how did it work out for you. I plan to do something similar in my garage except with ABS or PVC pipe, which ever is cheaper. Iron pipe is far to expensive.
Overall the piping at the time of purchase wasn't to bad in terms of cost. It has done well overall but there is still some dust that gets out either over the top or under the bottom of there is a gap. With that being said I would mount it as high as you can and try and get the tarp to hang perfectly at the flow level.

I had this hideous shelf that my wife puts all of her junk on in the garage. So I put a tarp curtain in front of it. It looks better.
