Remember going there at start of 1990s
The name the shed was very literal, as the stadium looked like a dump
Amazing how it is today for those who saw it decades ago

A great back drop of the initial years of "The bridge"

Just to add ... I am from Liverpool, I am not a Chelsea supporter but I love the history of football grounds

@@merseydave1a number of Liverpool players of the 70's, Emlyn Hughes for one, used to describe Chelsea as one of the most intimidating atmospheres to play in, which given the greyhound track which distanced the Shed from the pitch, was quite the statement.

Hey mate, thanks for this, a great, informed and well presented video .
I'm old enough to remember the old stadium , especially the huge West terrace.

Thanks @Tom Tom much appreciated glad you enjoyed the video. The old ground was most certainly built for huge crowds. It will be interesting with Stamford Bridge’s redevelopment down the line as well.

That terrace looks massive, probably bigger than the east terrace at Charlton. I remember my dad telling me that he went to a war time cup final at Stamford bridge in 1943, Arsenal v Blackpool, official attendance was quoted as 55k, my dad said that was way off, more like 75k. This is more than believable as Stamford bridge held over 80k back then.

Crystal Palace would have been easier to get to back then than Wembley is now!

You should do a Bradford city old stadium thing. It has lots of history

    What was the dog called?

I honestly don't know, worth more digging: most definitely a stick worth fetching that's for sure. With the reseach on this series I read Simon Inglis' 'Engineering Archie' (an English Heritage, 2005, publication). I've had this book since my Bachelors degree (I did a dissertation on Sport History in North East London). Unfortunately, no name found for the dog but we can with Spot.

@@StadiumHotdogTV i think you could do extended versions of these honestly. I and others would listen and love the detail. Could parlay it into a relationship with top sports journalism in the end. Football club lore is unreal and no channels take a historian's approach

Much appreciated @phemstros. That's exactly the angle I'm going for with starting up this channel. A work in progress and glad you like the content so far. I'll develop this channel to evolve in a past and present style, accumalting the histories of these London clubs as well as making it a useful resource that everyone can always come back to. Thank you for your feedback.
