beginning turner here, ambitions for making rings for friends and family - you are an amazing teacher, love your videos - thanks for taking the time and effort to make them for the rest of us!
I’m a woodworker in my spare time and I’ve made wood rings before and my friend asked if I could make them a ring just like this. I’m really glad you broke all of the steps down and made the process easy to understand.
Thank you ! Your detailed explanation along with your calm tone throughout is extremely helpful to me. You make it seem easy ! One question or favor … Is it possible to show a clip of you cutting the wood in half? You had to step off camera for that segment. Thanks again :)
I think it was amazing you left some roughness of the Wood instead of sanding it totally smooth/flat. Being buried beneath the CA allowed for a 3D relief effect of the Wood's surface. That hit me right at the end as you were showing the finish. Cracking the ring was epic. dang
Great video. Thorough explanation at every step of the operation. I may never turn a ring although I have one of those boring heads in my shop. But I have an appreciation for the care and craftsmanship required for this craft. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, skill and time.
Thanks for this great instructional video. Really appreciate you going over the details and potential problems making the ring. Outstanding camera work and detailed explanations also. Heading over to get a 1mm parting tool :). I already have the mandrel. Thanks again.
The amount of time and energy that goes into making this is unreal, how much do you charge for one of these? I can't imagine these being easy to reproduce even if you did batch them. I get it looks better, but man, what an amount of labor to get this effect. As a side note, thank you for all your tips and recommendations! I use all your tools!
Wow. I'm just getting into wood lathe work. I think lathe is a bit to big but I'm gonna keep an eye out for a table size lathe. Thank you for the video. BTW what do the rings sell for?
Very very cool!! What a great in-depth video that was so well explained every step of the way. Great job and a fantastic looking end result. Kudos to you. Cheers!
Best video. Tanks. One question: Have you ever tried using self-solid PU varnish? Used a lot in automobiles. I like the result of the PU varnish and its qualities.
You could use a laser to cut the centre out. You'd have to mill up a board to the right thickness first but you could batch out loads from one board. Co2 or Diode laser will cut that thickness of wood.
Hi Mike In your making a wood inlay ring video you show the artisan ring chick. However you have an extra piece in there holding the ring. You show the first 2 adapters facing each other and then the ring. When I use the adapters it doesn’t allow me to cut deeper because you hit the adapters. What is the extra piece that is holding your ring? Thanks, Mike
Love your videos. 😃Great voice for narrating. Thanks for putting them together and sharing. My question is: I have an acrylic blank that I want to turn, then inlay in my ceramic 10mm channel core. It won’t split like wood so any suggestion to get it in 2 pieces that will go back together well, is appreciated. I have some ideas but would rather not "experiment" with a ring blank that wasn’t cheap. Thanks.
That sure turned out nice. Your Video is about an 1 1/2 long is that actual time it took to make this ring? and what would you retail a ring like that for?
Thanks for being detailed, but this was way to complicated for a much easier build. Product plugs. But for complete beginner this is a lot of good info
Great video! You mentioned opening your boring head 1/16", in reality your cut would be 2/16" or 1/8". Know how I know, I have been there & done that. One learns fast from his mistakes.
Just wanted to share with you above EZ-WOOD I use the Negative rake tips square cutting tool on my EZ-WOOD tool. I was having my pens blowing up for some reason as soon as started using them I haven't had any of my pens blowing up any more. Hope this is info for you or 1 of the viewers watching this video.
Ring drill bits are cheating, I realize that now. I want to be able to make such pretty rings for my loved ones. I get used to making them, maybe to sell.
@imakrewitatl When I first wanted to try making rings, my mom found some drill heads with cutting surfaces spaced, so it cut Asian size rings. I was not aware that ring sizes are different by region before this.
I love all your videos, but this one has got to be one of the BEST detailed videos you've done.

@@CraftSuppliesUSA is there anything I should be careful about when working with a Damascus stainless steel ring core?
Literally was looking for this video from you guys 8 hours ago, and here it is! Thanks you guys!
Happy to help!

Thank you for sharing your craft! I learned so much and appreciate how transparent and realistic you were with us.
Great video, thank you so much. Never seen anything like making a ring like this. Truly enjoyed it

Great video! Just getting started in turning. This is a must do for the teenage grandkids!!! I'll be back.
Thank you for watching! 😊

If you are not making rings, what other applications are you using your boring head for, if I may ask? Thanks.
Very nice, step by step and understandable explenation! Greetings from Belgium.
Glad you enjoyed it! -Mike 😊
This video is really good, with so much information for newbies. Thanks

You have a great presentation. You made me want to make some
Fantastic video, great detail very informative and interesting to watch. And a beautiful ring at the end.
Another great video! The attention to detail is fantastic.
fantastic job! just amazing, great video!
You make this look so easy!!

Honestly you want a heavy lathe, it'll be more accurate. I bought mine from an estate auction/sale.

Thanks so much. I ordered my first batch of supplies today but had not seen this video so I didn’t order any of this type but be assured I will.
Where did you buy youre ring
From Craft Supplies. Just not an inlay type.
Best video. Tanks.
One question: Have you ever tried using self-solid PU varnish? Used a lot in automobiles. I like the result of the PU varnish and its qualities.
For a better break, make 2 small cuts into each side in the wood with a band saw that will be eventually sanded away. The break will be much cleaner.
Very good instruction video. Q. Where to buy basic ( ceramic) rings.
Thanks for the video!!
You could use a laser to cut the centre out. You'd have to mill up a board to the right thickness first but you could batch out loads from one board. Co2 or Diode laser will cut that thickness of wood.
Very detailed. Thank you .

extremely detailed.... Thanks much.
You're very welcome!
Excellent video!
Are rings like this able to get wet? Maybe not completely submerged in water but would rain or hand washing damage the wood?
If they are finished with CA, they can get wet. The thin CA wicks into the fibers of the wood and seals them so water cannot penetrate.
Love your videos. 😃Great voice for narrating. Thanks for putting them together and sharing.

Acrylics break very cleanly. Make sure you have it in a vice right at the center point and you should have no problem breaking it.
@@aventador832 Thanks for the quick reply. Good info to know. I’ll test it out.
Yes you can! Acrylics break with a very clean seam and are able to be glued back together with an almost invisible seam. - Mike
Where do you buy those ring thanks jean
How much do u sell those rings for and how long do they take u to make normally.
That sure turned out nice. Your Video is about an 1 1/2 long is that actual time it took to make this ring? and what would you retail a ring like that for?
Great video, great beard 👍🏻
Beautiful !
what would you charge for that ring, if you were to sell it? not asking to buy it just curious the value.
very informative, thank you
Great video
My wedding ring is a titanium with an oak wood core. I noticed there is a small hole going through the wood. Is it supposed to be there?
If you’re using a ca finish and stabilized wood blank , wood movement should not be an issue.
How do you fix a blank that has released from the waste block? The blank has been cored out. Thanks
Thanks for being detailed, but this was way to complicated for a much easier build. Product plugs. But for complete beginner this is a lot of good info
This would be sooo much easier with a metal lathe because of the cross support. ^^
54:30 you should try rubberized ca glue, the only downside is that it's black
do you have to have the boring system
Yes we do, here's a link: www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/72/7241/artisan-Ring-Boring-Head-and-Cutter-Set

Ring drill bits are cheating, I realize that now. I want to be able to make such pretty rings for my loved ones. I get used to making them, maybe to sell.
Which drill bits are you referring to?
@imakrewitatl When I first wanted to try making rings, my mom found some drill heads with cutting surfaces spaced, so it cut Asian size rings. I was not aware that ring sizes are different by region before this.
I’ve made tons of similar rings with pre-made bands. I will say though that if you’re not making the band you haven’t made a ring yourself.
So....just thinking...if I buy an inlay ring with one side screwed on, it will cut the process with 45 min.....😂
29:46 ...summer...
So they shot it back in summer.....so?
An hour and a half video and you don’t have time to show us breaking the blank. Your whole point is a solid piece of wood and you miss that out.
Hİ👋👌👍👏
veneer IS solid wood
Fantastic video!
