I did show a ton of practical steps in this video, even with the garments on my body. I don’t know what you expect but my channel is filled with practical sewing.
How far did you watch? This is not short-attention-span theater. I looked for your channel, but you have no content. So you're not even showing, just talking talking talking.
marie Nolan, I found all the talking so helpful, fully explaining then showing, what needed adjusting, why and how. Maybe it was wasted on you because you need something much simpler to understand.
Omg I can't believe I have never heard how to work out the dart depth, this information has changed my life!! No more fitting and refitting. Thank you 😊 💓
Thank you now I can finish my sewing . I just love watching you , I found myself smiling as I watched you. Your great and you have a very nice smile. I'll be back for more hints! Thank you so much
Excellent video, I live at thrift stores but am not able to fit myself properly…. No experience, but now I have some good ideas and will hunt out my friends to help me fit myself…. So easy when you explain things! WoW you are a wonderful seamstress - truly amazing! Georgia in B.C. Canada
Katrina, you looked so beautiful in that purple top, that is really your color. Thank you so much for showing us how to add a bust dart to tops that have drag lines. I really appreciate your knowledge of sewing techniques and expertise that you are sharing with us each and every one of your videos. You are a real delight to watch and learn from. Take care.
Thanks so much for sharing this. This is *exactly* what I've been looking for! I bought a linen top because I love the fabric, but when I put it on, it looks like I'm wearing a fabric box. I appreciate your explanation of how to take your front and back measurements to the waist in order to calculate one's unique dart sizing. Hoping this will improve the look for me!
Karina , thank you for your tutorials. I had never thought to add darts to a garment until I bought a blouse that makes me look boxy. I am planning on using your technique to start restyling my tops and make them fit me better. Your an inspiration to us all...
You just solved my problem!! Wish I had seen this video a long time ago. I can't wait to go "fix" my drag line problem!!! thank you thank you thank you for taking so much time to explain in perfect detail what you have done and why.
Boxy is just not the best look with a larger bust. I do the exception of boxy with sheer clothes because the outline of the shape can be seen through with the fitted cami underneath :)
So very helpful! My bust darts were always to high, tryed to lower them and still didn't look good. After seeing this very detailed video I understand I took them down too much - thank you so much for investing so mych effort in your videos - I learn so much from You! Keep on going, love your videos. Greetings from Israel!
Fantastic job! Adding darts is so important ...who knew? I did not know just how important they are for shaping. Without them, some clothes make a girl look barrel shaped. But add darts and transform, Thanks a lot for posting this video! You are lovely and you helped a lot of people look better and more unportantly, feel better.
Awesome refashion. I always like a little more room in a linen top. After all we are usually wearing them in the warm weather. The fabric breathes so well. I love it when I find a huge top in a shop that nobody wants, that you can lay the pattern pieces right on to for a quick change fit for little money invested.
This video is full of helpful tips. I love knowing how to measure for knowing how much needs to be taken out at the side (for size of dart). Logical as it seems, I just hadn't thought of trying it. Now I plan to.
This makes so much sense and I'm not very experienced. The way you measured, that the front will be that much shorter, such comprehensive explanation, thank you for taking the time.
I always enjoy these refashions too Karina! I've often looked at a boxy top and backed away knowing that with my bust that's just not a good look as you say BUT now I will look at them more carefully for the option to adding my own shaping with darts just removing the side seems. Sometimes a little work on a thrifted garment is totally worth it if the style and fabric content (like linen and silk) is precious :)
Love to thrift cloths, can't do it now, but .... Thanks for showing. I have tried something similar with a ponti-knit-dress I bought. The dart was pointing to my face ! Unpicked and fixed it. Fun.
Great tutorial, its fun to look through second hand shops and find the nice items in good fabric to refit, and better for the environment than buying new fabric. You found some lovely garments. Please do more of these refashions! I totally agree that you see lots of this type of fit problem on the high street as well, also bust darts in the wrong place (mostly too high).
Tell me about high bust darts. The norm seems to be that clothes are drafted for a bust height of 9.5-10” and so many women are not there. People who don’t sew are oblivious about it though.
Wow, what a difference. Incredible. You can make everything fit so much better. Thank you so much for your help and experience. It is very much appreciated and so helpful. I am an avid follower of your channel.
Thank you ..I was looking how to calculate the dart size ..and your explaination is easy I a making a white linen slip dress and wanted bust darts. now I know how to do them...thank you 😉
The refashions are amazing! I love the purple linen top with the Glissandro pants😍 Can you do the same sort of alterations with a jersey/knit top? I have a couple of boxy knits I would like to add shaping to. ❤️
Yes they are extremely loud. So are the bugs. I have done many videos on yokes and burritos already: search for lifting pins and needles orchid dress, rhapsody blouse.
This was very interesting to me. I have not seen this method before. Any suggestions for a bust that is unlevel? I have a definite high and low that bras don't correct.
Karina great informative video. Maybe you can help me. Some of my dresses and tops seem to keep dragging back raising the front which strangles me, the shoulder seam does not stay along the top of my shoulder but slip backwards hence the reason I think why I have to keep dragging the front of the garment down. I have looked through your play list but I can’t see if there is a mention of my problem maybe you would know, if not I might have given you an idea for a new video 😁 Why is it that every time you put out a video someone always gives you a thumbs down why do they watch if they don’t enjoy what you do. 🙄
What you describe is the classic high rounded back. In this case the high back area is taking up more room and pushing the garment backwards. You might see back neckline gape and the front neckline pulling into your neck. Alexandra Morgan has an excellent video on his to do this adjustment on a pattern: th-cam.com/video/fFB31Z44gWs/w-d-xo.html
Julie Hale I’m sure Karina will be along with some top notch advice for you, but I had the exact fit problem you describe and what solved it was doing a high round back adjustment. I tried the forward shoulder adjustment first for a while but that still didn’t solve it. Turns out the high round back adjustment is what I needed. I am blown away with how much better my recent garments fit now, with this fix. I do them on both woven and jersey patterns and both types fit SO much better.
Hi Karina! Great video as per usual! Thanks! I need clarification 😅 Let's say that my difference between back and front is 5 cm, should I make a dart 2,5 cm each side? hence the amount divided by 2? Also, do you have a video about those pretty darts at the back? I wouldn't know how to measure and draw them by myself 😅 Thanks a lot for your great teachings! ❤
The dart volume in total would be 5cm… from the Center of the dart, 2.5cm to each side. The darts on the back are just draped on the body and you can see more here th-cam.com/video/LZhLLtqxw-0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=-ZbDHEerivJW6Alc
I have those drag lines in one of my tops. It is a very long tunic. All I wonder is if french darts might be better or not ? Thanks a lot for superb refashioning videos !
French darts are an option if you want to draw them on a pattern but in a ready made garment they will take up a lot of width on the side seam to be able to true them have an even side seam. So an option, but not a better option in my opinion. A regular bust dart will correct the drag lines without needing that much extra on the side to true them.
Hello! This was the most helpful video for making darts that fit my body. I have a few dresses that are too boxy and do not compliment me. I am going to use your method to give them shape. Some feedback - a little too much commentary at times - I found myself fast forwarding to get to the informational parts. Maybe make a separate video or blog for the additional commentary? Thank you!
I don’t know what extra commentary you are referring to. I stay on topic and the theoretical explanation to find the bust height is important to get a good result. My videos do not go straight into sewing because nothing would make sense, especially to those newer to sewing. Thanks for your feedback.

I love that and did this so much in the past. Now I have no source to get the thrifted clothes anymore and it’s so sad.

Thank you for this information. I have several tops that need darts or that have darts but they need to be adjusted to fit me. This was very helpful.

Thanks for watching 😊.
beautiful
I'll probably never have to do this (small bust) but it was uplifting and inspiring to watch. Thank you Karina!
Thank you so much and I’m sad I can’t find the way to incorporate a context for a smaller bust, not having a small bust myself.

Thank you so much 😊
You are delightful. Have you ever added a center front dust dart?
No I haven’t.
I cannot believe how loud the birds are there. Love your videos. Could you maybe do one about turning the yoke on a blouse?
Yes they are extremely loud. So are the bugs. I have done many videos on yokes and burritos already: search for lifting pins and needles orchid dress, rhapsody blouse.
Plz, make a tutorial of how to sew those pleats on your purple top
I already have one. Search on TH-cam: lifting pins and needles Zamora blouse :)

I folded the fabric in half and marked it with a tracing paper on the other side so that they are exactly the same.
