it doesn’t always have to be like that. jk rowling remained in almost sole control of the harry potter film series until it’s end. it’s hard, it takes time and work, but it’s possible. in fact you can see that now, he may have lost control at a point but he regained it.

Maryjane wasn't super hot in the comics either, she was decently hot, it was believable in normal people terms, everything about the Sam raimi series was. Also, he wasn't really supposed to be $16 at all in the movie, more like 18, that's why he graduated so fast, because his character was supposed to be in college. Spiderman, not spiderteen. The movie was perfect, the remakes were both trash, they tried to be the comic too hard, and it gave the movies no soul. Sam raimi had the feeling it was Spiderman. You can't tell me they compare in any way. Green goblin was an amazing Villan, dock ock was too, I didn't like sand man or venom tho, they ruined venom, but that was the fault of sony

I may been wrong, but I really felt that is what was missing. And apparently a lot more people felt it needed something cause viewership dropped so low that the show was cancelled.

I'm older...in my 50's and I appreciated the show when it 1st came on. I watched it with my son and we laughed together while I taught and explained he learned and got a better understanding of life and our history...great show!
i remember taking my uncle's DVD set of Boondocks when i was little and watching through all them even tho my mama kept hiding them. I definitely appreciated the stories and viewpoints from a young age

If McGruder has the helm I think it will be fine. It will not be season one, but it will at least convey a message like it use too. Season 3-4 are shit compared to the first two seasons. It's like they forgot to get a point across in each episode. It was just crazy bullshit happening for no reason except to keep the madness going. If he fails to scale back the bedlam that was Season 4. The show will bomb miserably.

Honestly glad I watched this. I could tell that Season 4 was off but the show had garnered sooo much good will with me. I let it slide. Just happy to have it back. Glad I know what happened behind the scenes. And excited to see this creator back behind the driver seat to his own show.

Y'all get all agitated when it comes to racism and act like it doesn't exist just because you didn't experiences it.
I'm white, and like Chapelle, I watched the Boondocks when I was younger and thought it was hilarious. It wasn't until I got older that I realized the mature themes it tackles, and like Chapelle, Aaron is able to convey a narrative without being divisive or offensive.
When you create comedy that's non-exclusionary, and makes fun of everything, and is funny to all audiences, it opens up discussion for everybody since there's no sense of bias. It breaks down any mental barriers and reservations you might have; when the show finally gets around to making fun of you, you've already seen the show make fun of everybody else, and it's just your turn.
I guess what I'm saying is that if the show talked about black issues, but the content only appealed to a black audience, the messages would be lost in an echo chamber. But because the show has the same kind of magic that Chapelle had, it enables those messages to be heard by everybody else in society since the show's content was enjoyable by people of literally every background.
Also, speaking of growing up and not realizing shit when I was younger:
How the fuck did I not know that black dudes LOVE anime, and fighting games? I fucking had nobody to play Street Fighter IV with in high school, and was too embarrassed to talk about how much I love anime. 😭

The most basic foundation to a free market society and self governing people is ownership.
Tyler Perry, Wu-Tang, Oprah, Duck Down Records and many others, never sold their rights.
Never never never, sell your rights to intellectual property.
The tree grows much slower but the harvested fruit is much sweeter.
My dude, he sold the rights to the show, but he did that to get the show syndicated. Otherwise he'd have been relegated to doing TH-cam work all by himself.
Animations are fucking tough, and I'm sure he was happy to have talented professional animators and writers working for him. This setup, no doubt, allowed for his creativity to flourish, and gave us MORE boondocks every year.
You're right about creative freedom, and an uncensored message; But he always had the rights to the intellectual property overall, otherwise he couldn't create more comics without the owners go ahead.

I think the problem was that Sony wanted to turn the Boondocks into something like the Simpsons, Family Guy or, more topically, South Park. But thats not what the Boondocks is - you don't have three Boondocks episodes a week because the Boondocks is about quality, not quantity.The reaosn why the first three seasons stick so well is becayse of that emphasis on good writing

It can be hard to please a lot of these big corporations. A lot of them want quantity over quality for the money but u can’t rush true art and expression of oneself and expect it to have the same feel. I always wished the seasons were made quicker but every time u see them, they’re always worth the wait.

God bless McGruder. I am a writer too, and, like him, am slow as well. Some are blessed with both speed and talent, but many of us like to take our time to craft the best possible work we can. Good for him and for sticking to his guns, I just hope the reboot is not canned due the chaos going on during this crazy year.
Corporate big wigs always mess up what make shows/videogames/movies successful by forcing the creators to move at to fast a pace or take away creative control from the people who made it good.

As an aspiring writer, it is my mission to not allow my grand project to be influenced by executive meddling in order to prevent stuff such as this.
that's the sad truth about working for corporations. its especially disheartening to here that some creators don't even own their work once they sign that contract. That's when the corporations can take advantage of a creators work without the creators approval. Moral of the story: read the contracts and don't just agree to it just because they sign you a big check.

I didn't realize how much Boondocks mean't to me until it was gone. I remember my middle and high school teachers talking about how amazing that show was and how relatable it felt to most students. I hope season 5 can reproduce that same feeling.

the boondocks means so much to me. as a biracial female who was only raised on the white side besides visiting my dad's side in Georgia every thanksgiving, watching the boondocks reminds me of the family i'm barely able to see and the culture that i was never able to be raised in. definitely my comfort show, always cheers me up when i'm feeling down. R.I.P John Witherspoon, and thank you for the amazing work you did on my favorite show.
Genius can not be rushed. McGruder maybe slow in producing scripts, but work always high quality and socially on target. That's the best aspect of anime series. We could always watch reruns in syndication or DVD until McGruder produced new shows.

It’s so sad to hear how Sony basically stole the boondocks from Aaron. It looks like this show was his magnum opus. And to have some big company ruin that for you must be a horrible thing to have happen.
He is lazy. We could have more seasons if hadn't been lazy. Boondocks could have been expanded into a universe but we only had three seasons.

There's a reason season 1 was so critically acclaimed whereas season 4 was so disliked.
