As a stroke victim I’m always looking for utensils that I can use one handed. Amazon to see what’s available, and TH-cam to see how well they work. If I could use my right hand I would not need those utensils. To give you a sense of what it’s like to be only one handed, try doing everyday tasks with only your left hand.

My thought is that it’s for people who don’t want to get egg goop on the side of their bowl or pan when they break them or if they suffer from a disability that limits their ability to do this in the traditional manner but, other than for the latter, as you said, I don’t really see the expense warranted.

  • @the8thark

James, Try to crack an egg with one hand. These devices make that possible. Sure the average person has zero need for them but for the disabled, these devices are really useful. Because not everyone can crack an egg with one hand. I can but I've practiced that.

Fun fact: A huge chunk of “As seen on TV“ products were designed for the disabled, but because those disabled with “X” condition aren’t that big of a market to sell to, they try to sell it to everyone, because shopaholics will buy anything (and people just love gadgets, for whatever reason).
P.S. Also, for the gadgets that make a clean cut where the “top” of the egg comes off like a hat, I can easily see the shells being used in a craft project of sorts.

I came looking for something for my mom who has arthritis and this was great and informative so was quite surprising to hear him say he did not know why anyone would need these. I figured it might be one of the reasons for the video, but either way great content to see options for those who are differently abled or sometimes one may want to have something that is more accurate than just hitting against the edge of bowl or counter...always mice to have options.

Some people just can't crack eggs well too. I've tried tapping on a counter or edge of a bowl if I have one and could never do it in a satisfactory manner. Its a simple skill I just can't seem to pick up. A couple of taps with the back of a knife though, and I can crack eggs easily enough to sort out the yolk.

Not everyone is good at cracking an egg the normal way. I find it difficult to hit the clean "sweet spot" between the egg not cracking at all and making a mess.
Those devices don't seem to solve that anyway, since they still seem to get egg liquids on themselves (or you), but I'd be curious how the "Crack'em" performs at simply making traditional cracking easier.

I'm not always able to crack an egg perfectly, and as a result I sometimes have to fish out a small piece of shell after it goes in the pan. I would prefer a device that would perfectly do it every time, but none of these seemed to do it efficiently enough to make it more efficient than grabbing the piece of shell out on the occasional imperfect break.

Thanks for the review. Sure they may not be needed in a residential kitchen (handicap aside), but would be a lifesaver for a commercial kitchen that doesn't have room for a volume seperator machine

  • @SpitfiretheCat16
    @SpitfiretheCat16 5 ปีที่แล้ว

I think they're mostly a mess-saver rather than a time-saver. Most people can't crack eggs in one hand, and even then there's always the worry of spilling the white or dropping bits of shell in the bowl. These are supposed to crack eggs cleanly and uniformly to minimize the of risk of mess and 'contamination'. Plus, if anybody has trouble using both hands at once, these could be useful.
The boiled egg crackers are a niche use thing because if you just smash the top with your spoon or something you could get shell in there. Those take the top off neatly so you can dig right in or dip your toast sticks in as desired.

9:57 I just pull a Canadian . I just use the back of a butter knife and just tap it a couple of quick times as if it was being cracked on a pan and I don't get any shells and I get better results. The reason I think they make these devices is because people just don't want to get their hands messy but you have to get your hands messy if you are a real chef. The only real thing that AI can see these devices being used for is for someone that may have a disability that may have limited function? The nice thing about the butter knife is most people already have one of many in the drawer. Keep Crackin.

I don't know if it's the egg or my technique but for some reason, I keep breaking the yolk of probably 1/3-1/2 of the eggs I try to crack. I crack the egg and then the egg doesn't crack all the way so I have to pry it open. Which just results in a mess and a broken yolk.

    Regarding the ProKitchen and Hammer:
If you wanted to make 3 eggs for breakfast, you'd leave them in the carton (as a holder) and crack the tops off of 3 eggs. That way, you could quickly just pick them up and dump them in a bowl. 👍
Still would only save you like 4 seconds total, tho.

Dear Freakin, the camera does not focus immediately when you have approached the objects or boxes that contained them. However this video was useful to me, because I bought on Amazon (and still have not arrived) for me and as a gift to my sister-in-law the metal one, but the hand grip must be more decisive. But you made me laugh at the end of the video when you broke the egg on the edge of the bowl. Good boy! Greetings from Italy.

If you tap it on the counter it works better than the side of the bowl. I have not had eggshell bits in my bowl or skillet since using this method.

I hate cracking eggs, can never do it evenly, can't get the shell to crack, break the yolk almost every time, get shell in it, so would actually try one of these if it wasn't too expensive.

I've just seen this clip after I bought no.4 LOL and yes, it's difficult to crack.
Yolk was broke many times and difficult to clean after using.

"do you really need a device to do that"
I have been learning to crack eggs for 25 years. I'm not suceeding, there's usually a little bit of shell breaking off, which to me is a failure. So yeah if there's something reasonably nice and reliable, which also doesn't waste egg and doesn't throw eggshell into everything, and which doesn't take more than a few seconds to wash by hand, i would buy that for sure.

"I'm just having a hard time seeing the point in this..."
You would if you had sensory or nerve problems with your hands. I do, and it makes a lot of things requiring a good sense of touch difficult. And that is the "point in this" right there.
