He was in Toronto, Canada this week, THIS WEEK, for Jazzfest. 2022, people. More than 54 YEARS after this recording was made. What an unstoppable force of nature. He still sings and moves like this, and it's a wonder to see live.
There are actually SIX ORIGINAL MEMBERS of The MIRACLES, as stated on the 1961 First Album…and ALL SIX are in the ROCK and ROLL HALL OF FAME : WILLIAM “Smokey” ROBINSON, his first wife, CLAUDETTE ROGERS-ROBINSON, her cousin, BOBBY ROGERS, RONNIE WHITE, PETE MOORE, and MARVIN “Marv” TARPLIN.
Al Cleveland (born Alfred W. Cleveland; March 11, 1930 - August 14, 1996) was an American songwriter for the Motown label. Among his most popular "co-compositions" are 1967's "I Second That Emotion" performed by Smokey Robinson & the Miracles.
I've seen him in person around 4 times and he's still great....and can still sing (most people don't sound as good when they get older). Puts on one hell of a show. A Motown legend. If you have a chance.....see him.
Only 45.800 views for an outfit that not only is legendary but downright influential? I mean, they not only were the bosses within American Black music, then just packed with towering excellence, but in the white mainstream too they were just bombarded with admiration and respect (Dylan was famously asked who, in his opinion, was the greatest American poet, and he answered in all seriousness and without irony: “Smokey Robinson!”), and across the pond in England were idolised by people like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones (and the Animals, and the Hollies, etc.), who covered them extensively and pinched their vocal harmonies wholesale. And this great video gets only a few thousand views? I know that intelligence and good taste are extinct but, Jesus Christ on a bike!........
Gio Curcetti, i think its because you are from Italietta. this was the era where Whites didn't allow him to use the bathroom in these premises. In the exact same venue, whites sat front and Black people sat on the back separated and distanced. when you compliment him, virulent racial animosity of 99% of whites was very real and in our faces.
Don't get me wrong Smokey is totally badass but his legs are pretty skinny and his voice seems a little squeaky on a few passages still S and the M will always be the one great part of musical history yeah
@@twong7544 Me too. I get what you’re saying though. His vocal control wasn’t that good whenever he started trying too hard…but it was better than those so-called dance moves of his though 😭. He should’ve kept things smooth. He looks and sounds better that way. Lol
My parents had literally just got married a few days before this appearance in 68. Thank you for airing this episode.this was when music was cool.
Also Martin Luther King was assassinated 4 days after this performance…..

Go, Smokey and guys! 👍 Motown Sound: The MGM Studio version of musical greatness.😎
This was great! I loved his segways in between to the next song. That's a great way to do a medley of songs. Thank you for sharing this.
It’s 2022 and I still appreciate this art of performing
How dulcet were the tones of Smokey? Absolutely beautiful voice

still so young in '68?!
Smokey
Smokey moves like a robot it’s so stiff and weird , But still amazing
His strengths definitely was singing and songwriting
@@Mythical444 Factz🤣🤣🤣
Haters
@@chayahel8805 dude this this happened back in 1968, ain’t nobody hating lol. Sit down somewhere.
Does anyone know why he never sang "Who's Loving You?" because it was his biggest success at the time
I think "Who's Loving You" was much earlier: it was released in 1960, and this performance is 1968.
@@susankennedy5739 If it is from 1960, but not even in those years did they sing it live, there is no report, perhaps it was very difficult to do it
Damn the audience couldn’t keep the beat 😵💫
they kept a good tone tho
The white people of the 60’s were not tuned in with the Soul Clap
Great song 🙂could do with a loving secretary to figure out modern computers 🙂.....really no kidding
I know Smokey got some much woman 😂 AND HE CAN SING
2:22 😂😂
Bro was grooving😂
Why didn't the singers in the chorus have their own mic?
Couldn’t dance to save his life!!
Smoke was so darn fine, with his cheating butt
And him and Diana are Michael’s real parents ;p
Yea....too bad he cheated so much. But I still have his recollection of 45s😅
@@vernonsmith6176 Believe it or not, hes Michaels father
Regardless of what happens to me from now until the end say yea or nea. All people. Democracy people
Damn they really cake him with white powder! That's messed up.
Smokey can't dance
Smokey Kokinson.......was this true..??? Der Begriff für Katastrofe...
Gordy said that michael jackson voice was better then smokey

Good song writer but never was a great singer to me
Exactly his voice was mediocre
Haters
His voice was just different… It sounded better during his solo career when he was older and started singing lower though
