I have been in the firewood business for.50 years. I sell my wood for $50 a face cord. It takes me $30 to process a face cord of wood . That includes cutting, getting it to the wood lot, and delivering. It to the customer. I sell mixed hardwoods. I measure and mark each stick at 16 inches. I advertise on Marketplace.

Walking floor trailers, high dump loaders, etc. Massive investment! Congratulations on your success Matt! Thank you both for the video and the education.
I think it’s great that you and Matt are willing to bring “us” into the operation and educate and explain the what and why and the reasons for pricing. Please keep up the great videos. Would definitely like to see more of Matt’s operations such as the chipper and mulch side.
Adam, that was fascinating and educational. There is a lesson to be learned here. Never let 2 CPAs loose in the same Semi. Seriously, thanks for another great video. Drew
Matt, you are an impressive business man. Great job with the business youve built and being hands on at the same time. That walking floor is a genius design. Great filming like always Adam.
Hey kids! It may start as fooling around with a chainsaw and cutting up a few wind-blown trees for some camping firewood. But before you know it, you've got a woodpile, and then start buying a firewood processor and small skid steer to help move the load. You start dealing to friends and families. And before you know it, you've got a semi, a woodyard and full on business and talking about dealing in cords. It's a drug guys - be careful out there
Thank you @@firewoodguy3016 - i have to say it was the drone shot over your stacked yard of maturing trunks all lined up like matchsticks that made me think "Yeah -while Adam looks like he's reached L10 exp, ⚔he's still got some way to go to reach L15 and beyond. He's playing in a big boy's yard now" 😄
I have watched a ton of firewood channels but the yard in this video is by far the biggest one I have seen so far. This was definitely an interesting video. There are so many different business models and customer bases in selling firewood.
Fascinating video! Matt has such an interesting business he's developed. Love that semi, never knew something like that existed. Would love to see more on this, thanks Adam.
I used to work in a firewood lot and personally moved over 32 cords in one day. That is moving from pile to measuring rack. From rack to pickup. From pickup to wheelbarrow and from wheelbarrow to where the customer wanted it stacked. It was work and it was a good time.
That was different and very entertaining. It was my first time seeing a walking truck bed. I had no idea those existed. I've loaded and unloaded my share of trucks working in the steel industry for eighteen years. Have a great day,be safe and God Bless!!!❤😊
I'd like to know how much ash the kilns generate, and how you handle it and what's done with it. At 30:24, you can really tell how dry that wood is by the sound. Lastly, I'm glad you showed how the walking floor worked, because from the verbal description, I was still unclear. That's really cool how it works.
We used to load firewood into tractors with dump trailers that didn't want to go back to NYC empty. They would bring steel up to the plants upstate, but those trailers weren't that big, we only got about 5 cords on them. We loaded by hand with a hay elevator! Of course that was over 40 years ago.
You hear about technology like this but seeing it in action is just very amazing. I repair hydraulics and I haven’t got a chance to repair one of these units yet
Great video!! Matt is an incredible businessman - so interesting - so organized! His guys all worked so well together loading that truck! I've never seen a tuck like this one - a brilliant engineer designed that!! You did another great job videoing & editing this, Adam! Thanks! God bless y'all & your families!! ♥️🙏♥️👍🌟
What a great operation. Had no idea what went into this, especially at volume - and that walking floor in the semi trailer was really pretty amazing, yet simple in concept. Really neat stuff, thanks for being willing to share it Matt, and thanks for sharing it Adam.
Long time sub here... That's my garage from Matt's commercial, haha! I've bought a couple of his pallets of kiln-dried wood over the years. I have to say, no matter how "seasoned" someone's firewood is, it's a night and day experience starting and burning with kiln-dried wood. Adam, your videos never disappoint, and it's awesome seeing you and Matt collaborate in these videos!
@@firewoodguy3016 what is the moisture level of the wood as it comes out of the kiln and does it go up any after being out of the kiln for say a month or more?
@@HometownAcres I wonder how this would differ between to different locations say one with 10-15% humidity and one with say 50-60-70% humidity during the summer drying season?
That was an awesome video Adam. I’ve been receiving 80 yd. loads of mulch in walking bottom trailers for several years. I actually did a video on it last year. It never gets old watching them work. This is the first time I’ve seen them used for firewood.
The more yall do together the more i am so happy that i found ya Adam. Keep up the great work and the great content. Now asking the math questions as he was trying to merge on the highway was a bit funny
Love that both you guys are Accountants selling firewood. Pretty sweet. Selling wood is much different from monthly and Year End Closing. Enjoyed it. Go Dukes!
Great video Adam and Matt. Neat to see all that goes into a large operation and seeing the whole process. I definitely agree with Matt, seeing all the work and effort that goes into producing a high quality product and service makes all the difference in understanding the true cost of the product and service. Definitely would be neat to see more of Matt’s operation from the log form to the finished products. 👍🏻
My family has been in the trucking industry for many years and I've never seen such a "walking floor" like this. This is a very cool system and really makes un/loading much easier.
Love live floor trailers! That is a serious operation and that guy takes really good care of his equipment.... normally every piece of equipment at a log yard or a junk yard is a hammered piece of junk , his stuff is all neat and tidy and newer just like his yard ! Nice operation
I knew what a walking floor was...but have never seen it in action. Thanks for the "under the trailer" shot to see just how it works. My goal for this winter is 60 cords and now I know that's about 5 semi loads!
Great video! Good interesting conversation in the truck too. Great job boys!!! And that trailer is awesome, never seen anything like that before, very cool!
Fascinating! I love seeing innovation and sweat come together for satisfied customers. It’s capitalism at its finest! God’s Blessings to you, your coworkers and all your families!
Keith industries has been manufacturing walking floor trailers since the mid 1950's. In the 70s and the 80s we used keiths walking for trailers to haul firewood in the California Central valley when we would clear out the almond and walnut orchards. So it is not a new concept in firewood transport. Unload was quick and easy. Keep up the great videos. God bless.
I remember going to a landfill in Mississippi with household garbage using one of them walking beds I had never been in a truck that had one hooked to it till that day and it was something else feeling that floor walk and jar the cab of the truck every time it moves
Hey Adam, very interesting, I have driven many miles and hauled many loads but this is the first time that I have seen a live floor trailer in action. Thanks, for another interesting video.
Although I've seen walking trailers before, never thought about them for firewood before. Makes sense since their used for moving bulk commodities. Good job, and good video- thank you
Interesting video for this Old Jarhead. Glad to be able to see this side of a business. I love learning about new stuff for me. Greetings from the Old Jarhead in WNC.
Very educational and complete video. I had not heard of a walking floor trailer before and now I know what it is. Thanks for sharing another awesome video Adam and Matt.
Hey Adam and Matt, thanks for the great great video. This is a real eye-opener for me. I had no idea the extent of work that you guys have to go through in order to accomplish what you are doing. Everything was educational as could be. I actually did learn a lot, even though I am not in this type of business. I really enjoyed the moving floor on the trailer. That was amazing! Can’t wait to see the next thing you two guys put out. Have a great weekend fellas PS sorry this is so late. I know this came out much earlier in the week. This is what happens when you retire.
Wilkens trailers are made in Stockton, Kansas. I used to pull a high-sided one hauling the hay we processed with a tub grinder to feedyards. The sides are fiberglass coated plywood and are pretty tough. We hauled some wood mulch for a broker who had it railed in, and found out pretty quick how much heavier the mulch is compared to hay.
Adam, enjoyed the video. You brought it up, wish you would have spoken on the tractor a little more! Matt only used the clutch to stop and start, it is not an automatic, he did miss the gear shift twice, I only saw him read the tach twice! Sure he does not drive everyday but quite skilled in the truck operation. My point, his skill range is extremely wide!! Entrepreneur=self employed business owner!!! Thanks again!
Enjoyed watching the one for the wood delivery in the transfer truck. Interesting to hear your friend discuss selling chips GP MDF plant. Mount Jewett PA. Used to go there in the 1990s to the particleboard plant that is no longer running. Thanks for sharing Adam
Hi Matt. Good to see you on Adam's channel. Tom thought your delivery of 12 cords of firewood was neat with the walking floor. You know him, of course. This is your cousin, Diana. We are fans of Adam and you also. Oh by the way, thank you for the water totes. They will become raised beds.
I'm an 81 yo retired mech engineer and it brings tears to my eyes to see the innovation applied to this operation. Hat's off to you all!!

Great educational chat in the cab with insights into business in general, and wood industry in particular.
