- I test Zep Formula 15282 to clean this Irvine 40. It cleans very well and did not discolor the engine.

On the exhaust and a bit on the front housing I used oil soaked emory cloth to gently remove the oxidation and discoloration.
The best news is that this ZEP Formula 15282 did not discolor the engine. The down side is that the ZEP website shows this as currently unavailable as does Amazon. SO while this seems to work well, getting it may be an issue.
Very impressed with these ultrasonic cleaners .Its done a really good job on that engine .
Very nice to see what you have made of it. It looks clean and shiny now. Great job, thanks for sharing!
I'd say its appearance has improved by 85% David - which I do find quite significant. No comparison "before - after" can be made. Seems like a decent product, looking forward to the next run video when possible.

David, I have used a stainless steel wire brush to brighten up engines that unfortunately darkened with other cleaners. It does a reasonable job and gets into tight spaces well. Aluminum welders use stainless steel wire brushes because regular steel wire brushes will contaminate the aluminum and affect the welding process.
I would not be afraid to turn the heat up to 120⁰F with that soap. We heat it to 160⁰F at work.
The engine looks (and ran!) better than I ever could have imagined. Fine work, David. Maybe try a little of that soap mixed into a slurry with the stainless steel wire brush that Mike suggests in the comments here... try it on the muffler first and see what it comes out like, but gee, it looks pretty good the way it is. I think most of those dark marks are pitting, but you might be able to lighten the marks up some. You were saying you might just "let it sit" after a couple more bench runs; well that engine does know how to "sit" for sure. Fair warning though... letting it sit for over 30 years doesn't do it any good, and we both know that's true. From "frozen up: to what you've got it looking and running like today is simply amazing. That engine is ready for some pylon racing! I'll bet a tuned pipe would make that thing scream. Later... florida_floyd
David, I have been using LA’s Totally Awesome Cleaner for years after following your advice. I buy it in bulk from my local dollar store. I have found if the water temperature is too hot or parts left in the ultrasonic cleaner for too long it will discolor aluminum. Aluminum is a very porous metal and stains easily. I use temperatures 20-30°c or 68-90F max for 15 min. Never had an issue yet and have cleaned engines way worse and stained than the Irvine. Parts come out the sonic cleaner like new. My recommendation is to lower the temperature and shorten the cleaning time. I use about 1/2 LA’s to about 1/2 water. I always feel it is better to put back in the cleaner for another short cleaning rather than cook it. My 2 cents
Informative video. Thank you.
Thank you. Very informative.

If you list the bearing size preferably also part number. I'll check to see if I have the bearing.

It's the Irvine sport 40 ABC
I have never heard of that, but I am quite unfamiliar with the Irvine line. I could not find a review on this variat. Thank you.
