Overkill is probably right up there with Judas Priest as "Best live metal performances." I typically favor studio, live has way too much background noise and technical difficulties, but god damn if Overkill and Priest don't pull it off perfectly.
+Heber Gomez I've seen Judas Priest, and they played with Testament in an arena that was 1/4 full, and though Testament stole the show Priest managed to blow me away in spite of what I'd heard of their live performance. What I gather is that they're very hit or miss, and they'll either be terrible or amazing, but the stage presence of each and every one of them was something to behold in my personal experience. As for Overkill, I hope to get to see them some day. I haven't had the privilege of that moshpit but I get the feeling it's without peer.
My buds and I drank a beer w/ Tim at Sebastiano's in Altoona PA before the show. Sorry to sy he's left the band since, but the new drummer Lipnicki also kicks ass. All tolled, Overkill has no equal.
I would hate to have to play a cover of these guys, the timing as complex, but then you get to the lead and are like, forget it man. His leads are as fast and clean and technical as any out there in metal.
Haha wow, while watching this video i thought to myself "This version is better than the album version" then i scrolled down and noticed that i posted the exact same thing two years ago haha. time fly's.
Speed metal is like thrash. Old Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax, Death Angel, Exodus, Holy Terror, Overkill, Pro-Pain, Kreator, Voivod, Annihilator are all speed/thrash metal. Iron Butterfly and Jefferson Airplane are acid rock. Very different genres.
@m0tl3ysl4y3r yeah man, exactly! says: you don't necessarily have to be a thrash maniac, but a certain appreciation should be at least standard, right?
im glad overkill arent big 4 coz if they had had that kinda popularity they might have sold out like metallica anthrax etc ......metal is best when its underground
@IronPriest31 don't say that. they are fucking awesome, the kings of the underground, fucking granted. but don't ever say they are out of everybody elses league. maybe they didn't sell out, but they did sink into mediocrity in the 90's just as well.
