This is a fantastic "meta evaluation" of why MST3K was so groundbreaking in the 20th century, and a great intro to Joel's Gizmoplx vision for the 21st. Subscribed! (BTW, huge Mike fan, but I have recently come to appreciate Joe's unique take on things while rewatching MST3K on Pluto TV)
Thanks a lot for subscribing! I grew up a Mike fan too, and it took me some time to understand Joel's sense of humor was. Boy is he a unique guy, and I really hope he finds a home for his ambition in the Gizmoplex.
When watching the new MST3K, it shoows the fatal flaw people seem to misunderstand about the show. In the original series theres honestly little making fun of the production or bad acting or things people would obviously see. It was moreso making fun of weird inconsistancies or narrative issues with the film. Rewatch the gamera episodes and theres barely a mention about how bad the suits are, its moreso making fun of the kennies or how traffic accidents are just as horrific as war crimes. It knew the movies were cheap or weird or bad to begin with so the scripts were made to enhance the film, not to nitpick. Theres never a mention of how goofy trumpy looks in the 'pod people' episode, it was more making fun that trumpy was a sexual deviant. The modern one misunderstands the point of MST3K. Its mostly making fun of the film on a technical level, pointing out issues with the budget. The comedy doesn't enhance the viewing. it detracks it.
I agree, loved the show when it originally aired but when it returned on Netflix I wanted to like it too, but to me it didn’t feel the same. Maybe I changed, but it definitely changed. I just couldn’t sit and watch all of it.
I had no idea I was subscribed to you, but I’m glad I did. I’m a massive fan of MST3K, and it sucks now that the show looks incredibly low budget, and has terrible jokes
Ha! Well, however you got here, I'm glad you're subscribed! Yeah, it's strange how "low budget" in 1990 looks better in some ways than "Netflix budget" in 2022. Fewer green screens and more thrift store props, I guess.
I used to watch Rifftrax. I think they could make fun of recent new movies that are bad. I rented Cats and listened to Rifftrax. The jokes were awful considering that they could have had a lot of material to poke at. We also found the jokes very dated. Some of the jokes we had to look up since he talked about old shows.

This was my favorite show when I was a kid. Thank you so much for spotlighting it 🙌🏽

This was brilliantly on point- well done 👍🏻
Thanks a lot!
Another great video
The original Joel era will always be the best
Or movies that should be redone better.

MST3K from the 90's was the funniest. The newer one from the later 2000's not as funny.
Do something innovative? Anime remakes of classic bad scifi films.
How DARE you criticize that thing I like.
Now play Misty for me.

Same here. I don't know what it was. I guess this is petty, but I just couldn't get past he new voices coming out of Crow and Servo.
