I loved family affair as a child, as an adult, I found it again and binge watched the entire series, each year. Now that my vision is gone, I still listen to it. Love Jody, forever!
Two of the cutest kids ever to grace a TV screen. I'm glad that drugs weren't able to destroy both of them. The death of Anissa Jones was tragic and was VERY sad for me, when I heard about it in 1976. I loved the show as a kid, and I'm still a fan. I'm SO glad that Johnny is doing well, and so glad to see that he used his experience in the dark times to help others.
Unfortunatly, this TV show brings back some sad memories for me. I was 13 at the time and living with my Grandmother in Newcastle Australia, it was July 1969 and she had been ill over the past week spending most of the time in her bed. Family Affair aired on NBN Channel 3 at 7:30pm on Friday evening, I had settled onto the sofa to watch and out of her bedroom came my Grandma looking a lot better. She sat in her rocker chair and said "Oh, Family Affair, I love this show..." within a few minutes she had what I thought were spasms and I called out to my dad, who also lived with us and he carried her back to her bed where she passed away. I was told the next day it was a heart attack. She was 69yo. I was the last to speak to her during one of her favourite shows. Funny that this pops up in July in my TH-cam feed...
As a kid, I saw Johnny Whitaker on so many shows. He was everywhere it seemed. I loved how he, as Jody, along with Anissa Jones, as Buffy, would say, "Uncoh Beeyoh!" Lol
i'm 55 and i'm addicted to watching Family Affair. i had vaguely remembered it from my childhood. i think one of the many reasons i love these older shows is because it takes me back, gets me away from the here and now. i miss my childhood days and how things were back then. so much is wrong in the world now. it's sad
If you didn't know any better you would have thought that him and Buffy was brother and sister in real life cuz they look alike they both have freckles and their hair colors look almost the same
@@elizabethbowie9753 I believe that Anissa was younger than that because she was missing her top two front teeth during the first year of the show.. That usually happens when a child is around six years old..
Hurray for Johnnie! I'm so glad he took something bad and now uses it to help others following his footsteps! I remember the moment I learned about Annisa's death. How terribly sad that we lost her so soon! I LOVED A Family Affair and never missed an episode! It was one of the few shows on tv that I could watch without my parents complaining about its content.
I was born 1956. Yes I watched Family affair growing up. My favorite episode that I remember was when Mr French, Jody and Buffy was stranded in a hurricane in Puerto Rico. All Mr French had was an apple and a chocolate bar. He managed to make a gourmet made meal out of it for the twins and he went hungry.
Johnny's performance in *The Littlest Angel* (1969) is nothing short of astonishing. This is a full-fledged musical with terrific songs by Lan O'Kun, and a star-studded cast including Fred Gwynne, Cab Calloway, E.G. Marshall, John McGiver, Tony Randall, George Rose, Connie Stevens, and James Coco, directed by Broadway's Joe Layton.
I met both Buffy and Jody as a child. He was very kind not spoiled. A nice kid. I am happy to see he is enjoying life now. It is a tough business especially for children.
He played Tom Sawyer in a movie written and directed by Richard and Robert Sherman of Disney Fame. The opening scene and song sung by Charlie Pride is a favorite.
That movie came out in the summer of 73. My brother Terence was 9 at the time. We used to summer at my grandparents beach house out in East Hampton LI. Anywho we go into town one evening & there are all these young girls pointing at him & saying It’s Tom Sawyer! He had that big mop of curly dirty blonde hair.
I'm glad someone besides me remembers one of his biggest roles besides Family Affair I kept waiting for you to talk about Tom Sawyer as I think it was his best role ever. He and I are are a year apart so I grew up with Family Affair, Tom Sawyer and Sigmund and the Sea Monster and knew about his struggles later. I'm glad he got things turned around and is helping others to overcome theirs as well. Johnny if by some chance you see this I always loved you and so happy that life is going well for you, many blessings to you 💕

I know he went through some difficult years with the drinking and drugs but it sounds like he had a better foundation compared to a lot of childhood actors. He turned that dark part of his life into something positive and I'm glad to see that he is doing very well. 🙂 Still working🙂
I truly enjoy watching reruns of Family Affair it was one of my all-time favorite t.v. shows as a child. He was always such a delight to watch, such a sweet kid, such an impressive actor.

In 1973 Johnny played in a musical film version of TOM SAWYER. One of my favorites! 'Becky Thacher' was played by Jodi Foster and 'Huck Finn' was played by Jeff East who also played a young 'Clark Kent' in the 1978 original SUPERMAN.
I grew up watching Johnny, Buffy, Mr. French et. all. I enjoyed Johnny in Family Affair in many other of the roles mentioned. I remember holding my Mrs. Beasley doll and watching Family Affair as a very young child with my mother and my father was off at war. I loved Sigmund and the Sea Monsters too and remember all of his performances on tv. Great memories from my childhood.
I loved the show too. Unfortunately, for me the show was not relatable at all. That's why I was mesmerized by it -- the way the father talked to and interacted with his children -- my mother was completely uninvolved in my life, she wouldn't even talk yo us.

I met Johnny in 1977. He came to our Ward building (LDS Chapel) to speak to the youth. I'm just a wee bit older then him btw. This was in Anaheim, CA so not far from his home. He actually signed my year book! Always appreciated him making time for us. Glad he's well!
It's on at 8am on my side of the planet. For me, it's a blast from the past and a wonderful but brief escape to a place where Brian "Uncle Bill," Anissa "Buffy," and Sebastian "Mr. French," live on in a simpler place and time from days gone by. RIP💔
@@angelasmith3967 Did you see this morning's epi where Jody "acts out" to get Uncle Bill to show his love for him by "socking him" on his behind? Cute epi, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit that it triggered me. My parents never equated punishment as their way of showing their love for me. If anything, it was to the contrary. Incurring their wrath, being yelled at, and getting whipped with a belt (and then later a switch after I grew older), I never once equated any of it with love. Classic show, watched from the beginning episodes till it went off the air. Whitaker had a lot of roles, but the one I remembered him most for was The Littlest Angel when it appeared on TV for the first time in '69.
I remember him describing in an interview how one of his parents informed that it was his earnings that had bought the family home and sent at least one sibling to college - clearly misuse of his own money.
I remember watching this show when I was a kid on new Zealand TV' it's amongst my earliest memories ' the good old day's 'it seems like about a hundred years ago.good memories.

Great to see he's doing well and overcame drugs and alcohol. Very unfortunate Anissa didn't overcome her addiction. I enjoyed watching Family Affair in the late 60s/early 70s. I'm 5 month's older than Johnny, so he was close to my age when he was performing in Family Affair and other shows.
I DID! I was confused bc I thought of Jody as a girl's name. //I wanted to grow up to be a teen exactly like Cissy//I was extremely envious that my friend had her very own Mrs. Beasley doll. All I had was a coloring book featuring all the cast & such.
I discovered it's back on a local retro channel with 2 episodes a day. I time my late breakfast and break from stressful workday to escape to 1960's childhood bliss 😄
Had the chance to meet Johnny Whitaker last month in Orinda, California at Krofft Kon Great Guy! It was a thrill being able to get a chance to meet a cast member of one of my favorite movies Disney's The Snowball Express.
I was a big fan of the Show Family Affair. It was a good Wholesome show about a Bachelor who became an over Night Parent to his Brothers Children. Buffy and Jody were So cute as the twins, and Cissy Was their teenaged sister. It had real charm in the show and a very Handsome Uncle Bill Played by Brian Keith. I also Loved Sebastian Cabot as Mr. French who took care of the Children when Uncle Bill was away on Business Trips. It's Sad to know that Anissa who Played Buffy Davis took her own Life at aged 18. We will always Have the Reruns of Family Affair to take us back To a simpler time in America When Families had Values and Children were disciplined with Love.
I love Johnny Whitaker I'm saying him now in his sixties and listening to what he's overcome and the wonderful things and he's doing with respect to the 12-step program and helping people overcome addiction that just makes him more of an angel in my eyes and I think it's wonderful he's a wonderful human being and I have nothing but respect for him. We grew up practically neighbors hearing that he was from Van Nuys because I was raised in Studio City which is just a hop skip and a jump away from where he was brought up. Being involved in the 12-step program myself N.A. I heard about him before and what he was doing with regard to that and I think it's wonderful the way he's giving back and helping people. I'm so uplifted since I saw this video. I still watch Family Affair all the time
I grew up watching Family Affair and Sigmund and the Sea Monster. I never knew played a young Scott Baldwin on GH! He was the most adorable little boy.
I was born in 1966. Watched Family Affair in reruns. Loved that show. One of the very few TV shows we were allowed to watch. As Sigmund and the sea moster was a Saturday staple, Watched that too. The littlest angle was a great roll for him.
I did grow up watching Family Affair (I can even still hum the entire theme song). I am the same age as Johnny. I thought Buffy and Jody were the cutest kids. I am very sad that Anissa Jones lost her life so young. Such a tragedy.

Congratulations Johny keep It One Day at a Time. I saw your early career as it unfolded. I was born in 1957 and I have to admit every character I saw you as your name to me was Jody.
I had no idea Johnny, and I were about the same age, I was 5 when this show hit the tv. I'm sure I've seen every episode at some point or another. What a tragedy it was when we all heard the news about Buffy, Mary Anissa Jones, passing in 1971 at the young age of 18. I loved the show, and will look for it after this reminder, thanks Facts Verse! 👍✌

Thanks for such beautiful memories Johnny!- All the best to you, wherever you are, whatever you do! 🤗💖🍀🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦🖖🏻
Never actually watched "The Littlest Angel," but we had the soundtrack on LP vinyl, and I wore holes in it when I was a kid, cuz I listened to it so much!
I know Johnny from high school, he was always encouraging of my sax playing. His parents house was on the same street as mine! A great guy all the way around!!!💜💜💜
It would be nice. They are the only 2 actors still alive from the show. Sadly, I hear that Kathy Garver ( Sissy) and Johnny are no longer on speaking terms.
Thanks for the update. I've always been a fan. My favorite role of his was as Tom Sawyer, which I'm surprised wasn't mentioned. That film has actually been on my mind for the past few weeks.
I, like millions of others watched Family affair. I was a huge Brian Keith fan from Disney Movies. Johnny was a Standout Actor along with Anissa. They stole every scene they were in. We had the same agent, Mary Grady. I met Johnny and his Mom in 1970 while being in Mary’s office. He was a very polite boy, and his Mom very gracious! Nice to have memories like that! I saw Kathy Garver (Cissy) on a TV Commercial the other day! Good to see they’re still working! 😊❤️ Another Great Job on this! Thank you!
Sebastian Cabot was also the narrator for the first three Disney *Winnie-the-Pooh* shorts, later collected as *The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh* (1977).
You made one little mistake in the video. In 1971, Johnny was really eleven, not twelve. It was only in about the last two weeks of 1971 that he would have turned twelve and that makes a huge difference in his marketability as a child actor. My most memorable episode of Family Affair is the one where Eve Plumb who would later go on to play Jan Brady in The Brady Bunch plays a child dying of cancer. It doesn't have a happy ending. People tend to think Family Affair didn't touch serious topics, but it did. I have to say that my favorite character on the show was Mr. French played by Sebastian Cabot.
Did you ever notice the TV characters who did not have children? Columbo? Mr. French, as well as Uncle Bill. Or anyone from Gunsmoke, say Festus Haggen. They would have made excellent fathers. They all had incredible patience, and had good rapport with kids. There were a few good episodes missing from that fact.
Sebastian Cabot was a personal friend of my uncle. My sister was invited to lunch with the two of them and said he was a wonderful and charming lunch companion.

But a boy's just a dreamer
by the river side
Cause the water's too fast
and the water's too wide
The World turns around
and the boy grows tall
He hears the song
of the river call
The river song sings
travel on .. travel on
You blink away a tear
and the boy is gone
Oh a river's gonna flow
cross the land, cross the land
Oh a river's gonna flow
to the sea
And a boy's gonna grow
to a man ... to a man
Only once in his life

@@douglasnyquist2933l came to be in 1964. what happened to people between then and now? I personally haven't changed over the years but I'm disappointed in how I see people conducting themselves these days. Having said that' I recently moved to a small town where the people are amazingly friendly and moral'everybody smiles and waves and says "how are you today?' And "if you need any help with anything just sing out" ' I almost feel like im in a twilight zone episode. So that 's good.🙂
Great to see he's doing well and overcame drugs and alcohol. Very unfortunate Anissa didn't overcome her addiction. I enjoyed watching Family Affair in the late 60s/early 70s. I'm 5 month's older than Johnny, so he was close to my age when he was performing in Family Affair and other shows.
We're happy to know that you're a fan of the show and Johnny! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
Very unfortunate so why did a mormon boy be like her ?
@@kirstenbaisner215
Because we're all human, with human frailties and flaws. Was his Mormon religion supposed to "protect" him?
@@FactsVerse Way too long ago to remember a favorite.
@@pwatson5766 if he wore his magic underwear, then yes.
Yes , we usually watched the show, glad he's doing so well
We're happy to know that you are a fan of the show! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
One of Johnny Whittaker's biggest films of the 1970s that wasn't mentioned is the lead role in Tom Sawyer, which also showcased his singing ability.
I was wondering why they didn't mention that one. I was born in 1960 and remember seeing Tom Sawyer in the theatre. Great actor.
With Jodie Foster.
Loved the show. Still do. I still watch That Girl, Dennis the Menace, & Hazel too.
Family Affair and Sigmund and the Sea Monsters were two of my favs! Glad Johnny is doing well now.
An inspiring story! I remember Johnny from many of the shows mentioned. Sweet memories of a better time.
Glad you like the video! Have a great weekend ❤
I absolutely loved Family Affair when I was a little girl! In my baby book, my mom wrote how she’d fix my hair like Buffy.
I was a big fan of the Show
Family Affair. It was a good
Wholesome show about a
Bachelor who became an over
Night Parent to his Brothers
Children. Buffy and Jody were
So cute as the twins, and Cissy
Was their teenaged sister. It had real charm in the show and a very Handsome Uncle Bill
Played by Brian Keith. I also
Loved Sebastian Cabot as
Mr. French who took care of the
Children when Uncle Bill was away on Business Trips. It's
Sad to know that Anissa who
Played Buffy Davis took her own
Life at aged 18. We will always
Have the Reruns of
Family Affair to take us back
To a simpler time in America
When Families had Values and
Children were disciplined with
Love.
OMG...I loved😘 Jody and Buffy...one of my favorite shows to watch as a child, also loved me some Mr. French!!!🥰🥰
I still watch Family Affair all the time
I met him back in 1995 when I was working at Costco Santa Clarita he was a nice guy..
Cool 😎 ❗
I loved this show... It is so nice traveling down memory lane 🥰
Love the show Family Affair!!! Jody and Buffy were such a wonderful part of my childhood!
I'm glad he straightened his life up, I grew up watching his s5
I did grow up watching Family Affair (I can even still hum the entire theme song). I am the same age as Johnny. I thought Buffy and Jody were the cutest kids. I am very sad that Anissa Jones lost her life so young. Such a tragedy.
Glad to know that you're a fan of Family Affair! Which episode is the most memorable for you?
@@FactsVerse I was 12 when it went off the air. I am now 63. I no longer recall any one episode. I just know that I watched it throughout it’s run and loved it. Especially Mr. French.
It’s sad what happened to Anissa Jones but I’m glad he survived.
I wonder what those kids were put through in Hollywood back then…
He should tell us dontcha think?
Naw, there was $$$$$ for your soul.
It's not really losing 8 years of life. It's part of his journey and without those 8 years he wouldn't be where he is today.
I am pretty sure that Pluto Tv has family affair. It is free and you do not have to sign up
@@krayezykat4413 Thanks, I see it free on multiple platforms, I just hadn't thought about the show until this mini doc. Cheers, 👍✌
Yes, I grew up watching Family Affair and I even had a Ms Beasley doll.

I was born in 1960 & as a fellow ginger, l never forgot Johnny Whittaker. But not so much for "Family Affair" but for his Disney episodes and #1 for "The Biscuit Eater". That theme song was the song l used to sing to my little girl l took out of a kill shelter. "Growing together Moreover and me." Thanks for such beautiful memories Johnny!- All the best to you, wherever you are, whatever you do!

I grew up loving Family Affair!!! Thank you so much for this insightful update!!!
I loved Family Affair! I had a Mrs. Beasley doll! Wish I still had it. Probably worth something nowadays. 😊
He was such a cutie pie!
Thank you, it's nice to know he's doing well.
I can’t say if Hollywood was as bad back then for children as it is today, but the programming with a moral compass, is much appreciated.
Anissa and Johnny made family affair a success ,in my opinion ,their acting was superb , for two little kids .
I still watch it everyday I loved the whole cast thank God for reruns
Never actually watched "The Littlest Angel," but we had the soundtrack on LP vinyl, and I wore holes in it when I was a kid, cuz I listened to it so much!
You should seek out the actual video. While on the LP, Johnny's songs are doubled by the choir, in the show he actually sings those songs solo.
I know Johnny from high school, he was always encouraging of my sax playing. His parents house was on the same street as mine! A great guy all the way around!!!💜💜💜
I loved family affair as a kid. As well as the original sigmund and the sea monsters.
I sure did watch Family Affair.
It would be nice for Hallmark to do a film with a reunion of Jody and Cissy!
It would be nice. They are the only 2 actors still alive from the show. Sadly, I hear that Kathy Garver ( Sissy) and Johnny are no longer on speaking terms.
@@hhhggg4687 That's a shame.
Maybe in the future they can mend fences.
That was a great show ! I remember wanting to live in that apartment !
Awesome to hear the good of child actors 👏
I loved the movie Tom Sawyer as a child, the movie was so interesting to me that i didn't even know it was a musical!
I loved Family affair ❤️ I always got a Miss Beasley and had gotten many dolls of her for Christmas! I need one right now though.

Thanks for the update. I've always been a fan. My favorite role of his was as Tom Sawyer, which I'm surprised wasn't mentioned. That film has actually been on my mind for the past few weeks.

Great show I seen every show as a teen sorry to hear about Buffy 😢 glad to know he is a survival 😊 blessings to you
We're happy to know that you love the show. In your opinion, what is its best episode?
Yes. I grew up watching Family Affair. My mother loved this show.
Thank you!

I loved this show. ❤️ Buffy and Jody was a favorite and good family television then. Nothing really good anymore for clean family television.
We're happy to know that you love the show. Which episode is the most memorable for you?
I enjoyed Family Affair and thought it was cool that Mr. French played a panther in Jungle Book
He was a versatile actor I remember an episode of bonanza where he played a real pecker head.
Sebastian Cabot was also the narrator for the first three Disney *Winnie-the-Pooh* shorts, later collected as *The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh* (1977).
“Family Affair” was one of my favorite shows! Thanks for the info!

He was the cutest boy ever!! ❤ Thank you Johnny for pushing thru your struggles & not leaving us too soon ❤ We Love You!!! ❤
We absolutely agree! Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Be safe and don't forget to watch our next video.
I loved Mr French, too❗
Did you ever notice the TV characters who did not have children? Columbo?
Mr. French, as well as Uncle Bill. Or anyone from Gunsmoke, say Festus
Haggen. They would have made excellent fathers. They all had incredible
patience, and had good rapport with kids. There were a few good episodes
missing from that fact.
Sebastian Cabot was a personal friend of my uncle. My sister was invited to lunch with the two of them and said he was a wonderful and charming lunch companion.
@@JeanneBaney I would have thought he was just that. He just seemed like a very nice man.
He was indeed a great actor, I don't understand how 11 and 12 years of age could make much difference
Not only did I grow up watching the show, I'm friends with his co-star, Kathy Garver, AKA Cissy.
Fun stuff, thank you for sharing this! What other types of video would you like to see?
