From a limerick man who was a very impressionable 12 years old when I 1st heard murmurs of a special talent in kilkenny on the rise I genuinely think he took hurling to another level and was also way tougher than he was ever credited for. To me , he's the best of my lifetime. Nobody else changed how young players wanted to play so much.
Absolutely class without a question of a doubt, had the privilege of seeing him in action many times, the buzz in the crowd when he had the ball the magic he could and did produce every game, his speed of foot was incredible nobody had or could do the same what he did, for many years he literally dragged kilkenny through to finals, yes he was never fantastic in some finals because he was double and triple marked which of course would reduce his effectiveness but to me by a country mile the most exciting fantastic forward of any era and I've seen many incredible players throughout the years.
Brilliant hurler as a Wexford man one of the greatest gaa hurlers of all time he broke many Wexford players hearts and Wexford fans hearts super player one of the greatest ever
I had the pleasure of marking him on 3 occasions and kept him scoreless on all 3. From me the greatest player of all time, it wasn’t all about his scores him and carter had a connection like no other. The dodgers hand pass was a bullet there were so many facets to his game. He just created the silence that edge of the seat........ here it comes......score!!!

Top forwards i have seen Jimmy Doyle, Eamonn Cregan, Henry Sheflin, Eddie Keher, but D J Carey was the greatest . Pure natural genius.
Dj was class but each generation has there best hurlers , dj was one of them , don’t forget christy ring etc
