Thank you SO much! I came into the Catholic Church late, in my mid-fifties, not through any profound experience. I simply made a decision that I wanted to live my life with faith. It’s been about 7 years since my baptism. I still find the Catholic Church unwelcoming and I’ve yet to make one Catholic friend. It’s been a very lonely journey and, honestly, I’ve given up. I haven’t been to Mass since before COVID (about 3 years). She endured so much and stayed in there. My resolve has been weak, but her talk has inspired me to go back to Mass and to keep trying to connect.

Thank you, Lisa! I am a cradle Catholic and have been very fortunate to have belonged to 3 AMAZING parishes in Canada. I am also a retired Catholic school educator in the province of Alberta, where Catholic education is still publicly funded. Over the course of my career, I have been connected to various different parishes - each of our schools are connected to a parish (some parishes have more than 10 schools) where students attend Mass at least twice per month - and we have had a small handful of adversarial priests. It's heartbreaking, particularly when we're trying to bring our children closer to the Faith. On a hopeful note, we have 10 to 12 priests attend the school for Reconciliation 3 times per year for Grades 4 - 9 students. It's very powerful and I pray that our model of Catholic education is an inspiration to so many who have had negative experiences. I commend you for your authenticity and perseverance and I pray that our Alberta example gives others hope. God bless!

There is always something don’t quite sit right with the spirit of the Holy Scripture. I love being a Catholic as I am taught to be outward focus. That means I focus on the Church as a whole and my family/s is part of the Church. It takes away the division in my heart as a mother.

@@srich7503 Luke 1:48 says about Mary - “From no on all generations will call me blessed”. Have you done so Bruce?
Yes I have Mary is the most blessed woman in all of history.
I also read the scriptures and they give me 20 verses pointing out Mary by name. None of those verses in scripture point to Mary as being anything more than the mother of Jesus her firstborn , mother of her other children by her husband Joseph as recorded in the gospels of Mark and Matthew , and she is the most blessed woman in all of history.
      No BVM
      No Assumption
      No sinless birth
      No intercessory status
No prayers to or asking Mary to do anything
No scripture that claims Mary had power over her son to command Him to do anything
If so why if she has not passed on, if she is not alive?
Eph 2:6 points out God places the spirit of the individual who has been born again in the heavenly realm with Jesus . So Yes Mary is Alive in the heavenly realm with Jesus .
Also, are not the “great a cloud of witnesses” not alive since we are “surrounded by them” in Heb 12:1?
Yes the crowd of witnesses are Alive in the heavenly realm with Jesus
Now that we have established that Mary and all the believers in Christ who have passed on and are now that great crowd of witnesses in the heavenly realm , I would like to ask you to show in scripture any hint of the witnesses in the heavenly realm
      1. being prayed to
      2. asked to do anything
      3. having anything to do with helping the living
      4. conveying any prayers as if they are more righteous than we as believers are?
Lastly Bruce, what makes your interpretation of scripture the correct interpretation among the thousands of others in the world?
I look at scripture and context to decide what scripture says . I am not in dispute with everything the roman Catholic church teaches ,only SOME false doctrines that it promotes. I am also in dispute for SOME false doctrines ,that denominations teach .
Just how much of the scriptures do you read and need interpretation for? All major doctrines are set in stone and minor disputes over tattoo's, hair length , head coverings , are not going to cause loss of salvation which is far more important.

Hi Dawn, even if Catholics are not in the habit of parroting off verses from Scripture, which we kind of do by paraphrasing, I am here speaking for myself, I found that as well intentioned as Bible Evangelical Christians might be, one must ask oneself do I really want to leave the Church Christ founded that has her roots in the Apostles, number one, and number two, do I want to leave the mass with the pinnacle of Her worship in the Eucharist? Besides, there are other factors that I also could not put behind me when being assailed by these well meaning lovers of Christ in His word, Our Lady and St. Joseph or the Pope!! Too much fullness and beauty in devotions, feast days, schools, hospitals, hospices named after Catholic saints and charisms that are called upon to have in their honour, to have left the Church Christ wanted, and He did want His Church to be ONE. Let's not forget the Priesthood, without whom we cannot have the mass or the Eucharist. We must seriously recall the vocation and what men give up, as well as the other ones of monastic life etc.
I also recalled in my foggy way because we don't parrot off stuff as I say, that Christ wept in the Garden of Getsemani tears and sweat of blood, not only for what He would suffer on the cross but that His Church would be ONE. We have the gift of free will and I guess He more than anyone knows that we can choose to stay close to the 'vine' or leave the original vine for another one, and if we are not well versed in the teachings of the Church, can opt for one coated in suave talk and rock n' roll music to draw accolytes. I was having none of it. Does a pastor who wields a bible have the same charism/power/gift as a consecrated priest? I asked myself? No, he can't by virtue of being removed from Apostolic Succession and the laying on of hands...God bless you on your journey.

    • @brucewmclaughlin9072
      @brucewmclaughlin9072 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi Dawn, , one must ask oneself do I really want to leave the Church Christ founded that has her roots in the Apostles,
this is a misconception as there is only one church and to leave roman Catholicism is not leaving the church.
do I want to leave the mass with the pinnacle of Her worship in the Eucharist?
Do I want to re-crucify Christ in the eucharist or to accept that Jesus died once and for all the sins I have done , am doing ,and will do. Knowing I am totally forgiven and that my salvation is complete in Jesus .
Besides, there are other factors that I also could not put behind me when being assailed by these well meaning lovers of Christ in His word, Our Lady and St. Joseph or the Pope!!
being assailed by these well meaning lovers of Christ in His word, Our Lady and St. Joseph or the Pope!!
WhatIi find interesting about this statement is the complete lack of any scripture to form a basis of your belief. Joseph was the father of the other children of the former virgin Mary the mother of Jesus .Matthew and Mark both record the children of Mary by her husband and yet there is not one mention of Mary being the BVM , assumption , being without sin , or of her interceding with the saints , ever recorded in scripture ?
Too much fullness and beauty in devotions, feast days, schools, hospitals, hospices named after Catholic saints and charisms that are called upon to have in their honour, to have left the Church Christ wanted, and He did want His Church to be ONE.
Again no believer is capable of leaving the church, as there is only one church. The believer can leave a denomination or the roman Catholic church to seek the truth that the bible clearly shows ,as God's word to us. 2 Tim 3:15-17
Let's not forget the Priesthood, without whom we cannot have the mass or the Eucharist.
here is something that i would like you to show in scripture where the priesthood is kept from the old covenant and brought into the new. The old testament priesthood would stand in the temple sacrificing animals for redemption of sins by the people and yet in the new testament we have NO Priests but we do have Jesus who has placed Himself as our complete sacrifice for sins ,once and for all. There is no longer any reason to have priests in the new testament times. Jesus fulfilled the law and sat down whereas the priests who stood in the temple were never allowed to sit down showing an incomplete sacrifice for sins in the old covenant.
that His Church would be ONE. We have the gift of free will and I guess He more than anyone knows that we can choose to stay close to the 'vine' or leave the original vine for another one
Whereas I agree that God never wanted division in the church , we have that as any Orthodox / roman Catholic/ denomination clearly shows.
There is only one church and to leave a denomination / orthodox/roman Catholic church is NOT leaving the church ! Eph 2:19-22
, and if we are not well versed in the teachings of the Church,
If we are well versed in the teachings of the church ? what about being well versed in God's word the scriptures that the church is supposed to be holding up as truth to a fallen world? Oh right I forgot , the roman Catholic church tells the world that it has the authority and thus can go beyond scripture for it's truth!
Please read the whole New Testament... you will find no popes, no cathedrals, no Statues, no Marian dogmas, no prayers to dead saints, No Vatican, No wafers, No fancy Robes, No Christian thrones.
Please Follow Jesus and Him Alone.
Does a pastor who wields a bible have the same charism/power/gift as a consecrated priest? I asked myself? No, he can't by virtue of being removed from Apostolic Succession and the laying on of hands...
Does anyone filled with the Spirit have the same power of a roman Catholic priest who teaches what the church says over what the scriptures say? Yes .
1Tim 3:1-15 these are the qualifications of those in authority over us in the church.

There is something off about this lady’s testimony. The phrases “God’s truth” and “Jesus alone” have to be defined by the person using them so the hearer can measure them in light of Church teaching. It is not surprising two or three priests on different occasions told her to knock it off. Which brings up another observation, a lack of Christian humility can make one prideful. It seems others have noted this saying she retains some Evangelical mannerisms.

This lady is obviously very dedicated and sincere, but she is coming across as a dedicated Evangelical.
Her talk could have been presented to, and welcomed by, any group of people of any denomination that promotes Sola Scriptura.
I have been to Bible Classes led by laity and heard some dangerously heretical ideas promoted, and people left those lessons believing that it's permissible to invite non-Catholics, in the spirit of "charity", to receive Holy Communion with us, and that we can pray to the Holy Spirit and request a gift of our choice, healing, preaching, tongues !!!
It's just a matter of inviting Him into our hearts!
Since the organizer of the group was a prominent parishioner, very influential in most of the parish groups, and very charismatic, my objections went nowhere.
But the thing that really disturbs me is the litany of..
    I DECLARE !
    ????
When I read the Holy Bible my response is..

Al H, Interesting comment. Yes, I see what you mean.
I heard her name on a You Tube program mentioned by three Cath men, two are priests. It us called "the Catholic Talk Show." They are trying to be "comics." But they come across as disrespectful by mocking lay people. One of the clergymen is harshly critical of lay people, he was especially putting down lay women speaking or teaching about the Bible, such as the speaker here we are listening to. The moderators have bobble head toys representing Jesus, the pope, Mary, mother T., St. Patrick. It seems irreverent and condescending.
I have not studied Lisa's Bible study. She said 450,000 women have participated. Therefore, there is a need for this. She said those who influenced her are former Evangelicals.
Her Bible study seems to be for younger Catholic married women with young children.
Something like this was/is needed for women. It fills a vacuum. There is more to the Church than Mass alone.
It is very difficult, it is heroic, for a woman to bear and raise 8 children as she has. A woman's children are literally bone of her bone and flesh of her flesh.
As for the "I declares," that might be a Protestant method. However, it seems acceptable. Maybe let's discern what is good and holy. Some religious sisters will present Jeff Cavins Bible study. But other than that, Catholics do not read and study the Epistles the way some Protestants do. There is a huge vacuum in Bible study in the Catholic Church. Priests are not trained to teach the Bible in the same way that Evangelicals embrace the Bible. It seems she performs a vital function and is a bridge between women and the Church. Most women who take her Bible study are younger married Catholic mothers with children. Let's not judge and let's look deeper into the actual material that is taught.

it seemed uncomfortably Sola Scriptura. In the first half of her talk I was disappointed by the many priests and Catholics who did not help her in her journey. But after she learned from faithful Catholics, I am surprised that she did not even mention that the Bible is a Catholic book and that the Church is the ONE TRUE CHURCH. She did not mention the EUCHARIST--GOD's REAL PRESENCE or the beauty of the mass. Whenever she is hurt (which is justified) her thought is ALWAYS to LEAVE the Church. How can you have that thought if you TRULY believe that this is GOD's CHURCH? How can you leave after knowing about the EUCHARIST. I hope that the last and "loving" priest she met truly guided her about the faith and did not only "affirm" her.
I skipped about 10-15 min going to the end because she is talking like a non-Catholic pastor :( I cringed in the I DECLARE part to be honest. I was also hoping she would mention that she now realizes why Catholics love Mary and that the statues are not a form of idolatry. It also made me uncomfortable when she said that we can read the scriptures and have different interpretations for it (paraphrasing here). By the end, based on this talk alone, I don't believe she has truly converted or that she is capable of DEFENDING THE CATHOLIC FAITH--which is the FOCUS of this conference.

@@alhilford2345 To be fair, Franciscan University of Steubenville is probably the most faithful and traditional Catholic educational institution in the world. Practically all the best Catholic faith defenders like Trent Horn, Jeff Cavins, Jason Evert, and a lot more graduated from this school. That said, my comments and observation about this speaker is based solely on this one talk. God bless :)

Jesus was born before the death of Herod in 4BC and there was a strong Christianity before the bible 400 years later, I listen to her and I hear the protestants who used scripture to obey Hitler when their Jewish neighbor tapped on their window, I hear those who used scripture to obey the communists while others spent 25 t\years in the labor camps. The Truth is the Church not an individual's interpretation on scripture when the gun comes up. I will go with the priests on her, We had people who died in Dachau for the church and those who who abandoned their neighbors for scripture. I stick with the church.scripture is 7,957 verses of get out jail words,I run from this protestant.

So true. Why is she so Protestant ? Shooting verses declaring here and there. I have been there done that. It may get you to calm down. But that’s about it. I was not a nominal Christian. I am a full time volunteer as a church worker and pastor with zero income. Solely by faith. I know this road. It gets you no where without the sacraments. Scott Hahn’s books should be able to show her deeper. I am a little disappointed of the no reconciliation of her understanding of Our Lady’s role in her walk.

I admire her dedication and commitment to staying in the Church and in bringing others to the knowledge of Christ.
However, in all her troubles, I didn't hear anything about learning from the saints. In this presentation, at least, it seemed uncomfortably Sola Scriptura.
As someone in the process of becoming an ex Protestant, I too have had difficulties with Authorities.
However, while individual conscience has its place, Catholics must always remember that Scripture comes out of the Church that Christ founded. Personal interpretation must always be guided by the Catechism and Magisterium.
Not saying this applies to her but still, I've seen too many evangelicals come up with conflicting interpretations and insisting they're correct because of a personal relationship with Jesus; or, if challenged, resort to what seems to be a modern gnostic like variation of "my interpretation = my truth".

    • @chata9321

"it seemed uncomfortably Sola Scriptura."-- my thoughts exactly.
I skipped about 10-15 min going to the end because she is talking like a non-Catholic pastor :( I was also hoping she would mention that she now realizes why Catholics love Mary and that the statues are not a form of idolatry.

@Bruce W McLaughlin the Pentecostal Churches pray with emotion and not all prayer needs to be, it can be objective and private without being slayed in the spirit. This is your drawcard. But the Church doesn't need to be so engrossed in the emotions. Private prayer too is not one that gets whipped up by music or persuasive talk of a glib preacher wherein the congregation calls out 'Yeah' or Halleluija' or whatever from the pews. One does not need to respond to a preacher reinforcing his persuasive talk. That is not the mass. For Catholics it is more an objective experience, not subjective. Please stop precising my explanations as though I am your student and you need to correct me. I am Catholic and leave it there please. I am constantly praying for Christian Unity though, as Christ would want.

Typical narrative becomes boring. Catholic church just offers its outmoded traditions, just like the royals in UK, people love traditions. Jesus brought no traditions,he abolished them and his cup of his blood of the new covenant is rejected by traditions. Jesus said same, the traditions of men make the word of God of no value.

How can 2 billion marians take the man made traditions over the very WORD of God. because it easier to just follow without truly seeking the truth. it is easier to go to a priest and ask his forgiveness, its so much sweeter to pray to mary for sins, than a tiring reading of the 66 books of the Bible. Because if you do read the bible, this pagan group are completely against the truth that is thought of by the bible. Their foundational LIE is that peter is the first pope, Jesus himself gave the keys of heaven to peter alone, he is the supreme apostle, the prince over the apostles. That very chapter if you read it did not say exactly that. Instead it clearly speaks of the "rock" as the very Gospel of Christ, not peter. Jesus was speaking to all the apostles not to peter alone. Not a single passage/chapter of the NT that substantiate that peter is supreme. How then can this group seduced 2 billions sold to their marianships? The love for truth is very hard to be accepted to the most evil among hearts, the human heart.
