Not only the best GAA documentary of all time but up there with the greatest sports documentaries. This is the GAA's "The Last Dance". It all came together like magic for Pat Comer, sub goalie & filmmaker. Deserves a bigger audience as it still seems quite a cult film.
What a great orator and coach John O was , no effin and blinding but all positive affirmations, ahead of his time , RIP John and Thank you , from a Limerick fan
Well said...there's a lesson in it for any aspiring managers...not just important about what you say but how you say it. He was very clever with the little grenades he used throw in..constantly motivated and kept them on their toes.
This is everything a documentary should be. An impartial glass pane into the season. More importantly , it captured the essence of that team. Sean Og, Donnellan, Joyce. Those biys were unbeatable. Absolute poetry in motion. #jais the man ...the postman always delivers
Best of luck to Galway on Sunday, they bring an excitement and skill that is unmatched by any other county. I hope they do it and inspire another generation.
Thank you Johno for giving us the greatest days of our lives. We will never forget you. May the man above who sent you to Galway in 1998 find a comfortable place for you for eternity.
RIP John O’Mahony a man who lived in County Roscommon even in the years he was managing Leitrim and Galway before all Ireland glories. A native of Kilmovee county Mayo.
1998: We beat Derry in semi final and win the Sam Maguire. 2001: We beat Derry in semi final and win the Sam Maguire. 2022: We beat Derry in semi final and…… Poor ould Kerry don’t stand a chance! A week til Sunday 😍
Dublin fan, stumbled across this. Great documentary, I had never seen it before. Mad to see Mick Byrne helping out. Firstly, I thought he was soccer only. Secondly, I thought he was Dublin only!
Prophetic words from John O'Mahony when he said the extra game against Roscommon would be the making of them. Funny enough Roscommon helped Galway in both '98 and' 01 by giving the big jolt they needed to go on and improve and win the All-Ireland. RIP John O'Mahony.
@@shaneheff5244 He was living in county Roscommon in the years he won all Irelands with Galway in 1998 and 2001 and Galway beat Roscommon in both of those years and they were the 98 Connacht final and the 2001 All Ireland quarter final.
As painful as it is to watch this... I appreciate the upload... I was at every game that year bar the final... Couldn't get a ticket for the final.. Watched it in some dodgy pub on Talbot Street.
That's the hard thing about the GAA, sometimes real fans get shut out of seeing the finals from the stands. It's all about "who you know", Ireland in a microcosm really.
Brought Mayo to their first final in 38 years, won Leitrim their first Connacht title in nearly 70 years, won Galway’s first All-Ireland in three decades. A Connacht GAA great.
I watched this game in friends house in Tallaght Galway defender touched ball on the ground in front of his own goal with 2 minutes left and ref ignored it. GAA always like a draw
@ 50:22 It's the culmination of the Bank of Ireland football championship of 1998 between the two teams they have gone through over 800 training sessions hours and hours of talks and training and it came down to the final time. over the years in galway there is talks that there's been talk that weather we beat Mayo and Roscommon within the same championship year that we'll go on to win the Sam Magire cup. Not since 1966 gave galway have won it not since 1928 have kildare have won it

Yerra...you don't win anything for semi finals.
still gives me goosebumps
Football badly needs the likes of Galway, Cork, Meath, Kildare, Down and Derry back competing at the top level.
Galway and Derry back in a semi final now!
Rest in Peace - the great John O'Mahony. Ye broke our hearts that day but what a great team those Galway lads turned out to be.
RIP Mick O'Dwyer
Rip john O' Mahony. Thanks for the memories 😢, hopefully we get over the line on Sunday.🤞
We need more of these guys today ja Fallon was class

Emotional watch. Was at the semi and the final as a young lad. Simpler times
a masterpiece....i cant say anything more
Galway were 25 years ahead of Netflix!
The Guard when galway scored ahahaha
Still brings chills great memories and the great Michael o murahortaig commentating dosent get any better
Great times back then, I holidayed in Galway two weeks before the final, fantastic atmosphere. Sure was a great team, and again in 2001

The one county that John O’Mahony has never managed in Connacht is Roscommon where he’s currently living in.
He never managed Sligo afaik.
@@TheLastAngryMan01 in 1998 he won a Connacht medal as a manager against the county that he was residing in at the time and that was the Rossies.
