Sanwa M17 and Futaba 7PX and others on the same protocol and base system from their respective manufacturers seem to be the gold standard in speed. See this interesting thread for info - it's aged a bit but the testing is solid: www.rctech.net/forum/radio-el...
Per the video, more testing is needed before we can say the RadioLink FHSS V2.0 implementation is faster or slower than newer versions from other manufacturers. The protocol may be the same, but the software layers/impelmentation method will vary between manufacturers. It isn't a straight comparison based on version alone.

Well. That's quite a lot of useful information. And quite a lot of radio for the money. For my own application, I found the built in FPV functionality most informative. That's a feature I'd really like to take advantage of, one of these days. Does it allow for automatic tracking head control in the controller, do you know?
The pricetag is a big steep, so it won't be in our budget anytime soon. But perhaps in the relatively near future we can save up to get one or two. There's a lot to like in that transmitter. I'm already thinking of ways to use some of that extra programming capability in a crawler.
My go-to flying transmitter is the Turnigy TGY-i10, it has a lot of similar features to this. especially the mixing functions, which I have found to be extremely beneficial. I don't think it has that FPV display input capability, though. I wish it did.

I didn't mention it in the video but it also can be used with a PC via a USB adapter as a game controller.
It's a very well rounded radio. I've used mine quite a lot already!
@@RCTNT good to know about the head control. That's a welcome feature that more radios need to incorporate. I'd like to see that become a more common, more popular part of things like crawling. One of my goals is to set up my TRX4 with a driver seat FPV with head control and full pan/tilt, to get some driver seat scale driving experience.
It's super neat that the RC8X can be used as a game controller. The TGY-i10 can be used that way as well, and is what I usually use for my various flight sims that don't support the Saitek X45 (my preferred HOTAS flightstick). I suspect the DumbOrc X6 can be used that way as well, because it does have a USB port on it, but I've never tried it.
So many things to try, so little time! I'm looking forward to playing with this stuff too. Some day!

Just got my RC8X and like it a lot. I just do simple bashing, but it’s great. Definitely thinking about getting a cool FPV cam to have some fun with.
I try to know what I'm talking about as much as possible before I open my mouth! Always more to learn but yeah, there are a few transmitters here, haha. Glad you're enjoying your RC8X, it's a great radio!

At this price, it is questionnable if you don't go and get a product from Sanwa, Futaba or Spektrum to get the service you can expect with the price you pay. The transmistter offers a lot, but will it last as good as the premium brand I mentionned? However, their cheaper RC6GS and RC4GS can be very good choice.
Build quality seems to be there, for what it's worth. Item durability and longevity isn't in question for this radio, in my estimation. My main concerns were around gyro and latency, though this may be unfounded with the latest firmware updates. Still testing, will report back.
I agree with you .. I like the Controller. I am still wondering why it is SO much more expensive?? Here in Canada the RC6GS (20 models) is about $110 The RC4GS (10 Models) is $80 the RC8X as it is right now will be $450 😳😳For what you get? Not sure it is worth it for the average hobbyist. Still going with my RC4GS and I LOVE IT. Does almost everything I need and holds 10 models. I plan on getting the RC6GS as well in the future. My 2 cents worth. I do like the Little built in screen . It has cool factor!! Nicely done. :)
I think the value is there if you're after this feature set. There are some ripper cheap options these days but for a nicer model, this thing sure does a lot!
I have this controller . I purchased it right at it's release..but I use just basic features cuzz I don't know what alot of it means. No paper back manual kinda bugs to. I feel like I'm lame cuzz I get frustrated and then I stop trying to learn it. I just don't understand how to use so many of its options/features. I wish I could get some help to understand what everything means and does. Thanks for the vid..
It's a comprehensive and searchable online manual. I feel you on not having a paper copy but in this case it kinda makes sense, especially as they're keeping it updated as firmware changes are made.
Don't worry about trying to learn the whole radio. I'd suggest just trying to solve one problem at a time. Want to slow the steering response a little? Look into just that. Or same with gyro, throttle or steering expo, whatever else. Just try to solve one thing at a time. I learn best that way!
Great radio, but 4 channel micro receiver is only capable of pushing 6V. That eliminates a higher rated BEC and getting the full potential from a majority of the aftermarket servos that are able to handle 8.4V. I reached out to Radiolink to see if they could release a 4 channel micro receiver that can handle more volts. Until then, I have to stick with my Flysky GT5 or Furitek Avatar or decase their existing 6 channel. It would also be great to see someone come to market with a 2 channel micro receiver (90% of my rigs only use 2 channels). Would be awesome to have the option!
Fair enough, though you can still run a BEC with the small rx. You just need to make a Y-splitter and ensure you isolate the BEC +ve line from the servo port on the rx. Easy enough to do, and you're separating the +ve line from the esc already on the bigger receivers when using a BEC anyway, so it's only a minor change to what you're already doing.
But if you're after a tiny receiver and you have a GT5, the FS2A should do the job, as the GT5 is an AFHDS 2A radio:

There are a few other sbus receivers that are absolutely tiny, too. Depends on what radio you want to use but the choice is out there. Cheers
Hi I spoke to you before about your 1580 excavator upgrade mine has turning trouble as of today on slewing I was of thinking of replacing the servos on the arm at the same time but I can't find the ones you brought would the 1550 servos fit there's not any upgrades for the 1580 on ebay I have looked today asking for your advice Shaun 🤔
Hi Shaun, this comment maybe should be on the 1580 video so others with the same problem will find the info - and some folks might have an answer for you, too! I'm sorry, but I really don't know about the 1550 servos fitting. Frustratingly I can't find the ones I bought either. It's a bummer, because they worked well. I think the next step I'd take would be to message huina directly and ask them for suggestions. One thing you can say for Chinese companies is that they're often very responsive and helpful, surprisingly so. Worth a try anyway. Sorry you're battling, I hope you get it worked out!

Has anyone figured out how to program both the TRX4 diff locks onto one switch?
You could do this a few ways:
= use a single servo with a double arm (where the spine is in the middle), so actuating it locks and unlocks both cables;
- keep both servos as they are and use mixing on the RC8X to slave the second diff lock channel to the primary, ensuring the signal is reversed in the mix;
- with the original tqi radio, y-split both diff lock servos from the same channel with an in-line signal reverse module on one of the servos.
All of these methods should work.
@@RCTNT Yea i had tried the mixing and it wasnt working but tried again and it is so now seems to be working well.
So far not regretting selling the Futaba 7PXR at all to get this. while ill admit it does feel cheap when holding it compared to the 7PXR... im really, really liking it so far.
@WhatAboutRC I'm glad you've gotten it worked out. The handset feels about like what I'd expect for its price. Not the most premium thing but for the money, yeah, easy to forgive!
So yea, about 2 hours ago i put my 7PXR on eBay with all the receivers, and the protek life battery just because i plan on getting the RC8X. I am so tired of Futaba's BS when it comes to receivers. I have around 40 cars and im not paying $50+ for each receiver.... nope not any more.

It can really add up, yeah.
I've run a lot of my fleet on GT5 radios and the $10 FS-A3 receivers, but the RC8X is a real step up in luxury and config options!
@@RCTNT Wow $10 isnt bad at all.
The fs-a6 isn't a lot more, either, if you want 6 channels instead of 3.
Another great cheapie is the DumboRC X6, but it doesn't have model memory and uses analogue dials. The GT5 let's you bind, name and save individual config for 20 models and it comes with the bs6 (I think that's the model) which has a gyro (Also fully programmable on the radio). Additional units are 40 bucks or so, if you need a gyro. But if not, FS-A3 and FS-A6 for the win!
The RC8X is a lovely step up from that, as is the Flysky Noble NB6, but receiver cost also rises accordingly.
Nice to have all this choice though eh!
