    I just found your channel; your vulnerability and kind heart is such a breath of fresh air for me. I really resonate with the project choices and the connection to the energy to take on a challenge vs enjoying mindless activity that still helps others. Thank you for your beautiful courage! ❤ - Tabitha

    You are a wonderful lady Margaret, thank you! I'm going to make headbands with my 22" Addi and garnish with a pretty flower, but only after I've cleaned up my yarn stash, through the years I've had so many projects, some finished some not and I have got to organize myself now. I'm 79 years young and cannot leave this for somebody else to do if something ever happens to me. Mind you I'm a healthy now but you never know right. I also must get my needles and crochet hooks in order I must have at least a dozen 5.mm hooks along with hundreds more lying around in various places around my house. I find there is something about yarn that you get attached to, the memories come back when you start doing your cleanup doesn't it. Thank you for all that you do. PS. I also have kitties and 2 dogs and my husband of over 58 years.

      Thank you, Diane! This is an old video and not sure what I said it but I do have an Addi headband tutorial in my playlist: Addi Playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLV9cndFtR5BVQrjZ7X1f0HRTV92kscJf2.html A few years after I made that tutorial, I got permission to make a tutorial for my favorite crochet flower which I believe I linked in the description box of the headband tutorial. (I’m currently on vacation and it difficult to check all this stuff on my phone.)

    I really enjoyed this video. I'm a charity crochet myself and prefer the chunkier yarns as they whip up so quick.
    And yes, weight loss DEFINATELY starts with the mindset. The isolation has hit me very hard and depresdion gas skyrocketed here in Australia, (it doesn't help that we're in winter either). Anyhoo, thanks for all you do and I look forward to the next vlog. Blessings from Melbourne, Australia ☺🇦🇺❤❤

      I'm sorry to hear that, Kaz. You seem like such a bright and happy person by nature so I'm sad to know you're battling the blues. There are so many people who are in the same boat hence the reason we're having such a hard time keeping people at home around here. We're doing outside stuff with others (like pickleball) but being winter, you have a challenge finding outdoor things to do! (BTW, summer in Texas can be a challenge, too! Tonight is the "rehearsal dinner" for Maggie's wedding which we're holding outside so we're hoping the heat isn't a factor.)

    I am such a scrap-yarn-phob because I never know what I can get from what I have left. Lol! I have always given my scraps to a friend whom I taught to loom knit and she always creates the cutest baby booties and things. Well, since seeing the super bulky hats, I think HER scraps are going to dwindle down!! I can't wait to try it. Thank you so much for your videos, I always learn something new. Patterns, ideas, what-have-you. Many prayers for Mr Smitty too. Our furbabies sure are precious to us.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrsCruzski You're right... his will help your scrap-yarn-phobia since you just add colors if you run out. I've noticed only lately that when I start getting close to the end, and I'm sure I'm going to run out, that I actually have plenty! I think I'm sort of getting better at estimating how much it takes.

    Hi sunshine, i keep seeing that Easy Knit Scarf that you have been working on and I was wondering where I might find that pattern. Just amazed by the way your working through your goals. I also agree with motivation and weather. I spent one year in Melbourne about four years ago and coming from sunny Brisbane to where the sun seemed to shine for very short periods of time with no heat in it, where most days are over caste, gloomy and cold that within three months i stopped going outside unless i forced myself and then it was only to walk my dogs and shop once a week to stock up, the rest of my time was on the couch under blankets and i really believed i slept the rest of the time. I did go back to Brisbane and it took me months to step back into where life could function normally again. Again thank you again for sheepishly sharing. Between yourself, Erin and Clare and your u tubes each week have done so much.... you are better than a happy pill. Rosie from downunder.

    I enjoy watching your videos so much and knit or crochet with you often! :-) Thank you for giving the links to all these hats. I am very inspired after watching your hat videos to try my hand at them as shawls, scarves and cowls have been my projects of choice up until now. But after realizing that I can share my items with those less fortunate...well, that definitely opened up a new way of looking at my hobby. You and other generous knitters and crocheters are wonderful role models. Keep up the good work!

      +Carol Nunn What sweet words to wake up to this morning! Thank you, Carol! Yes... sadly, there IS a huge need for warmth out there but on a happy note, it's a need we can easily fill! I'm not sure there will ever be enough and to compound the problem, hats/gloves/scarves get lost or wear out so the need is ever-present. Role model?? I don't thing so! I think the giving of our yarn creations is somehow embedded in our DNA! We just naturally want to share our work. See how quickly you jumped on the idea?! I have a video with tips and info about crafting for charity. Did you see that one?

      +Margaret Olander (Sheepishly Sharing) I am going to look for that video! I have now "dusted off" my Innovations knitting machine and I am going to use your tips for the Addi and see if I can adapt some of those ideas. That coupled with the scrap yarn hats, I think there is success in my near future. Also going to try the scrap yarn idea and crochet edgings using my Innovations machine. My creative juices are flowing! Again, thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to give us great information. Between you and J's Knit & Pearl Jam, I am on a role. Now to look for that video... ;-)

    I love all of the hats! Poor baby Smitty, I hope he gets better, all better, soon. You're really brave with your colors! I tend to stick with one color in a project and I really have to sleep on a decision about a second color LOL!

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      EYEAMSHEEEE I am a brave color warrior!!! I'm afraid poor baby Smitty won't be all better. :( The hope is that the medicine will slow down the progression and I suppose we'll have to deal with the sinus infections popping up here and there. He feel much better at the moment. For a few days there, he wouldn't get out of my lap and would get mad if I had to move him. He fought me this morning with the antibiotic so that's great!

    You have such beautiful cats! I always get a good dose of kitty fever when they're in your videos :) For a while I just wanted to work on "mindless" projects, but I've kind of lost my crafting mojo (crochet, knitting, and spinning). I'm sure it'll come back soon; especially after seeing all your beanies, great video :)

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chereemnm I can't live in a house without cats... period. Of course, I adore my Bentley dog, too. There's even a fish tank and my wild birds outside that I keep well fed. I'm Dr. Doolittle, I suppose. I hope my need for mindless projects doesn't morph into losing my mojo but I understand how it happens. However, once it gets in your blood, it never really goes away, does it?!

    Hi Margaret love your videos I have an addi knitting machine the large one could I make a headband on it. And love your ideas of using your stash down I did same idea to make baby blankets only with baby yarns and they came out so colorful it surprised me! I did same as you when one color ended I just added another color I tried to keep in to one color theme but in different shades. Thanks for letting me into your crochet adventures also interested in the easy scarf pattern is that on ravelry? Nancy Marchefka Thanks for the kind words, Nancy! Yes, you could make a headband on your large Addi. It will come out about 5.5-6" wide rather than 3" wide like the smaller one. You could also do a flat panel and seam it together if you wanted it thinner. Re: that scarf... I supposed I've talked about it so many times I just forget to put the link in the description box! Loved this video! You are just such a joy to "visit" with. Quick question on the multi-strand hat. How many rows in your crown (increase rows) & how many rows sc even all around. Yours looks bigger. Thanks.

      @sheepishlysharing  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Barb515 I don't know... they're all different! Some are kid size, some are adult size. I have measurements marked on my tape measure so I don't count rows... just diameter of crown and length from crown to mid ear. Some of the yarn is thick than others so that effected my rows, too.

    Margaret, I listen to your videos while I knit on Addi. I ENJOY THEM SO MUCH. I am in no way affiliated with Addi, just like you, but I just wanted to say that I have now completed 1,013 hats since /decenber 1014, If it can do that many hats, it has more than paid for itself. My hats are for charity only, never tried to sell one.

      +Jewel Ogle OH MY GOODNESS! 1,013 hats! (Now I'm wondering how many I've made over the years... hmmm) That's terrific, Jewel! I need to dust mine off. I have 2 things I want to try that have been rattling around in my brain PLUS I have some yarn to make some hats specifically requested by a certain charity but I have yet to make them!

    When you’re using scraps, do you mix yarn types like cotton and acrylic?

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t tend to mix fibers. I think it’s too risky since different types of fibers require different care.

    LOVE the scrap hats!!! What size hook do you use for 2 strands of yarn? I am just learning and thought it would be easier with 2 strands..Thank you!!! I love your hats!!! You have such creative ideas that are inspiring me..

      @sheepishlysharing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      patinca 2 strands of yarn... hmmm.... I used a 12mm for 4 so I guess a 6mm for 2. Again... it will depend on your tension/gauge so you may prefer to go up or down a size or 2.

      @sheepishlysharing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Julieta Ward As I stated in the video... I didn't use a pattern so I found one for you! I just did a basic hat in single crochet starting with 6sc and increasing as you would for a basic hat: (row 2: 2 sc in each stitch Row 3: 2 sc in the first stitch; 1 sc in the next, etc. increasing each row until crown is desired size.) If you still need more info, let me know.

  • @maggiezorn4591

    I would have started her off with a bigger hook (N,P, etc) and a bulky yarn. It's easier to see the stitches. Especially if she's on a 4th grade level.

    do you live near Allatoona Lake ? I live in Austell, Ga. I knit, crochet, and sew. I also make glass beads on a torch, do nail art(fingernail), and any other craft I can find.

      Wow! You do a lot of creative stuff! Those glass beads sound impressive! And no, I'm up north, closer to Lake Lanier. However, 20-something years ago we lived in Smyrna a few miles from a 4-way stop that had, Smyrna, Marietta and Austell all represented on that corner!

    Hi Margaret I am crocheting a scarf that you start with 1 stitch and increase 2 stitches per row to the center. My problem is the second half ( decreasing 2 stitches) is turning out to be shorter than the other end. How can I fix this?

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh, goodness, Lynda... it could be a number of things and it's very difficult to determine without my seeing it. This is why joining the Facebook or Ravelry group is helpful as there are many people there that could view your work or pattern to give you some help. First check to make sure you're reading the pattern correctly. Is there supposed to be a row without decreases in between each decrease row? Or maybe you didn't read the pattern correctly on the other end. If that's the case, figure out what you did wrong and apply the same mistake to this end! (I do this all the time! Then it ceases to be a mistake and becomes a "design choice!" Ha!) OR maybe there is a mistake in the pattern?

    Hi, Margaret can you help me with crocheting a hat using cotton yarn and the Better late the ever hat pattern??? because I worry about it not stretching.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Angela Prescott I never use cotton with hats because I worry about the same thing! However, I had a discontinued yarn a while back that was pretty much all cotton and as long as your size is accurate, it's fine. There's just not much flexibility with sizing.

    Who do you donate to? I have a group of knitters and crocheters who would like to do that.

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've always donated locally. Yarn can be heavy so shipping costs can rise quickly. At the time of this video we were back home in Mississippi and it was to an organization I volunteered with called MadCAAP. (Madison Countians Allied Against Poverty). Here in the Atlanta area I give to something our church does for school age kids: Backpacks of Love. (Discreetly fills backpacks with food so these kids can have something for dinner each night.) HOWEVER, one of our own Sheepishly Sharing community (Sister Margaret Mary) is collecting Christmas themed items for a fund raiser. th-cam.com/video/kEDRQT1jfX0/w-d-xo.htmlm14s Her school is in a rather poor community and her fundraisers have always kept the music program afloat. Right now her health is slowing her down. There's a surprisingly great need in near EVERY community in America and a quick Google search for non-profits can help you find some near you. Battered women's shelters need EVERYTHING as these women often show up with nothing but the clothes on their backs (and a frightened child or two). I could talk about this all day but that's something to get you started!

    • @sheepishlysharing
      @sheepishlysharing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I call my channel “sheepishly sharing” because that’s how I often feel about sharing my less-than-perfect work. Why do you feel it necessary to be so adversarial? There are so many ills in this world that need to be addressed and I applaud your concern about the environment but my concern is people who can’t care for themselves. The charities I work with don’t allow wool (allergies and laundry care) and cotton is not preferred for homeless because if it gets wet, it doesn’t hold heat. We can help with your platform in other ways in order to help reduce the impact on the environment but not to the detriment of needy people in the here and now.
