The claim is around 800 Euro.... That is the rule position as per Geneva convention.

If the weight does exceed then the only thing which can be offloaded from the flight is cargo. The cargo which is offloaded is then send to the destinantion through another flight. This scenario happens in rare cases, forexample the weather is bad or there is more traffic, there is more fuel on board. For example : A A320 has MLW= 62500 kgs and MTOW = 83000kgs, the passengers to be loaded are 12000 kgs, cargo of 11000 kgs and fuel of 12000kgs that is 12000 + 12000 + 11000= 35000 + 44500 ( empty weight of an A320 ) = 79500 kgs Now this weight is subtracted from the trip fuel : 79500 - 8000 = 71500kgs 72500 kgs is higher than 62500 kgs therefore the pilot has to offload some cargo which is : 71500 - 62500 = 9000kgs of cargo is offloaded, this cargo is then send to the destination by another flight. :)
I see here some people talking about airline operational issues and all. FYI people carry those luggage for a reason, and they need it on time. Else who doesn’t like to keep the hands free? The manager at Patna looks to have acted like a crook, silently sending passengers to Delhi without luggage, achieving his immediate goal of weight reduction, and now Delhi staff has to deal with the mess he created. Now should anyone be worried about operational issues, after being played by the airline managers.
The problem looks to me as if the front office staff are not empowered to take any decision, but pass info that is told to them. Secondly, The email id is a generic one, they should give the official email id of a concerned person if possible. Thirdly, the problem with cost cutting is too many things are compromised. Having said those, I would found out with the airport/airline managers what is the solution. Additionally, senior people, dont guide these front office staff sufficiently on phone, how to handle these crisis.
