  • I bought some Triang Pullman coaches at the East Anglian Railway Museum on the 10th October so have given them a clean and got the sticky labels off how will they run and how old might they be? I also went back to the E.A.R.M. the Sunday (1 week) later to see what it was like without a major event on so some pictures and film from that also the Diesel Shunter I could not find any information on its in this at the end. See also the Triang & Hornby Pullmans running at the same time.

Those old split axle are fixed to one half the other floats on the pin, I used to find the flange is a lot deeper than moden wheel stock as they tan on the old triang track, so code 100 a lot finer and the flange hits the chairs on the track, I know johns amazing trains done a few vids on converting them with axle bearings glued in place to hold new wheel sets

      Hi,
So if I understand you the loose wheel and axel should move freely so some oil on it may help the running but I must say for there age I am happy with them and will run them like this so as always cheers for watching and the very nice and helpful comments keep safe and well.
      Cheers Robert.

Doesn't the baggage car go at the back?

      Hi,
Thanks for watching and your interesting comment and yes here in the UK the Guards van/baggage coach does go at the back most of the time but in Europe behind the loco is the usual place but if you watch Chadwick Model Railway's video he did not always they can be in the middle of the train so I would say having them at the back is not set in stone they can be elsewhere in the train as operational details ask for as for my layout the detail is in the channel name Trainset I run anything with anything on my loft layout and it will be no different on the new end to end one I am building at the moment. A new update on the end to end on Friday which is No15 in this on going saga hope you can watch.

Some of the wobble might be the flanges just touching either the sleepers or rail chairs. The old triang wheels had a big flange compared to the newer wheels. Great running session, Robert.

One wheel should rotate freely on the axle and the other should be tight on the axle and rotate with it as it is molded round a protrusion on the axle , Johns amazing trains has a video of how to remove them easily from the bogie

Hi Robert… Great video. I have a rake of those short pullmans with the very early couplings ( like a 3/4 D coupling). I have used some of them on my layout in a static
cafe/restaurant scene on a section of disused track. We must try and keep the some of the old kit going in our modelling I think.

    Hi Robert,
For the two coaches with the old style open axle wheels I suggest you get some Romford brass bearings and change to modern pin point wheels. I have done this with a couple of old tri-ang coaches and they now run as good as any modern one, better in some cases. The bearings come in two types, one with a shoulder and one without. Get both types and use one of each on each wheel set. The shouldered one will stay in place and the other one can be adjusted to get a good free running fit before filling the axle boxes in with epoxy, a small bit of blue tack will aid the setting up stage. I did try two shouldered ones but the fit is too tight and two of the others will be more fiddly.
Stay safe & well. Cheers for now, Rob

If had of bought them for my layout. because of code 75 track i would have taken out the old wheels and replaced them for the new scale type. as the older wheels would have ridden on the sleeper chairs.

I can't describe how happy you've made me feel. Your lowdown of the Triang Pullman Carriages was a bit long but nice. I wasn't exactly smiling when you were running the N7, which has one front buffer missing (the one on the right side), yet when I saw Earl of St. Germans on the track and Tornado facing the opposite way, a look of surprise took hold of my face. You mentioned me and that Earl of St. Germans is my favourite engine in your collection. Now a cheerful grin is on my face and I can't wipe it off. I loved the real railway part at the end. Not every steamy you run puts a smile on my face, I admit. When Earl of St. Germans is running, she'll always be music to my ears. I smile most for her.😂🙃
