I have a name suggestion! Since you're basing the design on cities like Wellington as well: "Two Dollars Twenty" in the Maori language is "Rua Taara Rua Tekau". Perhaps that's what the natives were calling this spot before colonists arrived and, when they started referring to it, it eventually evolved into "Rutara" or "Rootara". If you don't name this main city Rutara then I suggest you name a town, village, region or island that at least because it's pretty cool! :) Alternatively: Sydney was originally going to be named "New Albion" before it was named after Lord Sydney. So how about naming it "New Albion" or "Albiona" or something?
I’m just now catching up with this series so I don’t know if he decides to go with any of these names or not but these are really great suggestions! Especially love “New Albion”, sounds great and has a great reasoning/history!
Even the grid is honestly looking like a city. I don’t know anything about Australian cities, but I’m pretty convinced. It really shows that you’re super into it, as well.
I think naming cities and areas after the aboriginal language would be a really cool idea. I don't know any aboriginal words but I hope you choose a city name based on that & learn how to pronounce it!

These names look great, but my opinion Kingsford sounds nice, not only off the main airport in Sydney [ Kingsford Smith Int. ] but a name that can even sounds great if it was bizarre version of sydney, Kingsford...
It will be interesting to see what names he chooses - lots of choices just with Australian and New Zealand names. Waverley is a suburb of Sydney, and also a Local Government Area (council) that includes Bondi Beach.
The name of the capital to me seems like it would kinda depend on the colonial history. I know the map is principally inspired by Australia and New Zealand, but the real Oceania was extensively colonized by the French and Dutch too. Maybe the city was founded as Deventer or Haarlem, or maybe Rennes or Toulouse, before being acquired and renamed by the UK (a-la New Amsterdam). I like the sound of something like New Cambridge but if you wanted to reference Wales (as in New South) maybe something like New Wrexham or New Cardiff.
I just finished making my tea and took a piece of homemade pie... I was lookig for something to enjoy the snack with. I entered YT homepage and saw this... Couldn't have been better :)
Definitely has the look and feel of an oceanic city. Somewhere between the grid structure of the US and the chaotic/organic european street layout. If you are looking to incorporate more of a Wellington vibe, maybe checkout the suburbs of Aro Valley as well as Roseneath and Hataitai - narrow winding streets on very steep hills.
At 11:11 you can use node controller to get around that problem. Having node controller also makes to easy to control width of road. You can make them thicker and thinner not just at intersection but throughout the length of road (at nodes). A bit tedious but you can get away with vanilla road or clus's concrete road by making them thinner. Its super easy to learn as well.
I like the name Kaya, which my buddy Google said means hello in the Aboriginal language...easy to say and you could make an awesome logo for the series with it. Excited to see the rest of this series, you're the best!
I just wanna point out that saying "the Aboriginal language" is kinda like saying "the European language". There are as many as 360 distinct Australian Aboriginal languages, of which about 300 are thought to be in the Pama-Nyungan language family. [For reference, to illustrate how much variation there can be across a language family: English, Irish, Spanish, Russian and Hindi are all members of the same language family (Indo-European)]. Please know, I'm not blaming you at all! There are a lot of misconceptions about the native cultures and languages of Australia, and even within our country, education about our pre-European history is pretty bad. I just want to try to help change that, because I think it's important that people understand the diversity of Aboriginal languages and cultures. Sadly, much of Australia's rich ethnolinguistic tapestry has been irretrievably lost already, and much more is in the process of being lost. To me, it would be an awful shame if it were all to be forgotten as well. All of that aside, I think "Kaya" is a great name! It rolls off the tongue nicely. (For the interested, it comes from the Nyungar language, which is spoken in the south-west of Western Australia.)
@@ButzPunk Yup, it's also why I said buddy "google" not my Aboriginal friend (when I looked up words it said a lot of what you did). I think there needs to be a way to pay homage and I won't pretend I'm the one that knows best. Cheers!
In terms of the name of the city, I propose 'Tawhiri' ('Tāwhirimātea'). Maori god of weather, including thunder and lightning, wind, clouds and storms. When his brothers decided to separate his parents, the deity of the sky and the deity of the earth, he stood against them fighting and thus caused weather to change. Now, he is also the reason that storms try to destroy humanity, but hey, he's one of the main gods. Makes sense to have the biggest city named after him.
Damn that map looks good! It's the details, like trees around the base of hills, terrain to a realistic scale, fields that look like agricultural land.
Awesome tactic. I did use it long ago to draw a widely expanded version of São Paulo's Metro and had a lot of fun while doing it. Doing the same thing for C:S will be just as fun and not all as frustrating since I can actually go on and build those things. Thanks!
I've got a LOT of catching up to do for this series but I gotta say, that bridge is AWESOME, especially the way so many lanes fit onto it for cars, peds, and trains.
Aucklander here.. let me know if you have any questions about our city, happy to help. But some good reference points that could be incorporated are Albert Park, The Domain with the Auckland War Memorial Museum, I know you have finished the map but also the west coast beaches - black sand - wild and with surf and 45 minutes from central, Rangitoto - a volcano sitting in the harbour covered in lush forrest, Waiheke Island - another island in the harbour with white sandy beaches, holiday homes, mansions and vineyards. Really diverse. Im sure you will find all those things, and more, as the you look for inspo. Epic concept my man, and I hope you are staying safe from the flooding :)
One thing, I'm a professional architect and just a heads up, large bridges especially over a bay are never flat... they are arched so the highest point can be available to large ships to path under.
Probably not them best for the major city, but a favorite of mine is Topsail. A town and a barrier island named for (supposedly) the pirates who hid in the intercoastal waterway behind the barrier islands and all that could be seen of ships was their top sails. A vacation city that my family has been going to for generations.
This is a very cool idea! i will try this method next time i create a city. On a side note i wouldn't guide my highway placement based on american cities which are famous for being car centered cities and not very walkable, highways work as barriers and tend to split neighboorhoods right in half disrupting urban dynamic and depreciating land around them. Nowadays urbanists figured is best to have arterial high speed roads on the edges of the city while focusing on low speed traffic or even public and pedestrian mobility in the inner city.
Please make a ghetto part of the inner city or in a town filled with run down housing commissions and project towers/estates will definitely add a feeling of open world to your city
That's a good idea. Flemington and North Richmond in Melbourne would be good Australian examples where there are large areas of high rise commission towers.
4:05 It's always weird for me as a brazilian to see the upper class and touristic district being designed to be next to the bay and not the beach. In Brazil such areas always will be next to the beach since it's the most sought after place to live next to, while the suburbs always sprawl away further inland. Even in cities with a bay or river like this map has there's not much added value to the lands next to them. Sure, the oldest parts of our coastal cities do lie in a more protected place (due to obvious reasons) but over the last 50 years the housing development completely shifted towards the beach while the downtown areas became more about office buildings than desirable areas to live in.

With the flinders street station asset if you press alt while the move it tool is enable and 'node' selection is on you can select the outer node of the train station tracks and then delete it. You can still add train paths to the remaining track and it works perfectly
Some great locations I think would be great to pull inspiration from would be Seal Rocks around the Forster region in NSW. It has a lot of farmland too that runs into the ocean and also it has a beautiful lake nearby where highway wraps around it called Myall and Smiths lakes. Also, you must must must have a shopping centre called Fountain Gate!
How About _Aurum Coast_ for the city name? _Aurum_ is latin for gold, alternatively _Aureus_ is also a latin word for gold. -The bridge across needs to have a railway line over it,- there's a load of NSW catenary and signals on the Workshop to complete the look. I'm also _very_ giddy at the fact you're planning to do the Sydney circle.
Great to see how people think differently. I kept the large interchange as it is but widened some of the links and on ramps. Will need to improve some junctions though and maybe a loop back as it doesn't go in all directions
For the city/area names you could go with names based on conservation reserves in Oceania. Like Nullarbor City for the name of the city and the docks being Streaky Bay or Lake Torrens bay. Not only are they easily readable but they pay tribute to conserving habitats and the environment.
I would like to suggest the Highways over Wall for bridges. I have started using them on my build on your map. They look really good for areas like the South West inlet bridge.
I'm working on a few cities that are a mix of Australia and United States. One that I'm working on, which is a Sydney/Los Angeles kind of vibe I'm calling Rothersay (Roth-er-see). My story behind it was that it was the first colonial city of the country, like Sydney. My idea was that King James ordered the colonisation of this area. His birth dukedom was the Duke of Rothersay so that's how I got the name. Sydney was named after Baron Sydney, former Home Secretary who ordered the colonisation of the area. Another name I liked was Shelburne as it sounds very Australian. Those are some ideas that you could use. Look up former British nobles and their Dukedoms and find one you like.
Because you sort of focusing on reasoning for all the highways history, might I suggest old bridge piers in the harbour, or old ferry punts on either side of the harbour because the bridge looks pretty modern and I imagine the city has exited for a lot longer and would’ve had an old bridge/ferry service . This would be similar to how many of Sydney’s duplicated bridges work (Tom uglys, Ryde bridge, iron cove bridge or even the Anzac bridge itself)
18:25 You nee the Touch This mod, It is a game changer as it allow you to select those sections that void out when you use the Ronyx69 Tracks against vanilla track.
if you want a dockyard like Auckland be prepared for the constant nagging in your city to move it out of where it is. Looks great BTW, I feel like you know more about my city that I do and you dont even live here!
I am really glad that in Europe we haven't destroyed all old buildings for massive highways, aldo in my city there has been build a ringroad around the old city center that have destroyed old buildings witch is a shame I think. I really believe in keeping architecture that is before 1960 alive.
two dollars twenty, if you think Sydney is hilly check out Brisbane. It's nothing but hills. I think it would be excellent inspiration for the city itself btw, or maybe the suburbs.
Yarang is Dharug for "Valley". Despite being an island, the city center is between hills. Dharug is one of three clans of Aborigines near Sydney's area. Im not Australian btw
yeah but Byron Bay is a real small town like a days drive from Sydney. Making the capital of an island byron bay feels weird. it is more suited for a beach side very touristy and rich town full of hippies
The thing with Grids in the US is that a lot of our major cities were planned out from the start. They didn't develop naturally like many old world cities.
Hope we get the "Midnight Oil refineries" Or the "Blue Sky mines" ;) Also where I lived (in Derby in the Kimberly) there was a rural town called Halls Creek. However it's horrible so it's called Hell's Crack. Most Aussie thing ever and I think it'd go well in the desert part of this map
Can you make the downtown maybe Singapore based. I know it’s not in the kind of style of the series. But I think a lot of parks and spaced out clusters of tall building would be super cool.
Having an SSD myself (m.2 nvme), can not really recommend this game on an SSD. Loading times improve only slightly, and you'll take up a lot of drive space. Though i play the game without many mods, only traffic realated and a couple of assets.
@@Kerouha yeah I was thinking of getting a harddrive but I like to keep all my games in the same folder and there are alot of games that would benifit from being on an ssd
Fun Fact: The Dan Ryan in Chicago was routed to cutoff Bronzeville, a black neighborhood, from Bridgeport and Canaryville, both primarily Irish neighborhoods.
Yeah nah, driving in the city was impossible as well when they were developing the light rail. For a city name, maybe "Emeraude" (or some kind of derivation of it). It's the old French word for Emerald: makes a reference to Sydney's not immensely flattering nickname of the "Emerald City" and further references Australia's early ties to France. Though, maybe adding like an -a or -ia at the end could make it sound a little cooler lol
With regards to highways, here in Melbourne there was a huge plan in 1969 for a dozen freeways across the city that would have destroyed and divided communities. Only like 4 of them were built but there are the empty remains of the land that was supposed to be used for the roads. It'd be cool to see something like that to really show the history of the city's planning. Here's an example: goo.gl/maps/69qBbr85vGnsrt9R9

If a good city name then my suggestion would be Port Wangara!
2:56 lmfao you showed my city as an example
This is brilliant! I never thought of this! Perfect! Thank you for the tip!
Really liked the Photoshop brainstorming!
Finally this series is about to be great
Your videos are really calming, keep it up
18:25 You nee the Touch This mod, It is a game changer as it allow you to select those sections that void out when you use the Ronyx69 Tracks against vanilla track.
Lookin good! I think Newstead, Brisbane could be some inspiration for that hipster area along the train line / maybe around the harbour?
I used "CSL Map View" mod to export your map into an image to plan my city like this. Much fun!
I joined your Patron and I got to watch the video yesterday.!
"How many assets are you using for this"
two dollars twenty: *Yes*
if you want a dockyard like Auckland be prepared for the constant nagging in your city to move it out of where it is. Looks great BTW, I feel like you know more about my city that I do and you dont even live here!
very excited about this new series, waiting to download this map and make my version of brazil.
Brisbane really a hill-CBD :P
but the most I amazed is the Riverside highway (M3/A3)
Yarang is Dharug for "Valley". Despite being an island, the city center is between hills. Dharug is one of three clans of Aborigines near Sydney's area.
Im not Australian btw
To me, the city looks like it could be some simple, like "Byron Bay" from FH3, but the name Kaya is also a good one
yeah but Byron Bay is a real small town like a days drive from Sydney. Making the capital of an island byron bay feels weird. it is more suited for a beach side very touristy and rich town full of hippies
@@peepeetrain8755 well, the name could be used for a town like that then!
The thing with Grids in the US is that a lot of our major cities were planned out from the start. They didn't develop naturally like many old world cities.
Hope we get the
"Midnight Oil refineries"
Or the "Blue Sky mines" ;)
Also where I lived (in Derby in the Kimberly) there was a rural town called Halls Creek. However it's horrible so it's called Hell's Crack. Most Aussie thing ever and I think it'd go well in the desert part of this map
Just a random idea, having a small naval base in the bay Sydney-like would be awesome!
Can you make the downtown maybe Singapore based. I know it’s not in the kind of style of the series. But I think a lot of parks and spaced out clusters of tall building would be super cool.
Built a very detailed Mexican style city in the desert area. Turned out quite nice.
Thanks for the status update! You got the screenshots anywhere?
Dude, thank you so much for mentioning and calling out ''Redlining''.
Buying a new SSD tomorrow, the first thing I'm gonna do is re-download Cities Skylines and start building on this awesome map!
just move the Steam folder there & done, just follow the step on steam
@@ulysseslee9541 Having more than 3MB of storage remaining would help too lol.
GTA Australia
Cop: You got a license for that mate?
... WASTED
Very surprised to see that your city is very similar to mine, except for that mine looks horrible and I am sure yours will look amazing.
Fun Fact: The Dan Ryan in Chicago was routed to cutoff Bronzeville, a black neighborhood, from Bridgeport and Canaryville, both primarily Irish neighborhoods.
This road layout really reminds me of Brooklyn
Oceania’s Sunday! I love it
Since the city is the capital, make some sort of Parliament House.
That's interesting! Thanks for the link, never knew that!
Belgium highways would be ones with a lot of potholes in them 😂
Me when I'm driving to work: gadang gadang gadang gadang
Me when I'm going on a trip to the Netherlands: brrrrrrrrr
and massive traffic jams :)
That even Buffa can't fix
@@vgrundea52 😂
Would be great to see a variant of Auckland’s Spaghetti Junction with the highways here!
Make sure to have a suburb full of those suburban 60s-70 red brick veneer house that are everywhere is Australia
I'm interested to see it going, I think the city may be too small or too large for the size of the island. I'm really hyped to see what's gonna unfold
This is a great idea, thanks!
Won’t use the bridge as it feels like sydney. But nonchalantly places Melbourne’s flinders street station
