I was there fella in the shed end we couldn’t quite believe we were beating the great Liverpool. I went in to the west end after with my mates for a pint or two and there a group of Liverpool supporters in the pub and we ended up having a good natured banter session with them. The day is a fond memory for me and the laugh we had with the liverpudlians made it special

The shot of the Chelsea crowds at 7:04 and 8:17 is what I remember proper fans used to do at Stamford Bridge - hold their blue and white scarves aloft and sing. I always take my scarf and raise it when I go. The atmosphere was loud, intimidating, and raucous too. Today? Limp flags and near silence. Miss those days of proper noise and passionate fans.

To put this in context. Liverpool were European Champions and Chelsea had just come back up from the 2nd Division. Liverpool could afford to buy the best Centre forward in Europe - Daleisgh and the best Centre half- Souness. Because Chelsea were skint they were full of people from the youth team. They didn't buy a new player between 1974 and 1978. It makes me laugh that the Scoucers say we brought our recent success.Even when we were "shit" Liverpool could never beat us at Stamford Bridge. When I was 12 I went to Liverpool vs Chelsea at the Bridge at 1982. We were mid table 2nd Division and they again were champions of Europe and we beat them 2-0.

I was there in the Shed we went fuckin mad I went to all the Chelsea home games and quite a few away from 77 till late 80s I have seen some real shit, but I really miss being able to turn up on the day stand in the middle of the Shed and sing and shout with fellow fans and my mates all for a few quid . Great way to release the tension of the week. What a fuckin pity all seaters were made compulsory fuckin ruined football for working class people and destroyed the atmosphere. I appreciate that it's safer now but I used to go with my Grandad when I was younger , I have two sons there's no way I can afford to take them every week, it costs soooo much money I feel guilty cause I loved going with my Granddad but just cant afford it.a real shame the death of working class families day out at the football.

Couldn't agree more !! I used to stand right in the middle of the shed where there was always a great atmosphere. It's time they brought back terracing in my opinion. There's no real atmosphere in all-seater stadiums like it used to be in the late 70's early 80's. All the money that's come into the game has spoilt it for the true fans like us who would travel all over the country and try and outsing the home fans. We used to take over 10,000 away to the grounds that could cope with that ammount of support. Now all you get is a couple of thousand stuck in a corner somewhere with a crap view. It's not a working man's game anymore just a social event for tourists and foreigners who don't mind paying £50 a ticket. Most of them haven't got a clue who's playing who, while the real fans have been priced out of the game. When I first started going it was £2.50 to get in and a season ticket was £50 now it costs that for one match, which can't be right. BRING BACK TERRACING!!!!!!!!!!!

@@SMSJSC your missing the point, look at it again, Clemence was slow to react, but he did eventually get into position to save the shot, but it literally bent like a banana away from his hands into a very marginal slot, between his hands and the the upright post and crossbar, literally a perfect shot.
What your also not taking into consideration was the fact it had unbelievable power and pace in that shot and once it started bending away from clemence, it was moving at such speed he couldn’t react the second time. Please stop criticising clemence, he actually eventually got into the right position, but it bent away from him, give praise where praise is due.
If Walker’s name was walkilino and he had dark hair and olive skin and spoke portuguese, you would be salivating that only a Brazilian could do that sort of thing with a football.

And this was when Victimpool - the scouse gits were European Champs! When the Shed was alive it was a cracking time. Nobody came near us tho a few tried. WHEN we get the stadium situation sorted we need to get all us noisey sods back into one end. We are spread round the ground and have been since we gave 1/2 the Shed to away fans. Still remember the meeting we had to decide what we were going to do/where we were to go. Nobody could agree so we split up and went in different areas. I'm still up in MH upper east side but would be the dogs to have the Shed back in safe standing.

I remember the first time I was hit by a feeling that we were gonna win a game and it was Psychic !!!. This time I was on the tube from Victoria to the Broadway and as usual we stopped at Earls ct for a few mins...as the train was waiting to go I had this overwhelming feeling that we had this in the bag and also it was going to be a big win....Fuck me ! was I right...next time I got one of those was WC final 98 when I got the score right and pulled in £80 notes for a fiver bet.....Never gave Chelsea money after Zola's testimonial...when we lose the Russian the last thing we need is a septic owner....I will follow my team down to the dungeons of the lower leagues with pride...Come on you Chels..Lets start again with a team of kids of all colors who are Londoners who play for the shirt and not the dosh....

1977/78 Season Context: This match was played 25 years BEFORE the financial doping of Chelsea began and 14 years AFTER the financial doping of Liverpool began. Liverpool were in the midst of a rather "plastic" decade-long successful run (backed by the wealthiest boardroom in English football), after winning promotion from Division Two in the mid 1960s.
At this point in time, both clubs boasted the grand total of THREE FA Cups between them! Historic clubs like, say, West Bromwich Albion, had more than that on their own.

    • @johnholmes8178

'decade-long successful run'. Make that two decades. At least. Also, Liverpool were promoted in 1962. Never finished lower than 8th since then. While Chelsea have been relegated twice since then.
