    Time stamps for the sights:
01:34 THE BLIND BEGGAR: This is where Ronnie Kray shot and killed George Cornell.
12:02 178 VALLANCE ROAD: The site of the home of the Kray twins.
13:35 THE REPTON BOXING CLUB: The twin, like many young lads growing up in the East End, were keen boxers, and trained at the Repton Boys Club.
15:00 This is the school the boys attended.
16:50 THE CARPENTERS ARMS: The twins bought this pub in 1967 as a gift for their mother, Violet.
18:30 ST MATTHEW’S CHURCH: The funeral services for both Kray brothers were held here. 1995 for Ronnie, 2000 for Reggie.
22:40 E. PELLICCI: This celebrated “greasy spoon” was a favoured haunt of the Krays. It is still run by the Pellicci family - really lovely people!
29:50 THE ROYAL OAK: This pub is not known to be a regular spot for the Krays but it in both movies about the Krays, “Legend” with Tom Hardy and “The Krays” from 1990.

    Interesting video.
I lived in Vallance Rd from 1963 till 93, firstly opposite Weavers Fields then down the Whitechapel end.
Haven't been back for some time now. Lots of changes, buildings wise.
Noticed what was the Old George pub opposite Rinkoffs.
Used to go Pellicci's occasionally. The Red Church been flat's for many years now.

That was great. I used to work there and the area actually looks a lot better that I remember it! It’s worth knowing that Vallance Road was demolished in the early 70s for redevelopment. The houses were rebuilt and were also remembered. I believe the Kray’s house was nearer the bridge than number 178 is now.

I done this walk today, good route and even had a cup of tea in Cafe on route. Can't believe how Columbia Rd has changed, gone all trendy, was a dump back 10 years ago and Hackney Rd area was also a rough area.

On the corner of Vallance Road and Bethnal Green Road is the Marquis of Cornwallis that the Krays apparently drank in and opposite E Pellicci's is the church that Reg married in

This whole area looks a lot safer than I remember in the past, eg in the '70s when crime was something like three times higher.

    • @RinneOnTheRoad
      @RinneOnTheRoad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I can imagine! Petty crime is still quite common here, especially the annoying phone snatching. But that can be managed with an attentive mindset.

Even in the late 80s it was dodgy! I agree though … looks a lot nicer now.

22:25 see that red Church type building on the left? That’s where Reg married Francis. St James The Great Church but it’s now been converted into homes.
