I may or may not have just bought one with a single pickup. I’m very happy with the quality. I’m not a great guitar player and can’t justify spending 6k on a real one. Plays great, nice and heavy. I have a new JB and a new wiring harness with all US components. Looking forward to getting it set up and ready to go
I ordered a chibson from a private seller. It showed up with a cracked headstock so they're sending me a new one for free and ill fix this one. But I have ordered all new pots, 2 seymour duncan pickups, grover tuners, and a few other things. Will be posting a video when I get it all set. Ive had 3 chibsons before and I loved them
Chibsons have definitely developed a niche on youtube. You can be sure the comments are always lively, it's a polarizing subject. After 10 years of consternation I broke down and bought a few from Ebay. There are good sellers there (always check feedback) with guitars already in the US. Just browse them a while, then wait. The sellers get notifications you viewed their guitar, and they'll shoot you a lower offer. No long wait from China, often free shipping in a few days. I've been lucky so far, and have some nice replicas of what I consider iconic guitars for ridiculous prices. They've all needed fret polishing, new strings, fine tuning, etc. but very playable and look great. It's like buying a fake Van Gogh. I'm sitting here admiring a '58 korina flying V, an Angus Young SG, a Les Paul Supreme, and a Les Paul Orange Widow. All for what I was going to pay for an Epiphone Joe Bonamassa Les Paul. So judge me as you will, and I'll enjoy my guitars.
I had a few and kept one. So, after you spend $250-$300, etc, ALL electronics, wiring and hardware got to go, lol. Easily, another $200. After that and a proper setup, gluing in several frets that were never put in correctly and fret leveling, etc, they're pretty good. I've done several gigs with mine.
I can buy two Fender Custom shop strats for the price of one Gibson Les Paul Custom, not custom shop...just a LP Custom. Buy anything from Gibson Custom shop, make that 3 or 4 Fender custom shop strats for one LP. I think Fender Custom shop strats start somewhere around 3.5 grand?
I bought a black Chibson double neck. It's not too bad, there's a high fret on the 6 string neck and the hardware isn't great (although tuners are solid) and the pickups are not good, but that's all the stuff you'd expect to replace anyway. I bought it for a bit of fun and to learn how to swap pickups and do guitar work myself.
I got the same guitar a couple weeks ago and put an EMG 81 in it and some locking tuners. I love the single pickup guitar and hate buying the ZW 81/85 set when I only use the bridge anyway. I think I'm going to get the white one also.
Chibsons are getting good man, I think the really good ones are becoming less rare. I bought one recently 350$ CAD and it beats all of my epiphone LP, almost as good as the 3 real Gibsons I have after a bit of setup. No fretwork needed thankfully
The trick is getting one with a maple top. Customs were mahogany tops way back when so if you've got a "'hog" top you're historically there. The one I just got had hot ceramic pickups, 12K+, with stainless back plates and brass covers, might sound decent but I already had Slash custom Probuckers. The tuners and the bridge were trash but I pulled everything but the strap buttons and the plastics.
People can complain about the price for a Les Paul. Send those same people out to buy a Gibson SD-200 acoustic guitar. Some can cost over $6k. I've even seen Hummingbirds with a starting price of $2.9k. If someone truly wants a genuine LP, they'll gladly pay the money and not complain about the price. I want an American made Martin. Sure, average price is about $2,500.00. Some can cost over $7k. But am I complaining? No. I'm doing it the old fashion way. It's known as saving my pennies. If I want a Martin, I'll buy a Martin. No substitutes and I'm not complaining about the prices either.
@@stanlee-eq7lu Beyond virtue signaling what's your point? Whatever the differences are between Western and Chinese markets and makers and whatever Chinese guitar factories motivations are people buy these guitars by the 10s if not 100s of thousands. Are you judging every one of them?
I have one too. I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'd say it's not quite as nice as an epiphone inspired by Gibson series guitar but it comes pretty close. Same as you, mine needed a little bit of fret dressing but overall after it acclimated to my home it is a pretty fun guitar to play. One day I may bite the bullet and buy a real Gibson and then this one will just be a wall hanging. I think of it as a pretty cool three dimensional, playable tribute to Gibson. The electronics are not awesome. I may throw in some Zakk EMG pickups in as a fun project. Great project guitars too, on that note. It's a gamble buying these but you can get lucky.
My chibson is amazing ive had it for 6 years, no regrets. My Earts are better in every way. The prices fluctuaute a LOT though, so If youre buying a copy of a classic design, eart teles and leo jaymz superstrats are lower price and better in every conceivable way
It's funny after watching the rest of the video. I NEEDED a pickguardless gold top, and the real one was 30x what I paid for my chibson. I bought so many tools to work on it, thing is like a Honda Civic, little things go wrong here and there but it's a reliable lil beast of a guitar
If you are happy with your Chibson, then just say that and keep it pushing. All that extra stuff where you criticize the next man over how he spends his money just makes you sound insecure, jealous and bitter.
your argument, "who has 5k to buy & burn on a guitar" is morally flawed. A 300$ knockoff isn't an alternative to anything at that price, & there are many excellent high-end guitars for much less than 5k anyway. Why even compare this to an actual LP? They have nothing in common aside from cosmetic appearance on camera. A more ethical comparison would likely be with some other guitar around the same price...no?
