    Great video, i thought id just add an update to the TATE setup section. The TATE script in the video is probably not the best anymore, i found it's not updated like the update_all script is. So what i do now is i use update_all and i symlink to the organized folders which have TATE in there (there is a folder for clockwise rotate and another for counter clockwise).
    So in /media/fat/ i put a symlink '_Vertical (CW)' -> './_Arcade/_Organized/_4 Video & Inputs/_2 Rotation/_Vertical (CW)'
    You also need to symlink to the cores directory inside the organized folders ie. symlink cores -> /media/fat/_Arcade/cores.
    This is an old video so not sure if anyone is interested but i can put the exact linux commands if someone wants. Once you make the symlinks you can just run update_all as normal to update it.
    As a side question - anyone have any good CRT mister wallpapers for TATE?

  • @shain6946
    @shain6946 ปีที่แล้ว

    With the HDMI being squished with that CRT menu option you could take advantage of multiple .ini files and have a button combo to switch to another .ini in HDMI mode

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Please keep in mind that advice was for people who game on CRT's and only use HDMI for streaming. But you're 100% correct: With an alternate MiSTer.ini file, you could simply load the alt file when you need to use scripts, then go back to the other one when you're done. But you'd loose the custom backgrounds too. So, seems like a lot of extra work for CRT users, but it's absolutely the answer for people who switch between both.

  • @itchyisvegeta
    @itchyisvegeta ปีที่แล้ว

    The only thing that is missing for me with the MISTer is when you turn on the device, it auto boots directly to an arcade game with no indication of boot screens, to mimic an actual arcade board. When that starts happening, I'll probably jump on the MiSTer bandwagon.
    I got my Raspberry Pi 3 doing that now, and it is really freaking cool to see.

    • @RetroRGB

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I believe that comes down to the core. You can rotate the menu any way you'd like, but I've seen some cores have cocktail options and others not. • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      YES! You can set up alternate MiSTer.ini files! Here's how: Configure MiSTer.ini exactly as you like it for the horizontal cab. Then make a copy of it and rename it 'MiSTer_alt_1.ini'. Then change the rotation options in the alt file, as well as anything else you'd like to be exclusive to the TATE CRT.
      Then, after you boot, just hit esc (or the corresponding controller button) and left to enter the menu that shows volume controls. You'll see the option to switch to the alt's. That's it! Suuuuper easy and you can easily switch between them even if it's rotated the wrong way at first.

    Hi Bob, great video! Like your content alot. I have a few questions? I am totally new to this Mister Arcade stuff. I am very interested in purchasing mister arcade pre order. My main concern is I have a brand new Flat CRT 24.8 inch Tri-Sync arcade monitor I had purchased it 9yrs ago for arcade MAME project which i put on hold. It handles 15/24/31 khz sync frequencies. Does the Mister arcade jamma handle tri sync modes? My arcade monitor already has a VGA input to connect to a pc as well. Is this simple to setup to my arcade monitor ? I also have a J-PAC. I was planning on just running Groovy Arcade for easy install setup where it setups everything for you. Is Mister setup easier/ straightforward? I really want to complete my build any help on this
    greatly appreciated. Thanks!

      Hello! If your cab is already waited for standard JAMMA, it’s a bit easier to use MiSTer, since you just plug it in.
      I’ve never had the ability to test 24Khz stuff, but it should work fine with 480p.

      I'd personally start from scratch. So, back up the MAME/HBMame fodlers, run SD Formatter (or something) to completely clear the card, then run the instructions as listed here. It's more work, but less chance of something going wrong. Or just use a spare MicroSD and copy the games over to that.

      Is there a way in MiSTer ini to set settings for all vertical games aside from doing them one by one?
      Is there a way to linedouble rotated vertical games? For example, a 240x320 game being linedoubled to 640p for use in a normal (not-rotated) PC CRT? Currently I have a MiSTer alt ini that uses the scaler at 1600x1200 for rotated vertical games, and my main MiSTer ini uses forced linedoubling (no scaler) for horizontal games.

    • @RetroRGB
      @RetroRGB  ปีที่แล้ว

      Try this - Set up the MiSTer.ini file the exact way you would for a 15KHz CRT, but with the following changes:
      forced_scandoubler=1
      ...then at the bottom, under the [Menu] options, change the video_mode=6
      Please let me know if that works.

    • @kunka592
      @kunka592 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroRGB Thanks for replying. I tried that and it basically just enables normal scandoubling but it seems like cores ignore any rotation settings for the CRT output, so it doesn't allow me to play rotated vertical/tate games on my PC CRT which is not rotated unless I use the VGA scaler.
      Using the VGA scaler, I at least figured out how to make 240x320 look good by setting the resolution in the MiSTer ini to 1280x960, which is effectively 3x scale when rotated, or 4x when not rotated. I'm still trying to figure out if there's a way to make other resolutions like 256x224 (e.g., Gemini Wing) look good when scaled and rotated, but that aspect ratio is 8:7 and I don't know if I can do anything aside from setting it to a high resolution like 1600x1200 and applying a filter to get rid of the shimmering.

    • @RetroRGB

    It's definitely not easier to unlock your cabinet, decouple the coin mech, unhook the panel, open the panel, unhook the front, remove the front, unplug the Jamma connector, remove the PCB board with the Mister on it, carefully push on the MicroSD card which was put in the worst position imaginable for access, take the card, walk with it to your computer, and insert in in a card reader - than it is to FTP or SSH in with a few clicks - especially since you're already at the computer where you downloaded the script or whatever.
