  • Join me as I do a full-bust adjustment on a pattern without a dart.
This is the first of many pattern-fitting tutorials I will do on this channel, and I’d love to hear what else you want to learn about! Let me know in the comments below!
Here are the steps for doing a full-bust adjustment on a pattern without a dart:
    1. Try on the tissue (wrong sides together), mark your bust apex, and measure how far the pattern’s center front is from your center front.
    2. Pin the tissue to a cardboard grid, and draw lines 1, 2 and 3.
    3. Cut and spread at line 1, creating room at the bust apex.
    4. Cut on line 2 and swing the side half so it is on-grain again (you’ll be creating a dart at line 2).
    5. Cut on line 3 and spread it so the hem is straight and on-grain.
    6. Fill in all gaps with Perfect Pattern Paper and tape in place.
    7. Try on the tissue (wrong sides together), and make sure it fits.
    8. When you like the fit in tissue, cut out your fabric!

Great tutorial. I have seen this adjustment done before but your demo on the grid board made it easy to follow exactly what you were doing.
I am a beginner garment sewer and really like the way you present this information so I think a French dart demo would be equally enlightening!! Thanks!!

Awesome tutorial! Super clear and understandable (even if there were a lot of "bust" and "apex" words thrown around! 🤣 ). Would love to see a SMALL bust adjustment example when the pattern has no dart. Thanks for all the great tutorials!

Hi again! How are you holding out? Are you keeping busy my Sister-in-stitch?
I've just been learning about a NYC Doctor who is having tremendously great success treating the virus. Cool in that this malaria drug is also used to treat Lyme disease and arthritis! Hot dog, what do ya know about that?

Kate, looking at you I see my proportions! Would you please tell me how far below the armscye you began your bust dart and approx how wide it is? My dart is always way too high! I'm 39" Upper and 42.5 Lower if that helps?
    Thanks so very much!
p.s. I looked through your playlist and I couldn't find the French Dart demo you promised Pam Bjorlo. I would love to learn how to draft a french dart.

Momzilla yes! We are exactly the same measurements! My apex is 12” below my shoulder, so that’s where I mark it. I had to take a hiatus from making videos because I was making them by myself on top of working 50 hours a week at the shop. I had a wee little meltdown. I now have video help, so they will be coming out every week. The first few will be quilting related, but then I’ll return to the fitting series! Thanks for watching!

@@ConfidentStitch Good Morning Kate, my twin Sister-In-Stitch! I've been melting down for 8 years. That is when the hot flashes started and now I sit beside a fan in my spare time. Off/On, off/on, off/on... The World is in melt-down with the Virus, and Oil was just below $20.00 per barrel just a few minutes ago. You are in good company!!!!
Yup, my girls are at 12" too. I've been learning to make patterns, but haven't had one successful pattern yet, so success must be just around the corner!
I loved your video. It is very professional, you act like a Pro, and zip through the boring stuff. I was trying to learn Corel to make some DVDs from the old home movies. Much like my pattern making, something is missing from that recipe too. What video software are you using?

Kate, do you follow the Bodylanguage Ghost here on TH-cam? If you ever need cheering up, this girl covers the big events and our politicians meltdowns in reaction to those events. Great playlist too! LOL th-cam.com/video/zcCDQma7JqE/w-d-xo.html&feature=em-uploademail This is the youtube title to a recent video if TH-cam removes the web address. They tend to do that. @@ConfidentStitch Kate, I am convinced that the reason commercial patterns don't work for me is because of the Shoulder Slope. Get the SS off then the armscye isn't what it should be, and down the bodice the mistakes pile up. Would you consider giving us a lesson on how to measure the shoulder slope? Have a great Saturday. I hope the sun is shining where ever you are.

How do you know where the apex of your bust is?

    • @ConfidentStitch
      @ConfidentStitch  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Great Question! The apex is the "top of the mountain," which is not necessarily your nipple, and can be different in different bras. I mark it on the pattern piece two different ways -- If I remember, I use a pen to mark it on the tissue while I'm trying on the tissue. If I forget to do that, I know my apex is 12" from the top of my shoulder, and my apexes are 8" apart. Sometimes, I just measure 12" down from the shoulder seam allowance and 4" from the center front and mark the apex there. :) Kate
