  • @sunstripe85
    @sunstripe85 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I use the vidalia every time I make pico de gallo and it works really well. I didn't know there was a later version so I'll have to look into that. It does work with tomatoes you just have to cut them in half or otherwise have it so the skin is against the top and the cut part is against the blades or if you slice it then it doesn't matter because basically you just need the soft part against the blades. But I use it for all of that from the tomatoes to the peppers to the onions and I have tried with cilantro but it doesn't work super well. The only problems I really have with the vidalia is that it will occasionally catch against the top like happened in this video and you have to kind of jiggle it to get it to release and cleaning the little block area can be kind of annoying sometimes however you can put the entire thing in the dishwasher which is freaking awesome. Or at least I do and I'm lazy and I put them on the bottom rack so it's pretty versatile and it holds up to a lot of crap. The Nutri Chopper just looks extremely annoying to me because of the small capacity and the fact that you have to put so much effort in your hands and wrists whereas with the vidalia you can just lean your entire body on it

  • @xStarlicax
    @xStarlicax ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the vidalia chopper and I love it. I use mine for dicing. I do not use it as an everyday gadget, but for large scale cooking, canning and for precise dicing . It works best when using slices . I'm very slow at dicing things up so this totally speeds things up for me. I prep everything into slices, then go to town! You were very gentle with your chopper, I toss my item in and slam the lid down, chuck in the next rinse and repeat, a huge pile is done in no time. I use it most for tomatoes , onions , celery, cukes and peppers.

  • @sandihj
    @sandihj 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I use my Vidalia Chopper all the time. I cut slices (with a knife) the thickness of the cubes in the grid - thicker for the large grid, and thinner for the small. I cut onions, potatoes, green peppers, carrots, avocados. Because I regularly cook for very large groups of people (casseroles for several hundred) I save tons of time and effort, and get perfectly diced vegetables every time. Also, chopping slices reduces the effort to what an old lady like me can comfortably do.

  • @jimmeier547
    @jimmeier547 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great review. The downfall of many of the chopping/slicing units is the amount of pre-cutting required to make the vegetables to fit the units. I recently found one on QVC called the Genius 12-Cup Chopper w/5 Blades and Glass Baker w/Storage Lid. The cutting area is 4" x 4 1/2", so it handles most items with very little prep cutting. I find myself using it often as I had a bad arthritic attack on my right arm that left me with less than half the strength I would normally have (slowly recuperating), as it doesn't require a lot of effort to press. There are a glutton of units available from many sources with varied cutting blades for different shapes and sizes. The Genius line alone has probably had ten or more variations on the unit in different sizes and blade assortments. The one I bought though has been the largest I've seen to date. Though if you are looking for something to dice only, look for an old fashioned potato fry cutter. Not so great for soft veggies, but it will have the best leverage for cutting fries than most any other unit.

      Not if you're doing large quantities. That's when I break out my Vidalia chopper and it cranks out very quickly. For dicing one tomato I just use my chef knife.
      This review was pretty bad because he didn't know how to properly use the Vidalia chopper and it's not even designed to slice. In the future I'd get the newer Vidalia Chopper - Pro Max because it's also much faster to clean and it even has a slicing blade.

    • @kell_checks_in
      @kell_checks_in 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RogerHaeske Exactly. As its name implies, the Vidalia is what I use for onions 90% of the time. If you place food skin/tough side up, it works great, and it's incredibly fast on large quantities. They're not that hard to wash, either. If you put the blade unit in water immediately after using it, stuff won't get stuck to the blades. Then, you just hit it with the sink sprayer.

    I have the Vidalia chopper & I use it to dice a whole onion or a whole bell pepper then I put them in freezer bags so whenever I need some diced onions or peppers for a recipe, it’s all ready to go. There are just 2 in my household so when I get an onion or pepper I never use the entire vegetable & would end up throwing it out because they go bad. Using this has saved me in that respect so I don’t always have to keep buying a whole onion when I only need 1/3 or 1/2 onion. $ saver for me. Also, I do have arthritis in my hands so it has also been helpful that way.

It takes very little effort and comes with that larger storage container. Many people are going to be chopping their vegetables into a bowl or onto a plate. It's fun watching the NutriChopper shoot out everything it cuts, but it's not practical. As other people have mentioned, the fact that you kept pinching your finger on the NutriChopper makes it a loss alone. Also, the Chop Wizard would be great for making salsa. You could chop everything straight into its storage container.

    I've got the vidalia, don't use it too often because it's kind of hard to clean, but it can save time and effort when you need to dice a lot. Tomatoes aren't usually a problem if you halve them first, although some squishing is to be expected (not as bad as yours, however). Also, the less tall you can make the food, the less force it'll take to get it though the blades.

    This is the first video I've ever seen on this channel. It seems obvious that if you were using such a chopper it would be primarily for the uniform shape of the pieces to look beautiful in the end product. Every time I saw a whole piece of a vegetable put in there I cringed! It is obvious you should cut it smaller to make it easier to chop and also have uniform pieces to work with for your end product. This is especially helpful if you are making large amounts of chopped veggies for salads or any type of thing that many people are going see, like a crowd. In other words save your hands when you're cooking for 30 people.
    I found this product from a young man on another TH-cam channel that was making homemade garlic powder. I was planning on using it for dehydrating vegetables.

    for the apple shape and many items in the vidalia, use slices which makes small cubes, ie onions, apples, etc

    I think with both products they picture the slicing process followed by fixing, which they both work for

    I'd love a product review of the newer Vidalia to see if it's worth the money. I have a slap chopper and still use it but won't mind an upgrade to a quieter gadget. Thanks for this comparison video!

    In the commercials they use tricks from the movie industrie. The food is slightly precooked. Not long enough to change the structure but than it is much better to cut, because the fibers are now much softer.
    Invest in 3 or 4 good knifes and you are done. There is a reason why you don't see any chefs with those products in the kitchen.
    Just look, James is quite strong, imagine a Grandma pressing a onion in those toys. :D
    Anyway, nice video. Greetings from Germany. ^^

    I remember my mother having a similar gadget in the 70’s. It was all metal with metal wires. We used it to make French fries out of whole potatoes. Checking eBay it looks like our cutter was similar to the ekco miracle cutter.

    I use the mince/small dice on the Vidalia for onions all the time. I usually quarter the onion -- works easier and faster.

    I can tell you already I have the white one your holding. I bought it at Bath and Beyond a year ago. It can chop everything but tomatoes. Onions I don't have to cry no more.

    Unless I have. a LOT to chop for like potlucks or large get togethers; which is NOT happening this year, I still prefer a good ole fashioned knife 🔪 and cutting board. Honestly you have to chop this stuff before you chop it and then you have to press so hard AND clean the device too. I do like the Vadalia chopper but again, I don’t enjoy having to chop down, cut twice and clean two things. With enough practice, a really great quality sharp knife works better Than any of these devices, imho. Really enjoy your reviews!!!! Well done!

    You have helped me so much with this. I wanted a gadget to slice mushrooms and most of the little slicers bend the very first use and are impossible to clean. That would be my slicing and wedging gadget and the other for dicing. I end buying pre-sliced vegetables and they cost more and go bad faster.

    Personally I would much rather use a knife for all of this. If you use either one of the choppers, you have to dirty up a knife anyway and then clean the chopper afterwards. So you're already up on cleaning, plus you have to prepare everything with a knife in advance so by the time you've done all of that, you could have just cut it all with the knife and been done with it. Not to mention cleaning those blades would be more involved than cleaning a knife anyway. So it's just a whole lot of work for... really no payoff. Other than giving James more content for videos. Not that I'm complaining about that last part at all.

    You should have used the Nicer Slicer Dicer. I have one and I love it. It has slicing, dicing, apple wedges, mandolin, and shredder blades with a large container. That would have been a better comparison.

    I say La Mandoline Swing by De Buyer runs rings around both of these things. About $85,-, though and probably a bit more finicky to clean. There's a demo on TH-cam and, from experience, I know it works as advertised.

    I have had choppers, mandolines, you name it. Except for large quantities of potatoes for chips or souffle, etc (food processor)... I find I can chop and slice most veggies with a cutting board and a good, sharp chef's knife faster, and cleaner than any of those silly gadgets.
    And then you have to clean them up... and find a place to store them.

    If no one else has said it yet... Your comparison between the two choppers wasn't right. Look at the size of the stuff that you cut. If you are going to compare the two products you have to put the same size items in each!!!! The way you have done it would be like comparing apples to oranges.

    I don't much, I don't eat veggies, but I do LOVE those big boxes where you just slap the big plastic lid and everything just drops in the container. I think it was called the Magic Cube, name may vary though cuz the NutriChopper is called NicerDicer here, although it does come with a container for the pieces to drop into.
