Your series has just been tremendous. BRILLIANT idea to promote Niki Hayes' book, interview, and interview with Stephen Hake. I am only partway through Hayes' book and just have so much more understanding for the man and methodology of John Saxon! It has given me the motivation and understanding I needed to switch our fumbling math attempts over to Saxon. I know I keep commenting just to say thank you, and again-- THANK YOU.
Oh my gosh thank you! I must say that I came to these conclusions after watching all your previous Saxon math videos, interviews, etc. and I was having my daughter use the videos by Nicole the Math Lady and then do every-other-problem because I thought that was okay. WELL!! After having a one month break from school due to an unavoidable family event, we came back with a new plan. My daughter had already finished the first 5 lessons of Saxon 54. I had her restart the book, no videos, 100% of the problems, now she is on lesson 7 and is doing so much better! The self teaching (though I am still by her side to talk her emotions down, as she tends to panic and not think through the problems when she thinks she is on her own) has been so effective and she is retaining the information in impressive ways! Thank you for making this video and please continue to make more!!
Good tips there Karen. It really comes down to discipline and not moving too quickly. I did wonder what the the third book was for. Thank you for the explanation.
Hello i have decided for my 4th grader to get saxon 54. However, i have a third grader and i would like something similar like saxon for her . Please any suggestions
Any suggestions on finding the tests for first editions algebra 1/2, algebra 1, and algebra 2? I have teacher editions (answers in the back). I realize I don't have the test answers either. Do they match up at all with the 2nd edition tests/answer keys?
Thanks for all your awesome, straight forward information. Love your channel! I have a question about Saxon for my son.. I pulled him out of public school half way through last year, and he tested into Saxon algebra 1 (he's a 12 year old, who was in advanced math in school). He has been going through it super slowly, and complains it's way too difficult. Is it bad to have him stop, and go back to algebra 1/2??
Just do the best that you can. A consistent 5 days or maybe he can at least do just one math lesson Saturday morning or take his RC book with him to read a couple of chapters.
Redo the daily lessons if less than 90-95% depending on what kind of errors (careless vs conceptual). Park it there if they score less than 80% on the test and go over concepts again.
As usual, another amazing video Karen, thank you so much! I noticed that you have several copies of each Saxon book. How come? Do you have more than one child in the same level? I have two kids, one doing Saxon and the other doing Life of Fred and now with Saxon textbooks being discontinued from 2024, my hoarding tendencies are coming on full force just in case my daughter decides she wants to do Saxon in the future! I’m looking for an excuse to buy more Saxon books haha!
Yes, with 6 kids this is my form of homeschool prepping lol I do have a couple in the same range. I pick them up whenever I see them for really cheap. I've given some away to local friends who have had trouble finding them too. I am planning on doing a chat video where I talk about the different editions/answer keys etc and how to get around some of the most common issues (like not being able to find a matching answer key).

Great, great job! It will get easier with time and consistency.

Thank you for watching and commenting :)
So do you do the meetinf time with your kids or do they do that alone, too
I don't know anything but Saxson. This is what my Mom used with me. I never went farther than Algebra 1/2, though.
I have been tempted myself looking at the advanced math and calculus book, to do it myself. I never got that far either.

It should but I don't know, it can be tricky. Ebay, Amazon, Abebooks, Homeschool Buy and Sell groups, etc.
Do I need the teachers book or can I just use homeschool packet with test forms and student book?
Just the homeschool packet with the answers and the test forms if you want to use them.
@@ourhouse thanks, we are all set for this year then!

Not at all, I would go back until it feels easy to him to gain confidence, and mastery.
My only issue is my oldest son goes to his dads on weekend so 6 day school week is hard for me to do With him. What should I do ?
Just do the best that you can. A consistent 5 days or maybe he can at least do just one math lesson Saturday morning or take his RC book with him to read a couple of chapters.
Would you now only redo a lesson if they score

Yes, RC recommends 6 days a week, year round.
