This video was great! I had to run into Walmart yesterday to pick up an item when I realised I was a bit dehydrated. I was not going to pay $2.79 for an 8 oz bottle of water. I was at the back of the store so took a chance on the water fountain by the restrooms. The fountain was sparkling clean, the water icy cold and tasty. What a freaking surprise! A store employee saw my shocked expression and told me that fountain is actually filtered. They also clean it throughout the day. It's a well known secret amongst the employees. They use the fountain to fill the water bottles they carry around the store while working.
High School drinking fountains were the craziest! They had wildly differing pressure, so one always overshot the basin, while another one trickled out so little as to be unusable. Good times!
I want a t-shirt that says “I survived a ‘70’s childhood”, with stick figures biking along busy roads, walking on railway tracks, and drinking from water fountains!
Well, they ARE bubblers. It was created in Wisconsin and called as such because it bubbled up. A water fountain is a decoration at a park 🤷♀️⛲️ You can drink from them if you'd like. But a bubbler is indeed a bubbler. Just like people calling a carbonated beverage soda, pop, coke, or even soda pop. I prefer soda, but even in Wisconsin, depending on the region, I've heard it every way. It is what it is at the end of the day lol. It's not that serious except the coke one to me is a bit confusing only because I think it's just dumb to add an extra step to ordering what specific kind you want (or just accepting an actual Coke lol). To each their own, though.
Apart from the risk of waterborne diseases from the communal water fountain, did someone also determine that pre-2000s children were severely dehydrated? Because the water bottles kids lug to school now are MASSIVE!
Lol, yet people are getting listeria (one of the most common waterborne illnesses) from things like lettuce 🥬. Communal water fountains may have actually kept the pre 2000 kids safer, by boosting their immunity.😉
It's so true! And everywhere we went my mom always told me not to let my mouth touch the water fountain... Good times! 😭It's sad what children of today are missing out on. Thank you for the tribute and the memories ♥
The toilet seat should ALWAYS be down! WTG Penn Our downtown had bubblers with ice cold Bull Run water from our beautiful water shed. It was the best part of a day trip in the summer! And public works kept them functional and clean. Oh the good old days…
All the parks in my city are required to have water fountains and they’re usually pretty good. I love them, they better not be going anywhere! But I’m super thankful for water bottles too! Great song! By the way I absolutely love your new book! Especially the part about seeking stimulation and emotional flooding. Finally I don’t feel alone and like a bad kid for still having meltdowns at 15
Conversely, in my area all the water fountains have been *removed* from the parks and public buildings. If you want a drink you have to bring your own or buy water from the machine by the restrooms.
💖. Our local-state park purchased large, fancy, new water fountains, that even have an attached dog🐾 drinking-water fountain bowl ... which immediately fills with water when flipping on the human bubbler. 😃☺️😊 The stream-of-water is always cool, refreshing, and spurts out at an appropriate height-loop. 💞
Good morning, Penn, and that was absolutely fantastic!! And what a great homage to Queen and it was spot-on, effects and vocals, etc.; just another great video overall and yes, sadly the public water fountain, definitely a part of so very many of our childhoods, is indeed obsolete 😁
More often than not, the public water fountain doesn't work. But if it does work the water pressure trickles out a little or you get a jet that puts your eye out.
They still use the water fountains in school, they just use them to refill their water bottles. We actually have these fancy new add ons to the water fountains in the district I work in that have bottle filler pourer things (official name 😉) where you just place your water bottle under it and the water flows. It says it’s filtered, but who knows. I just know it’s how I refill my water bottle all day long. 😊
We still use water fountains all the time! One park we go to regularly it hasn't worked for several years, so I have to make sure we actually bring water bottles, and it's so annoying.
The sound of the compressor kicking on and then…. cold water! Usually at the big fancy metal indoor water fountains. I learned from the comments that it’s called a bubbler in Wisconsin. I’ve never heard of that before! 😂
It wasn't until I was in 4th grade that our school got a metal fountain with a compressor. Until then it was a white ceramic one with warm water. I remember being more excited to drink out of the new one, especially after gym class.
Exactly! We had these amazing things called "drinking fountains" at school, at work, in malls, at Disneyland, everywhere! The water might have been warm, and sometimes came out at a trickle, but it was there!
Love the Queen editing! Yes, the water fountain is always there for us, especially when we've forgotten or are out of water! In Phoenix, they are implementing plans for new ones that will dispense cool water in some public locations, because Phoenix water found temps really are 120F in the summer!
Hilarious😂 Thanks for the memory! I went to Catholic school and only on the hottest days (we had no AC in those ‘old school’ schools) the nuns would take us in a line to the water fountain and count while we drank from it.
Nice that they let you get water, I remember asking my second grade teacher to get water and she said, "If I let you go get water, I'll have to let everyone". I was like, so what, they're probably thirsty, too! Lol.
Man these kids complain if there’s no ice in their water bottle. We were definitely not spoiled, but he gave us life skills and taught us to be thankful.
The four Penn ode to the Bohemian Rapacity part of the video literally made me laugh so hard that it brought tears to my eyes. Great job at taking a comedic song to the next level. #adhdisawesome!
We used to go on all day hikes with no water. You were supposed to get liquid from the hard pink tomato and orange. I always got headaches. I wished for a nasty water fountain then!
We drank out of everything, the outside faucet, the hose, sprinklers, water fountains with wads of gum, Kleenex, and whatever in the drain. Kim, you're just like me. When I take a picture of even my cat, I look around to see if there's an empty cup, cabinet door open, something on the floor before I take it. LOL I don't even like if my bed hasn't been made.
Water fountain factory pressure settings: 1)The French kiss of hydration or 2) Public shower with your clothes on. Special tubing inside to make the water taste like someone just mopped the floor with it.
Penn has a point... we're practically the same age, and back then, public water fountains were used frequently. I never used one that had no pressure, but who knows how many times I got strep throat from those things. 😄
Oh my stars.. don’t know where you went to school… water fountains where I lived were fresh, clean and no one ever had to put their mouth around them because the pressure was so high you would get splashed or drowned
About your podcast, season 7, episode 22 (aired in June)- Amy Hann was your guest speaker. Didn’t know where to comment. Promise I’m only 41… so not that old 😆 Amy is my neighbor, few houses down, and it’s been a privilege to know her given her general AWESOMENESS, and her great family, and beyond that her ADHD specialty. Our little girls are like sisters. We are a bi-racial family of 5, I am a minority, Hispanic (from Puerto Rico), my husband born and raised in Florida. Over the last few years, I’ve become aware of ADHD and how it has been affecting our lives. In the podcast episode When Amy spoke about homeschooling and traditional schooling, I personally know that it made a positive difference in our lives to pause homeschooling for a semester. My husband and I have somewhat goofy personalities and have humor as a key feature of our family culture. We are new to making videos but wanted to relay our homeschool vs public school journey in hopes in can help and inspire others. We did not mention of ADHD just yet, but as we continue to grow in understanding of it, we will look to add our story given the effects it has had for us with familial relationships given the lack of awareness and might I say ACCEPTANCE and VALIDATION in the Hispanic community. I think you guys will resonate with the style of our video. th-cam.com/video/fzslVenCNaM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=coZyMYb50PlCH3R3 Appreciate what you do greatly. Thank you for bringing awareness and “AWESOMENESS” to ADHD! God bless you. ~Zoe and Joey FYI- YOUR LINKS on that podcast description, for TH-cam and something else I clicked weren’t working. I didn't drink water at school, I had a juice box at lunch and that was it. Even as a child I recognized how gross it was to all suck water from the same tap. 😅
I still drink from one daily, working in a public school. Imagine all the money I am saving not buying fancy bottles, plus it's got to be building up my immune system.
Another fine film! I hope water fountains don't get such a bad rap that they get taken out. I still seek them out at airports. I'm not paying that much money for water.
I’ll never forget going to the water fountain and someone has spit a giant quid into the drain. It was there for DAYS and would dance when the water would hit it. I would not drink out of it until someone finally cleaned it. 😝
I TOTALLY use public water fountains. To fill my water bottle. For 20 years, I just used the store-bought 1L water bottle till it sprang holes from the plastic flexing. Now I have a real one that I use for years (till it breaks...and then I replace the cap if possible). The fountains with bottle-filling features are my FAVE, but I'll just fill from the fountain if needed (or a sink...or ANYWHERE with fresh and safe liquid). But...man, those short drinks from the fountains that barely dribbled? ::sad:: Chicago's park district parks have water fountains with no buttons so that there is less to repair. ...And from May or June through August or September? They just all in "always on" mode. I wonder how much well-filtered, safe drinking water is wasted every year with those.
Fun story. I actually saw a public water fountain last weekend when I took my kid to a birthday party at the roller skating ring in Philly that I went to as a kid. It was still there shockingly.
I miss public water fountains. I liked them, except when they wouldn't spout up high enough to drink. I love that you give clips after the video about making the videos. Also, Penn acts so much like my son! The only difference is my son can focus on something he's interested in (like when he put a new pump in our swamp cooler when he was around 15 or so years old), and he isn't scattered. I referred him to this channel, and he said he was already familiar with it.
Funny story, the other day our friends kids had to go down to the water fountain on near their house to see if it was working, like some kind of first sign of summer, and they were so excited it was on. So, even today's kids still use them.
My middle school had water fountains scattered everywhere. Most were dirty or broken and hot. but there were a few broken ones that were so cold that they was a least 3 kids trying to force there way to the fountain. It just seemed so much worse than the ones every kid at the playground was waiting for cause at least it was little kids with adults watching and controlling. And sure the play ground ones were hot and dirty but at least kids weren't swarming the thing from all sides ready to insult anyone in their way
I remember when my school got a new water fountain in the 90s and it made cold water, but it would run out, so everyone would get mad if one kid drank a lot.
Where I grew up we had a ton of fights at the Water Fountain because someone would take too long. Our teachers didn’t bother to count for us, it was a battle royal over basics like water, un-refrigerated milk and snacks. As a gen X only the strong survived. 😂
Toilet seat = Kim is 100% right. Dear People of the world, put the toilet seat down! Put the lid down! CLOSE the toilet!!! Don't be gross! That is all.
Great video! So when they said "Just Penn" I thought of "I'm just Ken" from the Barbie movie. Haha! Maybe an idea for a song, "I'm just Penn!". Could be awesome! Haha! Love your work! Thanks for all you do!
This video was great!

Buy a Brita Water Filter.
@theholdernessfamily you should make a Houdini paordy
And now they have water fountains that are also water bottle filling stations.
Complete with bacteria!
Those are my favorite! Filtered and cold and space to quickly fill my bottle!
I love how you manage to find a song for any inanimate object. Excellent work, as always! 😂
I’d say it’s Penn’s special talent! Thanks for watching
It's the awesome ADHD brain 🧠💪🏿 🎉
High School drinking fountains were the craziest! They had wildly differing pressure, so one always overshot the basin, while another one trickled out so little as to be unusable. Good times!
And you never knew when it might just hit you in the face!
Same experiences here.
Queen homage is spot on!
Thank you 😂
The teachers counting 😆
I like how you add the behind the scenes at the end.
How did we survive our childhood! I agree it is a film!
Only 3 ounces of water at a time!
I want a t-shirt that says “I survived a ‘70’s childhood”, with stick figures biking along busy roads, walking on railway tracks, and drinking from water fountains!
Was to keep the line moving. Both to keep the row of kids patient for their turn, and because there was only a short amount of time for it.
Movie is a moving picture, so yeah, it is a short movie!
How many Flu Bugs did we bring home to our parents?
In my best Charlie Berens voice "You mean a bubbler?"
You beat me to it!!!! LOL!
Well, they ARE bubblers. It was created in Wisconsin and called as such because it bubbled up. A water fountain is a decoration at a park 🤷♀️⛲️ You can drink from them if you'd like. Yep. Wisconsin rules
The Racine Zoo was where I remember the bubbler the most back in the late 50’s, 60’s.
I love how you bring back all the memories of my childhood. Thank you!

"At least put the toilet seat down." Bahaha! :D
This is the most epic full-length feature film I’ve ever seen! I loved the 4 Penn’s queen shoutout!
I miss water fountains. Free hydration in a time of need.
Thanks, Covid.
It's so true! And everywhere we went my mom always told me not to let my mouth touch the water fountain... Good times! 😭It's sad what children of today are missing out on.
Thank you for the tribute and the memories ♥
Ah yessss. The memories 😊! The water fountain totally deserves its own song! Thanks Penn!
"Just Penn" oh the burn... Public water fountains and garden hoses. Nice tune, loved the 4 Penn Queen parts too.
I love your behind the scene looks at all your videos. Thanks for including those.
The Four Penns are perfection!
We had to pay homage!
The toilet seat should ALWAYS be down! WTG Penn

Hearing “Just Pen” made me think - have you done a “Just Ken” parody yet? 😄
The water fountain in the public library was (is?) The worst, hot, and tasted like pure metal.
More often than not, the public water fountain doesn't work. But if it does work the water pressure trickles out a little or you get a jet that puts your eye out.

Penn, loving your animated antics when you make your videos! Your voice and your acting are everything! Soooo Good! You should be on Broadway!!!!!!!
This is awesome! lol…took me back to the 70/80s!
Man these kids complain if there’s no ice in their water bottle. We were definitely not spoiled, but he gave us life skills and taught us to be thankful.
The harmony faces in the dark is 🤌🏼! Queen is the best!!
So much simpler. My kids’ water bottles are the bane of my existence
I love the outtakes at the end of a hilarious vlog!! 💜
Another thing that I had almost forgotten about. I always avoided them if I could.😂
A relic of my childhood. Love it.
I love that you found a fountain that actually works... we have newish playgrounds...and fountains that I've never seen work.
No, you're right. This was a documentary.😂
Same with Contagion, from Matt Damon. Sci-Fi/Thriller, back in 2011, but a Documentary now?
The four Penn ode to the Bohemian Rapacity part of the video literally made me laugh so hard that it brought tears to my eyes. Great job at taking a comedic song to the next level. #adhdisawesome!

It’s a bubbler. -Dana from Wisconsin
YES!!! ❤
Scottish Water have updated the public water fountains to Public water bottle refill points in our town/city centers
And if you were the first to the fountain, you had to use part of your time waiting for the water to get colder.
I was immediately wow'ed by the Queen reference with the four heads on the black background. Very cool effect!
Love it! Love that you are doing more music videos! Makes me very happy
" Would you at least put the toilet seat down?" 😂😂😂
The water being 150 degrees is too spot on, every. Single. Fountain. Here in the tri city's 😅😂
We drank out of everything, the outside faucet, the hose, sprinklers, water fountains with wads of gum, Kleenex, and whatever in the drain. Kim, you're just like me. Bubbler!!! I’m a Wisconsinite!! We call it a bubbler!
Yes! ❤
As a runner, public water fountains are a life saver!!

Great harmonies! Enjoyed!
I didn't drink water at school, I had a juice box at lunch and that was it. Even as a child I recognized how gross it was to all suck water from the same tap. 😅
As a runner, I am still using the public fountains!
The toilet seat. 🤣🤣Everything was spot on for my childhood. Water was only hot when you were first or the water hose just got turned on.
That's called a bubbler around here.
You must live in Wisconsin!
Holderness channel is the soundtrack to my life!
I still drink from one daily, working in a public school. Imagine all the money I am saving not buying fancy bottles, plus it's got to be building up my immune system.
Water fountains! I have not seen them in decades and I don't miss them at all! But it was a great song!
Loved that line about it being the only source of water for kids, having raised three kids who never drank water at home.
Another fine film! I hope water fountains don't get such a bad rap that they get taken out. I still seek them out at airports. I'm not paying that much money for water.
Hahaha the BTS was great!
I’ll never forget going to the water fountain and someone has spit a giant quid into the drain. It was there for DAYS and would dance when the water would hit it. I would not drink out of it until someone finally cleaned it. 😝
I will still use the water fountain if one is available....whatever we drank as kids, made our guts strong!
I've seen people drink with their lips over the metallic water piece.

Fun story. I actually saw a public water fountain last weekend when I took my kid to a birthday party at the roller skating ring in Philly that I went to as a kid. It was still there shockingly.
My city upgraded their water fountains to include water bottle refill stations now.
Honestly, we should go back to this and if there is no fountain nearby we should lick a doorknob once a week to build our immunity.
Hope everything is ok, it’s been a few months….
Funny story, the other day our friends kids had to go down to the water fountain on near their house to see if it was working, like some kind of first sign of summer, and they were so excited it was on. So, even today's kids still use them.
It has been 5 months since the last full video... I think I am going through withdrawal!!! Need more Holdernesses, please!
We'd get 3 mississippis worth of water every time we were thirsty in K-5th grade.
Re Kim saying at the end, "You're just Penn"..... is there an "I'm Just Ken" parody planned? because it would definitely be awesome 😁
Here in Wisconsin, we call these ‘bubblers’.
You betcha! 😂
THIS was my kindergartener's issue, "She says, 'One, two, three, that's enough for me," and it's NOT, Mommy, it's not!"
My middle school had water fountains scattered everywhere. Most were dirty or broken and hot. but there were a few broken ones that were so cold that they was a least 3 kids trying to force there way to the fountain. They're still life-savers in airport departure lounges 😁
How did you even find a working water fountain to shoot the video? HA!!!
Where I grew up we had a ton of fights at the Water Fountain because someone would take too long. Our teachers didn’t bother to count for us, it was a battle royal over basics like water, un-refrigerated milk and snacks. As a gen X only the strong survived. 😂
Our park had a water fountain inside a lion's head. It took lots of courage to drink from it.
We still have a water fountain at my church! Some of the parks have fountains but I don’t know if they work anymore!
Toilet seat = Kim is 100% right. Dear People of the world, put the toilet seat down! Put the lid down! CLOSE the toilet!!! Don't be gross! That is all.
Yes! Think about the fact that the bowl water aerosolizes when you flush.
Proof you can make a song about anything.
The still have them in Brazillian airports. My kid (age 6) was fascinanted 😂
You need to do one of these for pay phones! Lol!
Jesus loves you all
Great video! So when they said "Just Penn" I thought of "I'm just Ken" from the Barbie movie. Haha! Maybe an idea for a song, "I'm just Penn!". Could be awesome! Haha! Love your work! Thanks for all you do!
I never minded a public drinking fountain...until I saw a dog make out with it.
Public Water Fouintains is whey Gen X is as tough as we are! Loved the 4-face look!!
I cringed at every single one of the pictures. 🤣 I"m so thankful we've evolved to insulated water bottles!
