I think the main two talking points should now be: remco defeated Roglic and vingegaard in Itzulia this year (finished ahead of them on GC) and this climbing performance. He took more time to develop than, say, pogacar but could we be looking at a worthy rival for future Grand Tours? I'm hopeful cause this next decade sure was looking like the Pog Show.

I've been living in Norway for a few years now. There are always complaints that the races here don't use the mountains. Fair enough, but so many of the roads are absolutely terrible because of snowploughs and spiked tires. A lot of the roads are also the only one servicing a large area. You can't just close them down for a few hours.

When he talks about the gel in the mouth thing - The first time I heard about this was on a Radiolab podcast about a decade ago. They were talkign about the Race Across America (RAAM) and Slovenian cyclist Jure Robic. I think it's called the energy governor theory that basically states: your body wants to achieve balance, and at a certain point your body doesn't want to output any more energy until it has more coming in, Even if there is energy still in reserves that can be used. Even just having something sweet in your mouth or drinking a diet drink (which contains no calories) can trick your body into thinking it's receiving energy, and in turn releasing the energy on reserve. I didn't know this had become a practice in the pro peleton.

I think something worth focusing on from this stage or at least for me is the almost certain relegation of ISN. Lotto and Cofidis picked up more points than their total Giro tally in CDW. With Bevin and Hagen dropped they have lost a solid 100 odd points I reckon from what they desired from this race, and with no real sprinters these races they have to be taking 200+ points minimum. I think it would take a miracle now for ISN to survive tbh.

precisely - some people forget what a bad crash that was - it could've ended his career or worse. Plus he jumped from Juniors straight into Pro and missed out the under 23 sections - he's learning fast that's for sure - I can't wait to see how he stacks up in a 3 week tour.

Remco said in an interview (don’t remember which exactly but after Liège) that he was the best just after altitude camp. Old pro cyclist are whining and saying that pro riders should race more like in the good old days but this is another proof if you needed one that with today’s level it is necessary to select and prepare the races better (at altitude, heat prep, …)
