons and yes was unlucky to lose.
Tony Knowles and Stephen Hendry played 5 times back in the day , Hendry won 3 matches vs. Tony's 2 matches. Great to hear Tony share his stories from back in the day 😀.
I sold a full size snooker table once ,when the clubs were closing down and they were ten a penny ,50 quid I paid and it as already in storage and immaculate ,Offered it to a few local clubs to double my money but was told “no one wants em “ unbelievable imagine that on Xmas morning in the garden ,Anyway put it on eBay ,two guys from Lake District. Offered me £250 ,n I took it .They drove down to Lancashire in a Bedford rascal, like summat out of max n paddy ,I said “I think your your gonna need a bigger boat ,that slate ul pop ya tyres .What were they thinking 🥴.Told the bloke I bought it off for 50 quid I got it sold and he were gutted ,said he only sold it me cause he thought I’d be stuck with it ,he’d been trying to get shut of it for ages that’s why it was so cheap 😆
I met Tony Meo when Terry Griffiths and I were at a tv studio in London in the 80's. Steve Davies was also there, along with Barry Hearn. I recall Tony saying to me, ' I'm a born loser me'. I urged him to keep plugging and very soon afterwards he did win a big tournament, but, seemingly, having proved to himself that he could do it, all but threw in the towel thereafter. Crazy, because he was a great player. I must say, he was a very charming man. Perhaps he needed to be more egotistical to carry on for longer. I think Tony Knowles was number 2 in the world for a while.
The GOAT Ronnie 23 Majors 🐐 Hendry 20 Majors Davis 14 Majors Judd 4 Majors LMFAO!!!! Not like Judd Trump became a professional snooker player in the last shower of rain Hahahahaha Hahahahaha Hahhahahaha
Why Stephen did you interview him when hes pissed? Lol so tony what did you think about steve davis? I was chalking my q and anyway i won as everton beaton Bolton in the game....wtf? Lol
I always see Judd play with 60 % luck and 40 % ability.. on the other hand watch how much better Ronnie & Hendry play? They are far far better. That's why they are the two most successful players in the history of snooker
at 18:00 it reminds me of Henry Cooper boring everyone to tears about how he almost knocked out Muhammed Ali. He sounds like Dave from "The Royles", but after four pints.
Hendry is TH-camr of the year for me. Never thought I'd say that, but he's a great host who manages to keep the conversations flowing
He’s very good at it .👏🏻👏🏻
He gets my vote as well
Agreed
not easy with tony espesially when hes drunk
happy days I'm drunk watching this I thought he'd developed dementia
Another great 80’s Legend! When snooker was at its greatest!
Nice one. I asked for Tony Knowles a few months ago.

Great to see Tony. Was one of my favourite players back in the 80's.Remembered seeing him and Steve Davis at an exhibition at the spectrum arena.
He's pissed here
I remember when I was about 10 years old, in ‘85 Tony came to play an exhibition at a social club in Wallasey, the 27 Club. It was a brilliant packed night, everyone wanted a photograph with him. “Broke a million hearts, on and off the table” 😂
Ha
First think I thought of 😂
A million and one
Not sure what they saw in him.
I suppose compared to davis, dennis taylor and terry Griffiths he was like george clooney!!@clivebond7858
Remember " A Round with Allis", then this is " A Frame With Hendry", great way to interview someone and makes it more interesting.
Tony is the classic example of what Steve Davis once said - the only way to get better at snooker, is to play loads of snooker. Great video Stephen. Need more of these with former top players. Wasn’t a fan of Tony’s when he played but seeing him here he seems a top bloke
RIP Mark Wildman. Not many of the old guard left. Rex Williams, Virgo. Can’t think of anyone else.
I love watching a Hendry break. Such a good looking player. Ronnie is amazing but in a different way. I wish Stephen could get back to it.
This is good. You can tell how much Hendry respects these players from the early 80's, even though he is the best player ever (alongside Mr O'S) makes no difference. Tony Knowles great player and character, enjoy these stories, the players today are better yes, but they know they have a lot to to thank for the old school , great stuff 👍
tony tights, we used to call him.
see if mike hallett or steve james, are still knocking about. both blasts from the past
if I rememder Mike had a stroke a few years back and lost all movement down his right side , dont know how he is doing nowadsys
Lovely video - Stephen brought out Tony's best qualities: humility, and an ability to analyse some the psychology of the game.
Another fantastic interview from Stephen Hendry, considering how disliked by many he was because of his 90s dominance you can see his natural persona shine through. Would love to see Terry Griffiths on the show
Great to hear from Tony another 80's legend and he still has a great head of hair even at 60 plus
and a hairstyle that wouldn't be out of place on Game of Thrones.
what a legend!
Like to see Kirk Stevens next. He was a bit of a maverick with his ice-cream suits 😅
What a legend. Love Tony Knowles!
Love how he stops talking as you take your shot.. exactly how it should be. 👌🏼
Ask Tony if he remembers Stockport Masters Club and Paul Medati.. and say Geoff Sleight says hello 😁 ... oh and Giant Haystacks' son Jim Lewis! 😁
He’s wearing bloody well , great vid Stephen
'The Sun wanted me aa a Shakin Stevens lookalike" - Classic!
My father told me Tony Knowles and Shakin Stevens were the same person. I used to think the guy that sang Merry Christmas Everyone was a snooker player for a few years when I was a kid.
Shaky Knowles ! Enjoyed that
I love some of the detailed observations that only a good snooker player would really spot - like the length of Knowles' follow-through. It's just not something I've ever been aware of or thought about before - it's probably all I'll notice now. 😂
he missed a trick not asking him how long his follow through was on the page 3 girl.
Mark Williams popping up was a nice suprise
Be better if it was STEPHEN LEE randomly popping up.
Willo current favourite player. What a guy!
Would have been if I hadn't seen your comment first
@@larwhelan 😂😂😂
Wow totally unrecognizable but what a legend of the 80s that on his day could push anyone!!
Absolute Legend - Great Interview
Not seen Tony for years but he still looks good Stephen your channel is brilliant well done
What a treat! Go on TK!

Well handled Stephen. Great content
Sir Stephen, is a great host, interviewer, lovely man, who would be a great friend, to many, greatest snooker player of all time, with Ronnie, the sport misses him terribly.
Close your eyes and think of Fred dibnah
That’s the key with Stevland is Hendry’s confidence to move, cue, even spk the key is Hendry’s confidence
TK still living off beating Davis in ‘82 but who cares, what a lifestyle he had and still looking good on it pushing 70.
Fucking legend
Another great episode Stephen, could you possibly get my hero Kirk Stevens on please, I'm sure he would have some stories to tell 👍👍
Thought he might of mentioned 83 semi final v Thorburn he was A couple of pots away from setting up A rematch v Davis from 82.
Love the content stevie
i remember tony, wore a velvet waistcoat, great player back in the day...
Love Tony ❤️
Tony was a pal of mine in the 90s, the Churchill bar in Bo Ness windermere was or still is his pub, me and my mate done the doors a few times, tony was a good guy but could be a bit temperamental , another pal of ours was the Bar manager for a while, good to see him looking well
Makes me smile how Hendry gets the amazing guests, then gets all competitive and we hardly see his guest play a shot🤣🤣🤣🤣
Could you make a video on your highest break without chalk???
loved the 80's no where near as good now
Mark Williams comment of the year, classic
It be great to see hendry go an do a club league an see how he gets on. Make a nice little side series to these. Play a doubles league with break from life would be good to see aswell
Get Dominic Dale on the Channel!
1983 second round World championship Tony beat 2nd favourite Ray Reardon 13-12 in one of the greatest matches I have seen to this day. Reardon was about 7 years past his best but it was still a fair upset. Ray should have won really but was unlucky with an in off.

Reardon had back to back tons and yes was unlucky to lose.
It's time for both Quinten Hann & Stephen Lee to make their debuts on the channel.
22.43 welsh snooker legend appears, arise sir lee walker.
Tony, was always busy with his cue and balls in the 80s!
lol
Before this guy opened his mouth, I was convinced Stephen was about to play snooker with Barry Gibb from the Bee Gees.
I think the channel needs a snooker style ‘bleep’ after this 😂 like a ball hitting the back of a pocket noise or something
I respect him. But I can’t be the only one that noticed he just took over Hendry’s break?!
Don’t think ‘Holy Mary’ would fancy him now!!!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Tony sounds pissed
Yeah, I thought he sounded like he was half-cut.
Tony Knowles and Stephen Hendry played 5 times back in the day , Hendry won 3 matches vs. Tony's 2 matches. Great to hear Tony share his stories from back in the day 😀.
He would be a good commentator
I'm feeling so old now Stephen is 55 and Tony Knowles is 69 years old
Hes pissed here tony 😂🍻
Couple of swallies down Tony's neck before filming here methinks...

sounds like he's had a few
What a character Knowles was, once Ronnie retires Snooker is finished all robots now. Gone are the days of the characters in the game.
No Q&A?
Knowles has interesting stories hendry appears to be more concerned about his own shots
Ronnie makes fun of Tony how he is always saying how good he once was. I get it now 😂
Is Tony Knowles Hendry’s new coach?
Great pod Stephen. Can you get Xintong on? Hes such a likeable guy im sure he will be back on the main tour soon.
Brilliant
Hendry seems to go on a lot about how attacking he used to be but that wasn’t necessarily the case
Mark Williams making a sneaky appearance 😂
Great channel, very enjoyable post
Let your guests talk Hendry

I always liked Tony but never really rated him as a player. :)

@@WayneAnthonyHolmes-k6t how did Ronnie get on today in the first round?
@@stu2333 How did Hendry get on against Ronnie in the 13 finals they played? How many times Hendry kiss ROSA$$ in those 13 finals? 9 times 👍

Toni "heartbreaker" Knowles
1:32 that was a foul he doubled touch the cue ball
Still got a great head of hair
What’s the craic with Tony wearing 2 Watches ..
Safety shot?.... left him on for an easy red next to the pack haha
Did Tony spend too many nights with Guns n Roses in the late 80s?
This seemed a struggle for Stephen haha
Tony’s smashed
Or should I call him Frank
Tony Knowles looks like he should be in the Bee Gees
Still No Mark Selby? 😐
So anyway, I ended up winning the whole tournament
Tonys had a few beers
He beat Miles in the next round
They played 5 times
