I was thinking about making something similar to this for a buddy but sadly I don't have a lathe any idea of how I could change this design to work without one?

Thanks for watching, I suppose you could just make small box with a pillar that sticks up through the lid and then just file the ring section as rounds as you can. if you compound mitred
your joints it could look really good
