Having been to BOTH a few times...PATTAYA hands down. Here is the list Pattaya has over Phuket:
    1) it's CHEAPER for EVERYTHING - by FAR!
    2) More of EVERYTHING (women, bars, massage parlors, restaurants, hotels, etc...)
    3) The nightlife is FAR more active (Walking Street, LK Metro, Beach road, Second Street, Soi Buckhao, etc...)
    4) Cheaper, and more abundant, transportation options.
More Malls, Shopping Centers, and food markets.

Been living in both and i love Pattaya the most. Its much cheaper to live in Pattaya. After the tsunami they did double the price on everything. If you go to a pharmacy to by a pack with imodium. You pay double price. I can go on and on with food and so on. Phuket look and feels more tropic. But i have to say that Pattaya wins and its just 1.5 hour to Bangkok or to airport.

I think phuket is more known for European tourist. It's definitely got that in the middle of nowhere vibe going whereas Pattaya seems more like a holiday weekend getaway from Bangkok vibe. This is one of the most useful videos I've seen. Thank you.

New subscriber, good informative video. I've been living in pattaya for 4 years, then moved to phuket and stayed for 7 years. In 2-3 months i will move back to pattaya.
Phuket has during high season very nice beaches with clear water. It has a chill tropical island atmosphere with a lot of young westerners or tourists with families, but pattaya has it too if go to Coral Island or further south to koh samet etc. it's the same island vibe feeling like phuket. Pattaya mainland itself has also some nice beaches like Wong Amat beach, Paradise beach, Yinyom beach, bangsaray beach or sai kaeo beach in sattahip.
Pattaya is very convenient regarding transportation, from pattaya can easily go by car or public transportation to bangkok and other provinces in central, east, north east thailand.
From Phuket there's only 1 exit, which is sarasin bridge, otherwise must go by plane or boat.
So I'm really happy to move back to pattaya

I’ve only been to Pattaya. Phuket is probably better but far out of the way when I arrive at Bkk airport. So it’s hard to combine. Pattaya isn’t luxurious but it still has literally everything. And so true about the intra city logistics.

I prefer Phuket. But the reason why Phuket is more expensive is that it’s a tourist town. December thru February is high season and the prices go up because off the influx of tourists. Like the island feel and the fact that most people come and go, then you start to notice the locals. Where as Pattaya (though I’ve never been) is said to have more retirees, long term digital nomads, and the like that enjoy the lower cost of living.

Hi Nick, thanx for the input. I've just been traveling one year through Thailand and overall Pattaya is far more better than Phuket. I've stayed one month in Pattaya and one week in Phuket and Phuket is to expensive to get to the beach iwhen you're hotel is in the old city of Phuket. You've to pay atleast 1.000 bath round ticket to get to the old city. Also hotels are pricewice more expensive in Phuket. In Pattaya 15 min. from the beach you've very nice hotels for 500 bath a night. Last but not least it's 1 1/2 hours away from BKK. So in general Pattaya wins. I'm going to buy a few condos in Pattaya at Grand Solaire which will be the most exclusive 67 storage appartment complex in Pattaya. It will be finished in 2025 so when you're in the neigberhood you're welcome to come over. I'm also making TH-cam films, but mainly of Temples, because i love the Thai culture. I've seen moren than 300 temples so i think i'm number one in tte world. Check my TH-cam channel and send me a messga eif you want. TH-cam channel Ro On The Go

Phuket definitely has a better reputation than Pattaya and the natural scenery in Phuket beats Pattaya, better beaches, cleaner water. On all other aspects I prefer Pattaya over Phuket. Pattaya is much more convenient than Phuket, it's a 90-minute car ride and not a trip to the airport, and as you mentioned the Baht bus routes are cheap and take you just about anywhere, there are also motorcycle taxis that will take you anywhere. The price of Phuket is easily 20-30% higher than the rest of Thailand, for rooms, transportation, food, entertainment, really everything.

I agree with most of your comments, I think there is far far more to do in Pattaya, even for families, Pattaya is far cheaper, lots less scammers than phuket and a better range of nightlife.
I don't think you mentioned Jomtien beach, it's nicer than Pattaya and more suitable for families. Accomadation is also much cheaper Pattaya area.

Great video a lot of great information. What do you recommend as the easiest way to live in Thailand for 9 months+?

    • @traveloverthings
      @traveloverthings  ปีที่แล้ว +2

There's a multi-entry tourist visa that, if timed correctly, can last almost 9 months.
60 days on entry + 30 days extension at immigration (fee is 1900 baht)
You would then have to leave and re-enter Thailand, which would give you another 60 days on entry + 30 days extension at immigration..
Before your visa expires, you could do the process once more potentially getting you approximately 9 months.
Perhaps a better option though would be to get an education visa.
You can get that by enrolling in Thai language classes or through certain Muay Thai gyms.

Question for you, im seriously considering making a move to Pattaya ( at least for a while ) i have a passive stable income of 2200 usd a month Im younger and would enjoy some nightlife no doubt. But nothing overboard. Definitely would cook for myself and just chill at the beach or gym most days. Is 2200$ enough to be comfortable with a nicer 1 bedroom condo ? Or should i look for remote working option to double my income? Thanks
