  • Denny Hamlin and Jared Allen discuss Denny's loss in the final laps of the NASCAR Cup Series race in Texas. Denny explains the strategy behind racing Chase Elliott so hard, and what caused him to spin out. Is Texas Motor Speedway's paving to blame for the endless parade of cautions?
Denny then discusses the drivers' meeting with NASCAR about the failed short-track package and what changes NASCAR is willing to consider to fix it.
Denny also explains why seven-time NASCAR Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson is having his own struggles driving the NextGen car, and they hear from fans on #DearDenny.

As someone who's gone to Texas for decades now, those fence lights that were facing towards the fans that Denny talked about are gone. That or they're there and they don't use them. They also used to have caution lights in the actual surface against the wall for a few years. Have no idea why the fence lights are gone.

I don’t want you to end up like Mark Martin. A super elite talent that doesn’t get the credit he deserves. But to win you have to take chances. 2nd place is fine in the regular season but come playoff time it’s 1st or last.

I think many people regard Mark Martin as one of the greats still, despite no title. He won so many races, beating the best and frankly, the title of being a “champion” has never been the same, since the Chase format came in, in 2004 and I think it was further tarnished with this playoff format. Just my two cents. I think of Denny as one of the greatest drivers over the last twenty years.

If you want to change Texas, make it a smaller Fontana; flatter D-shaped oval that is still high speed. Make the pavement abrasive; don’t use the stuff from Michigan that is nuke-proof. Don’t put chemicals on it. Put the slightest bit of progressive banking in to make it multi-groove. Sweeping front straight away is safer than the three-section dogleg we have now and would still be OK for the grandstand configuration.
    No external infrastructure change needed.
I’ve put way too much thought into this; but honestly this is the kind of thing that could be modeled and iterated on iracing or other sims and I’d be very interested to see the results.

Not to rain on your parade but you’re describing what original Las Vegas and Kansas were. They were decent but not great. Plus if you do that then you have to wait another 3-5 years for the track surface to age in order to have an apron to wall racing groove. If you’re going to stay with the current walls it’s almost better to do a Homestead style banking. It’s more progressive and it’ll wear in faster.

The Caution before you wrecked at Texas seemed way too long . If you had 4 or 5 laps ,instead of green white checker things probably would have been different ????? Thanks for Your Time .

So you said that in the Xfinity series, the trailing car can pick the back end of the front car up because it messes with the air and in the next GEN cars they don’t do that but I believe I hear the announcers talk about it all the time you know, for instance Danny Hammond drove right up to the bumper of Joey Logano Took all the air off of his car push Joey up the track and Joey got loose here all the time is that different than what you’re saying and explaining that and you also do it on restricted tracks when you draft don’t go together away I’m asking for knowledge. I’m not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but you hear the announcers Larry MackKevin Harvick now Clint Boyer Darrell Tripp in the past year all these guys talk about the arrow push

Can we go back to five lug cars and narrow tires. Yes longer pit stops but I think the overall product was better.

They need to fix how lapped cars get their lap back. It's not really fair the cars more than 1 lap down because they have an unequal/unfair path to getting a lap back compared to everybody else. The 2 lap car could pass all the 1 lap cars (but he still has another lap to make up on them under green and there's just no way) but then still has to start behind them again on the next restart. He can't even get a lap back unless there are no other cars 1 lap down. It's not a just rule at all. They should get passes too to make it fair.

The number 3 was Kyle Bush winning number. I don't think that the family of Dale Sr. has any saying to decline Kyle proposition to run the number 3 car. RCR, was week on that proposal from Mr Bunch.
