100%. Perfect casting. I believe Harrison Ford insisted he play the younger version of himself after they played father and son in another movie. If only the Solo movie was done in the early 90s.
He did an excellent job..I just wish the opening sequence was better. A little too long, with too many gags that are not some of Spielberg's best work, in an otherwise classic movie.
There was going to be Prequal Indiana Jones movies of Indy in his early 20's where River Phoenix would represent the Indiana Jones past storyline legacy on the big screen.... but when River's died so did that hopeful plan... instead they had to settle on doing a T.V series and T.V films.
A fun fact, it´s when young Indy uses the whip and gets a scar himself in the chin. Harrison Ford, in real life, has a scar in the same place, but in his case was due to a car crash when he was young.
The real dark horse gem in Steven Spielberg's filmography is Empire of the Sun, set in WWII in the far east, starring a very young Christian Bale. He was talented as a kid too. I love that film. No one ever seems to react to it.
Spielberg originally really wanted to direct a James Bond movie, but they never let him. George Lucas came to him and said, "Hey, I got something even better." And told him his idea of Indiana Jones. So, in this movie its kinda a fun full circle moment that he got the original James Bond to play Indys dad.
This has to be one of the best adventure movies of all time. I feel that Connery gets a lot of credit but still not enough for this role. He really pulled of this role and demontrating what a great actor he was (because he had much more range than what ppl thought at the time)
its already ben said but the scar is real. Harrison Ford got into a car accident when he was younger and resulted in that scar. The writers decided to write it into the storyline because it is such a distinct feature.
I used to think that it was odd that he would just turn around and try to get the grail as well like she did but when I was talking with my partner about it and comparing it to some of the things we have learned recently about familial dynamics and behavioral issues stemming from childhood you could interpret that scene as metaphorical in a way. Indy never felt close to his father but he obviously wished and wishes that he could so. From his perspective, his father cared about the grail to the exclusion of even him so when the grail was right there next to him under duress he instinctually tries to get it. Maybe even mix in a little bit of self-entitlement that he thought he could get it when she could not but its way more than that because he desperately wanted to connect with his father and you could even say that his interest in archeology and all these adventures was a manifestation of him trying to connect with the only thing he knew his father loved. Even in the movie the one time he has a chance to reconnect with his dad is over the grail and they are doing it together so it would reinforce that this is how he gets his attention. And when his father finally calls him Indiana, the name he identified with his whole life, it connected with him on a deep emotional level because he was acknowledging him for who he is and not what he could do for him or how he behaved around him and then saying let it go worked because he was only reaching for it in the first place as a way to make his dad proud and hold sacred what he thought his dad cherished. Even when I was young I understood what it meant that he called him Indiana in that moment but what I never knew until recently as an adult was that the motivational drive that probably influenced Indiana's whole life and career was in essence a sub conscious desire to be accepted and loved by his father that he felt he never got during his brains developmental years when he needed it the most.
They could tell the air ship was turning around because the shadows on the table were rotating. This indicated the ship was turning relative to the sun.
Another fun fact it´s that Sean Connery and Harrison Ford (who played the roles as father and son), have only twelve years of difference among them. Sean had 59 here and Harrison 47 (but Sean looks older without hair and with beard).
Spielberg and Lucas got Sean Connery to play Indy’s father because James Bond was the inspiration for Indiana Jones. Sean Connery is the original James Bond.
This is the most fun, for me. A lot of memberberries, some cheesy jokes, but Indiana Jones with a history and known personality playing off of Sean Connery's Jones, Sr. is just wonderful.
According to the Merlin Miniseries, Lancelot had. Son with his first wife Lady Igraine. Their son is Galahad. He was the one that found the Holy Grail according to the Arthur legend.
Leia, the scar is real. Harrison Ford had it for ages. It was written into the script that he got it as a kid because it’s such a distinctive feature of his face.
Yeah Harrison was a carpenter before he started acting. He always would give a fake story on how he had it. He finally told the true story while he was filming The Force Awakens. He said that he was putting a doorway in and the headed been fell and hit him in the chin.
41:00 You’ve got to love how Indy’s whole attitude, right now, is one of curiosity. It’s like he’s thinkin’, “What’s everyone looking at? Are we just admiring the view? I mean, it _is_ a very nice view. Could that be it?”
@MitchClement-il6iq I just like to see people's reaction to them. And there are a few parts of Dial of Destiny that I think are really good even if it's not the best movie.
42:18 I can't believe you actually said, "I did Nazi (not see) that coming." Before this movie, no one knew how perfect an adventuring pair Harrison Ford and Sean Connery would be. After, I can't picture it any other way.
Yeah, Harrison Ford got it in a car crash before he was an actor. Its more fun to imagine that he got it while defending himself against gangsters on a Circus train.
Young Indy is played by the late River Phoenix, the older brother of Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix. Besides the original James Bond films, Sean Connery is also in Highlander, Dragonheart, The Last Knight, The Untouchables, The Rock and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Besides these and the original Star Wars films, Harrison Ford is also in American Graffiti, Blade Runner, Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, Air Force One and The Fugitive. There's also a short lived series called The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles
I don't know why everyone hates Crystal Skull so much because my least favourite is Temple of Doom. I think it's mostly projected Shia hate that has most people picking it apart. I have yet to see Dial of Destiny.
@ronweber1402 agreed, temple of doom is also my least favourite. Still awesome though, that's how good the Indiana Jones movies are. Why it is disliked? A combination of people growing older and having different views on things they used to like as kids, modern filmmaking techniques and Star Wars prequel hate I guess. The only thing I don't like about Skull is the lightning, it is so over-saturated. This is better in the 4K edition.
For most of us there are only 3 Indiana Jones movies and the trilogy ended perfectly with them riding off into the sunset. It was 1938 and the war had not started yet, so the Nazis really weren't the Nazis yet, so Elsa can be forgiven for teaming up with them, especially since she is Austrian.
I remember watching this in theater as a kid and being very confused seeing the other guy in the outfit we usually see Indy wearing. For a brief second I was disappointed because I thought he had been recast, even though I was sure I saw HF in the trailers.
@biguy617 He did a great job and was always good in the roles he did get to do like Stand By Me by some strange co-incidence he and SEAN CONNERY [Who plays Indy's father ] both passed away on Halloween . RIP RP and Sir Sean Connery 🙏

@jerrywalters8885 As well as where his fear of snakes comes from , and of course his famous hat and overall look as you can see the inspiration from the other adventurer Awesome movie from my childhood . And a wonderful reaction from Leia !
conan obrien once asked him about how much the stunts wore on him, he goes i dont do stunts, but i do as much physical work as possible because i want the viewers to see indies face not the back of a stuntmans head
can you guys have Leia reacts to a movie called "ginger snaps" (2000s classic film) I think she would love that movie if she hasn't seen it, I think it fits her aesthetic!
If the knight was 700 years old, wouldn't he have spoken middle English? Yeah I know picky picky picky! (i hate it when critics do that 😁) Great video!
Considering he was a knight, thus being upper/ruling class he would have likely spoken French which is what the monarchy and ruling classes spoke in England at the time. English at that time was a peasant language, which along the way adopted a lot of French. Oddly, Sean Connery (a Scotsman) who we are to believe is River Phoenix and Harrison Ford's father later played a French speaking British king, though in the role he didn't speak French and also had a Scottish accent.
nope they both won't get to live forever...because once the grail went past the great seal, The Grails blessing/gift of living immortality was taken away from Henry Sr and Indy as punishment.

I actually believe Indiana Jones IS in the MCU as they subtly make reference to Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade in Captain America the First Avenger 😉
2:49 yeah but the object he’s talking about is not actually a real life object it’s an object that’s made up for this movie with them adding real life historical figures to its story to make it sound more legit. Although I do think it being across is a great way to foreshadow the rest of the Christian themes in this movie.
Hey Leia, if you stop watching the Indiana Jones movies here, no one will think less of you, as "The Last Crusade" was the original ending to the series and the perfect send off for all those involved. Part 4 was OK, and I didn't bother with 5, as I learned my lessons with Star Wars, sometimes less is more, and ending a series before it goes to the dark side, is probably for the best. As once you see garbage, it can't be unseen, so keep your good memories, and call it a day on Indiana Jones, as there is no better ending than riding off in to the sunset(you've been warned).
Thank God Steven Spielberg didn't release an “improved version” like George Lucas did with the old Star Wars trilogy, where unnecessary CGI effects were added that look ugly today.

They explain that scar all sorts of ways - it was him slipping on a toilet or something in Working Girl... lol

that chin scar IS real. young Harrison started driving before buckling up, was fumbling around for his seatbelt, and rammed into a telephone pole.
